"You'd be surprised how complex they can get," Genevieve said with a trace of ruefulness in her voice. She recalled high school calculus with a hint of a shudder. She had grasped all the concepts, but more symbols which looked like scribbles and squiggles had been given meaning than she could ever have imagined existed. And none of the meanings were nice, simple ones either.

"But you don't have to worry about it for now, though you're doing very well with the material we're covering at the moment."

Dragul listened to Finch with wide eyes. As far as she knew, Genevieve did not follow fads. Or, if she did, Dragul had never noticed the tendency. Genevieve was rarely excited about anything, and those things she did get excited about, she hadn't noticed a tendency to get over them.

"Can you do yo-yo tricks?" Dragul asked. She had no desire to try to learn to do anything with a yo-yo, but she wouldn't be averse to seeing others do things with one, if the things were interesting to watch.

"I would?" Raeli asked with a blank look on his face. He soon cracked into a smile and chuckled a little. "You're making me wish I never wanted to learn. I suppose I don't have to learn everything. Just the basics and perhaps expand a little? I'm pretty sure I wont need to use all of it. Especially when Finch has lived his entire life without it. He couldn't count past five." he said going off into a kind of chain-of-thought rant. To be honest he was finding just how dull maths could be and also how frightening. Of course he wasn't going to admit that... yet...

Finch shook his head and flicked the yo-yo down and back up again. "I never found a reason to learn the tricks. Even if they're entertaining, people who learn the tricks have a lot of time to waste which often means they're lonely. I, for one, am definitely not lonely. Although I s'pose I do have a lot of time to waste until I get a job." He explained flicking his eyes back to the goblin corsea again.

Genevieve realized her error, having taken Raeli's words as earnest truth, rather than the good-natured teasing it probably was, and hastily endeavored to correct it, mostly forgetting the rest of what Raeli said in his ramblings.

"Maths aren't really that bad," she said. "I mean, if you learn them in the usual order and just progress at a natural pace they're hardly worth worrying about."

Dragul smiled a happy, toothy smile at Finch's words. He sounded a great deal like Genevieve, who was always decrying how people wasted time. And money. And everything else. Genevieve was not in favor of wastefulness.

"What kind of job? Genevieve had a job, but then she got beaten up and they fired her."

Dragul didn't understand the specifics and the social dynamics behind Genevieve's dismissal, she only knew the facts, and so that was how it seemed to her. It was the truth, but over-simplified. Of course, Genevieve tended to oversimplify it in the other direction, making no effort to shirk any of the blame for the incident.

Raeli smiled and nodded. "If you say so." He replied deciding not to mention he wasn't being serious when he commented. He didn't want to make her feel embarrassed or anything. It was probably a fault on his half anyway.
"So have you had enough of teaching for today, or would you like to keep going. I don't mind either way." He asked looking down at his notes. There were a few pages of them, but he couldn't really say whether it was enough.

"Well... a job that suits me? I really don't know. I've only had one or two odd jobs so I could pay for rent on hotel rooms... I don't think anyone would really want to employ me. The application form would be pretty blank." Finch said remembering the look on the last guys face when he answered the question. No references. No education. No one address. No idea what his age is. Finch was going to have a tough time finding an employer.
As if suddenly realising what Dragul said, Finch frowned and titled his head to the left. "Genevieve got beaten up? Are you sure that's right?" He asked looking back at Raeli's tutor for a split second. He didn't want to make the mistake of believing the goblin word for word. Maybe she misunderstood or worded it wrong.

"She was taking one of those weird heavy envelopes to the bank for her old job and some bad men attacked her. I couldn't do anything to help. I was just an undera, and I was too scared."

It shamed Dragul to admit that, but it had to be said, if she was to be truthful. She did not remember that the envelope had been stolen during the attack. It had not been her top priority at the time. That had been trying to protect Genevieve, and she had failed miserably at it.

Genevieve glanced at Raeli. They had been at this for some time. Her head was starting to ache. Explaining things was more difficult than she remembered. Or maybe it was that she hadn't had anything to do with math since she graduated from high school, except for calculating bills at the diner. It could be either one.

"I think we've covered a great deal. Now would be a fine time to call an end to the lesson. Can I interest you in food? We have spaghetti, ravioli, and Italian wedding soup." She addressed this question to the room in general.

"I see. There are a lot of bad people out there. You really need to be careful, especially if you're on your way to the bank." He didn't need the full details to understand what Dragul was talking about. "It's not really fair that she lost her job. I hope she gets a better one this time 'round." he commented watching the yo-yo move up and down the string.

Raeli nodded and stretched his arms out in front of him. "What is... rav... ravioli and Italian wedding soup?" He asked not having the slightest clue what the last two were. He didn't really eat a large range of foods. It was clear to him he wasn't even close to understanding everything yet.

"Sure sounds tempting. I haven't had ravioli in quite a while." Finch replied with a smile.
"You haven't even eaten in quite a while. It's been like a week or something since you last ate anything." Raeli replied being quite serious. he couldn't help but complain, finding it quite uncomfortable eating in front of someone who wasn't. "Will you eat something tonight, please? You make me feel uneasy when you don't." The pink creature half begged knowing very well that the word 'tempting' meant it was unlikely he was going to accept.
"Alright, alright. If you insist." Finch replied with a roll of his eyes, forgetting about Genevieve for a split second.
"If you're up to it, then we'll have something, thank you. Anything is fine." The vampire said with a friendly smile towards the woman.

Genevieve glanced at Finch. From his slight build, she could almost believe that he hadn't eaten for a week. She was no German mama, but she did take a certain pleasure in feeding people.

"Ravioli is a kind of pasta, stuffed with potatoes and cheese, in this case, though there are also meat raviolis, but I don't like those. Italian wedding soup is a soup with penne pasta and spinich and some other stuff thrown in. It's good," Genevieve explained.

Dragul nodded, agreeing with Finch, and also with Genevieve's pronouncement. She was actually more fond of the containers that these foods came from before they were prepared, but she could be polite enough to eat with Genevieve. She was very interested in being polite.
