Shishio stared at his reflection in the water.
In his mouth were his newest treats for Alenazsa; another apple and some sweet blades of long grass. He had become quite adept at carrying things without really doing much damage to them.
His eyes were worn about the edges, though still sparkled with as much fire as they had before. The tired, glazed look would vanish whenever he was again with Alenazsa... but sometimes, when she was having a mood... it would return. He knew that the frayed edges would be repaired, must be repaired, upon the arrival of the baskets... and the lessening of Alenazsa's pain.
When she let loose a torrent of angry words at him, he would stand there like a stone. Simply letting them roll off him, waiting for when the anger finally broke and she would dissolve... then comforting her, soothing her with sweet words and kind gestures... and then do it all over again as the cycle began again.
His feelings were... mixed. The joy of loving Alenazsa, the sweet-tinged expectation of the foals, only just barely eclipsed his guilt. He had been the tool that did this to Alenazsa, the weapon. He wanted to protect her from harm, and then he brought her pain....
Shishio shook his head (careful not to let the treats drop) and stepped away from his reflection, heading towards where he knew Alenazsa was. When he crested the small hill and saw her leaning against the tree, a pang resounded within his heart.
He moved quickly, rushing to close the last few feet between them. He nuzzled her gently so as to not harm her sensitive skin, then placed his neck under her own and pushed up gently. His body was by her side, gently propping and lifting.
"I am here for you."
When those words left his mouth, he knew it meant more then at that moment. He was there for her... for life.

Alenazsa smiled, feeling her love so near to her. "Shishio.. I'm fine... just.. tired. It's not exactly easy... trying to sleep... when you're getting kicked every... what... ten minutes?"
Other than her very slight lack of sleep.. sore legs and swollen ankles.. it was true, she was fine. Even better every time Shishio was there.
For a moment, she stood strong. Sure, this took a lot out of her... but... soon, she wouldn't have to worry about the pains inside of her,... they'd only have little foals to worry about... and then, she wouldn't be alone.
Alena just nuzzled him softly, pressing the crown of her nose, softly against his jaw, and his neck, his shoulder, then back up again. For a moment, she only gazed at him, staring into his dark eyes... eyes that were completely opposite of her's, and yet... they were still the same... to a sense.

Another pang in his heart accompanied her words. It was difficult to sleep, because of this miracle.... and Sleep rejuvenated, re-energized, refreshed. It was no wonder that at times Alenazsa was a little emotional; she had to work to sleep!
But... wouldn't all this be worth it, once the foals came?
He scolded himself; it was so easy to say that, when he was not the one who had to bear the pain of being kicked from the inside!
He nuzzled her back, a soft smile touching upon his lips. "If only I were the Sleep Falcon the two-leggers speak of... Then I could bring your sleep to you."

She could only smile, feeling his soft touch. "I have a feeling that... very soon.. I wont have to worry about not being able to sleep..."
As if she had been heard by the Gods above themselves, a very sharp pain rain through her, dragging along around her belly, and after a moment, it faded away.
For that moment afterwards, she had stood, wide-eyed, just, straight forward. "Uhh.. Shishio...?"
Alenazsa side-glanced at him. "I think I just jynxed it all..."
The smile grew on her lips, slowly, and calmly.
She'd be able to get that sleep she deserved... very soon.

And so it was that the love of two Soquili came to exist on the material world.
For the result of their love was no longer simply a growing cell inside Alenazsa's womb, rather now able to be in full sunlight and breathe on it's own. But the little ones were still weak, too fragile to walk about on their own legs... and so the shaman had placed them in basket colored to match their coats, there to await the time when they could emerge.

Shishio nosed the black basket carefully, pushing it a little further under the shaded shelter of the tree. He knew that the little one inside could not get what the two-leggers called a sun-burn while it was inside the protective basket... but on some random chance it might, and that tiny possibility was enough to throw Shishio into a fit of worry.
He turned and trotted back a few inches, the short gait looking quite odd when preformed over such a small stretch of land. He nosed the ivory basket towards the other, placing them side by side.
The stallion stood to the front of the two baskets, gazing at them with the heat of undiluted love in his eyes. They were Alenazsa's children... his children.
One was dark, with a promise of it's mother's regal beauty. It had Shishio's swirls of purple, it's mother's flowers. Perhaps the white would become a gently flowing mane and tail?
The other reminded Shishio more of a union between the two. It seemed to have his coat (white with highlights of lightest purple) but with Alenazsa's curling vines.
They were perfect.

Alenazsa was tired,... very. She was resting, not too far off, actually laying down, ready to fall asleep any second now. She was that tired,... but.. she couldn't fall asleep yet. She was too happy.
Her gaze floated off to her love... and at that moment, she felt the greatest love for him. Shishio... You will be an amazing father... she thought, reluctantly, pushing herself slowly back onto her hooves, back before front.
She slowly strode on over to her love, and she nosed him softly. "Think... Soon, we will be teaching two little ones just how the world works... teaching them about things... that only parents could teach them..." She rambled on a bit, turning to nuzzle Shishio softly once more, looking down at the two baskets. Both of them... really where.. amazing combos of the both of them. They really were...
Where one held a black coat and Alenazsa's swirls, though in Shishio's color... the other held a coat of ivory, tinted with the same, smoky-purple that it's father had. And on top of that ivory coat beautiful vines, and that cute little dream catcher. As far as she was concerned, that white one there was the best combo of the two.
At that moment, if she where some sort of cat, she would've purred. We're parents...

Fast Forward.... Two halves of the same heart were now glowing brighter than ever. The little ones hiding in the baskets had come out.

The smile now on Shishio's face had changed. It held love for Alenazsa, love for their children, and a twinge of the harried almost panicked energy of a new father. The foals were bundles of joy, perfection in every way, the ultimate union of himself and Alenazsa... and yet the foals themselves did not seem to realize that they were so wonderfully divine beings. They acted as all foals would, though the filly was much more... feisty.
Analae was pure spunk. She could find a way to get into mischief in almost any situation. Shishio knew that as she grew it would become harder and harder to find kind words to speak when his daughter ended up on some high cliff, wondering how high she'd have to jump to reach the next ledge... or swimming down some raging stream towards a waterfall... or... Shishio shook his head, dismissing those unwanted notions. He'd deal with such things when they came.
His son...
Was it not every stallion's dream? To have a son?
Konu in all ways his sister's polar opposite. He was intelligent, sure to grow into a great thinker. He had the patience for staring at something for hours just to find out how it works, or why it does the things it does. He adored his parents, and would do anything they asked... although not without questioning their reasons for asking, how best to go about completing the task without taking up too much time, and why it had to be him to do it and not Analae. He still had his moments of hyperactivity that were all too common in a foal, but on the whole he was a calm being.
Shishio trotted over to where Alenazsa stood watching their children play. "Can you believe it?"
At times, this all seemed to be a pleasant dream... Shishio didn't want to wake up.

Konu shot a glance over at his parents, then quickly looked away. They would start looking at each other with their hearts in their eyes soon... nuzzling... generally being lovey-dovey. Not that Konu minded, precisely... just that he still didn't quite understand it all.
His blood-red gaze landed on Analae. "... Mother and Dad are being mushy again..." he rolled his eyes.

Alenazsa's gaze just lingered over their children,... their miracles... two.... completely different beings. She loved this... loved the complete opposite personalities the two shared... They were both quite different from their parents... And it made everything wonderful. They weren't a family with everything in common, that liked all the same things, did all the same things, etc... they liked different things, and yet, all loved each other the same.
"Believe what,... the fact that we have children, and are a family? That our children are so different?" She smiled. There were many things she "Couldn't believe" at the moment.
Too many things for her to even speak of, at the moment.
Analae had managed to ignore her parents, for a time, until of course her brother decided to mention them again.
"Yeah, yeah... Get used to it... they're a very -mushy- couple..." she couldn't help but to grin, fluttering her eyes off to the side, rolling them slightly in the process.
She'd never be like her parents, she thought. Would never be mushy and lovey-dovey like them.

Shishio looked away from the foals and gazed fondly at Alenazsa. He loved her as much as on that first night, which had not been so long ago... How had they managed to be so blessed? They had found each other, and a scant amount of time later had children to love. How could they be so lucky?
"... that life seems so perfect." He truly could not think of anything that would better the moments of his days. If he had not been still drawing breaths, he would have thought he had died and gone to heaven.
... if there was such a thing...
Konu wrinkled his nose at Analae. "... correct..." He sighed, then glanced quickly back at their parents. "Looks like they'll be there for awhile..." it was a subtle hint, a telepathic message that said 'i'm game...' for whatever it was that Analae could think of to do.
Konu could think of many things, but none that Analae would agree to.

Alenazsa just smiled, a no-worded reply. She pressed her nose softly against the under of his neck, just, nuzzling him. "At this moment, it really is, so perfect..." She murmured.
Analae's gaze rested on the forms of their parents, and she only groaned a bit. "Race? Swim? Something to keep us occupied for awhile?" She suggested, pearly gaze falling on that of her brother's.

Shishio's eyes were warm, his heart swimming in their depths. Oh, how he prayed that this would not all turn out to be some blessed dream... no, it could not be. How could he have ever dreamed something this wonderful?
He rested his neck upon Alenazsa's neck, though still held his own weight so as not to burden her. He used only enough pressure to let her know he was there. He wasn't going anywhere.
"... Wouldn't it be wonderful if it could always be this way?"
Konu grinned, pleased that his sister had not missed his subtle clue. She always had something for them to do, even if it might lead to them getting in trouble. "Race to some body of water, THEN swim?" He suggested, eyes bright.
