Top Three Favorites:
Count/Albert (Gankutsuou) - I like this because it's so dark and twisted and manipulative...and yet past all the ugliness, the Count does honestly care about Albert, and Albert is willing to forgive the Count and accept him as he is. It takes a special kind of love to do that, after all Albert was put through.
Utena/Anthy (Revolutionary Girl Utena) - Also pretty twisted, considering the role Anthy played in the duels and all. Utena could easily have taken advantage of her, just as she was expect to, but she didn't. She really cared and respected Anthy, and Anthy in turn was able to open up and care about Utena too. I love the bittersweetness, just like with Count/Albert.
Oscar/Andre (Rose of Versailles) - I usually can't stand these relationships when they've been friends since they were little kids, but it just works so beautifully here. Andre's just so devoted and patient with Oscar, even when she doesn't really notice it. And in turn, she cares for him so deeply, enough to give her life for him, even if it takes her foreeeeever to come to terms with what she feels for him. I love how they progress from lighthearted friendship to something a lot darker and more powerful.
I like a lot of others, but those are my favorites. ...all of 'em are pretty sad too. Why can't I like happy couples?
