Aphismet

Hilarious Receiver

PostPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 8:09 am

Aphismet and Rivener walked into the fairgrounds, wearing very contrasting espressions. Aphismet was smiling brightly, and Rivener looked positively sour. Munchies, tucked safely under Aphi's head bandanna, was sleeping soundly for the moment, a lock of Aphi's hair tighly clamped in her little maw.

Aphi was excited! He was going to be judging a food contest, and just the fact that his opinion was respected enough was a great compliment! He wondered if he would be able to do a good job... And besides, tasting all the food that people would make! How fun! He had even donned his favorite yellow apron just for the occasion! This was going to be a great day!

Rivener, for his part, had been guilt-tripped into working a refreshment booth. He sneered, remembering how well this booth-working thing had gone last time... He didn't want to be stuck serving drinks to a bunch of strangers who will stare, ask questions, fawn over his looks, try to touch him... The Raevan shuddered.

"Ah, there's Isi!" Aphismet said, waving at his little brother who had left the house early so that he could set up. "And Eiry too!" He didn't want Isi to think he was keeping an eye on him, so Aph didn't go closer, heading instead to the food contest's booth. "Well Riv, this is where I'll be if you need me. I think your booth is over there," he added, pointing. He gave his Frei a stern look. "Please don't be rude to people, ok? This is for the Lab, after all."

Rivener sighed and rolled his eyes. "I know, I know! You told me like a million times already." He floated away from his guardian, heading for the booths at the other side of the park street.

It was easy to find the refreshments, as a large panel with a smoothie was taped to the top of it. He was startled to find that his booth was only HALF a booth, the other half being used for Ice Cream and other treats... Rivener entered his own booth and wondered for a moment who'd be tending the Ice Cream, because he for damn sure wasn't going to do both.

Rivener grimaced, hoping it wouldn't be that blond-curled girly Raevan girl, Melisande. Anyone but her. Please, god.

Niksia was taking a long walk on the delightfully sunny day, she pondered to herself if she was spending more time out of her home than in it lately. Her little pets, cause of pain and suffering to many a careless postman, were keeping watch of the house in their newly water cooled beds. For want of a better word. She had recently bought a new outfit, though the black was still unwilling to release its grip on her wardrobe. And even in the warm summer sun she continued to wear her favorite red scarf, cloaking the lower half of her face as always.

Glancing up to work out exactly where she had wandered off to, pushing long red waves of hair from her face, Niksia spotted the poster proclaiming a summer festival for Lab 305. That lab, she recalled the party and the recent destruction of the lab itself. Maybe she could find out in her usual subtle manner, much like a brick to one's face , if there were any favors needed as a little help went a long way.

What was it that made her feel so charitable lately?

Not dwelling on her reasoning for it, nor the passing thought about her own levels of charity, Niksia headed to the park and the festival to see what was going on.

It all certainly looked good, if still a little quiet for the time being. Various booths and decorations reminded her of the Valentine's festival she'd been around for, though hopefully Niksia would be around more this time. Was it wrong to drown a phone? Wandering the stalls, gloved hands clasped behind her back, she took the time to see what was on offer, before it got too busy to find out.

Josh’s eyes flicked upwards from a bright pink flier towards the multicolored garlands and streamers waving gaudily in the slight summer breeze. He had to admit that the Lab had a particular way of decorating for these events… and it usually involved a lot of paper goods. Josh hastily shoved the paper away into the large parcel of his blindingly red board shorts.

Josh had found out about this event while flipping through the local newspaper. A highlighter pink flier dropped casually onto the table while he was thumbing through the day’s comics. It stated in bold black print: “Lab 305 is hosting a charity event. Participation and donations are much appreciated!” Then it proceeded to list the address and directions to the facility. The boy had been in shock when he first saw the paper. The last time he had heard about the Lab it was because it had been on the local news. Something about a mass explosion and the former building being reduce to a pile of rubble. Josh weighed his options and decided a trip to the Lab wouldn’t be too bad. He made sure to mark the day on his calendar.

Today was the aforementioned day and Josh proceeded into the pulsing heart of the festival. His auburn eyes scanned energetically over every stall and stand. The Lab never seemed to lack variety in their events! From what the boy could make out through the abundant decorations they had a good number of contests at this event. One booth in particular caught his eye. It was a long row of tables with an delightful floral print plastered across the table cloth. The large sign above it read: “SUMMER COOK OFF!” Josh didn't consider himself the finest cook, but he had to admit his mom had taught him the proper way around a skillet and spatula. He wandered over curiously wanting more information on this contest.

Keirro walked casually into the event. Keirro had spent hours to make herself look as fabulous as possible. Keirro pulled off her glamorous look without making it seem as difficult as it actually was. Her hair had been styled that morning and the young woman her makeup done by a good friend in the salon business.

why the fuss?

Keirro was determined not to look like the worn-down guardian of a feral lion child. Keirro gave a flirty glance at the men she passed by, she looked good and she knew it.

The feral child was known by the name Ranis. He was the polar opposite of Keirro. His wardrobe was filthy, in spite of Keirro's effort to doll him up to look like a gentle man. Still, his usual hostile nature towards strangers was replaced with curiousity as he investigated the sights and sounds of the carnival around him.
Something smelled delicious and the bright colors were pleasing to the toddler's eyes. The usually feral child was kept on a leash and harness, usually as a precaution to keep him from biting strangers. Today, it would be used to keep him from wandering off.

It was another disgusting day. The sun was bright, which would have glinted off her golden scales in scintilating colors had she not been hiding in her human form. Yet she still wore gold via bikini and various jewlery.

Her draconic tattoo wiggled across her body as she moved barefoot across the way. And by and by she came across another one of these "Lab events". She stopped curiously as she noticed the trickle of people wandering bemusedly and others who clearly worked to stage this... whatever this was. Her thoughts groped for the word.

Yes: Festival. Belately she remembered how they used to be. She slipped her wetshoes on shook her bright hair back and entered the area.

She noticed Aphismet bustling around a table and went over to investigate. "Summer cook off" Hmph. What is that person going to cook? She also noticed Josh.

"I have a question, don't mind my asking," Revanica smiled easily, "But care to explain this Summer Cook Off?" Revanica's golden eyes looked to either of the two for an explanation.

"LIL, TY!" Alex hollared playfully as she finally made her way towards the designated grounds. "Where the heck are those two?"

The lithe Italian woman bustled her way cheerfully through the festival grounds, her arms wrapped around a large white bag that was pressed to her rather bare body. The tan female was wearing a simple white bikini top that was spattered in blue, with a equally blue sarong tied around her hips. The outfit revealed some of her scars, although most of them had aged enough that they were almost the color of her skin; a slender, jagged scar ran the length of her rib cage on the right side, while another small one was just above her left hip. There was also a thin one on her back, just below her shoulder blade. Black hair was pulled up into her normal work-do, complete with a demon-wing clip to add to her already peacock-tailesque splay. Her flip flops clacked against her feet as she walked, green eyes glancing around wearily to look for the children that she had given her word she'd watch over. While they may be working, she was fully intending to have a little fun with her charges.

Arriving at her designated booth, she put the bag down, reaching into it before snatching her hand back and jumping a little. The woman carefully peered into it, her confusion giving way to a wry smile. "Lorenzo, you dolt, get out of there! No wonder it was so heavy!" She reached in with both hands and pulled out the limp Gwee, who was making quite a show of panting. "It's not that hot, ya big baby. Go lay down in the shade." She put him down and set about pulling items out of the bag, namely the charms that she was supposed to be 'selling.' When she finished, she put the bag under the table, although it didn't seem as though it were empty. Alex grinned, quite pleased that she was going to be able to help with the Lab that she had somehow got entangled with, rather than just being a supporter.

Placing her hands on her hips, she shot the male Gwee a sidelong glance, murmuring, "Don't you be a lump on my table, Zoe. I have work to do." The small dragon opened his mouth as though he would protest, but no sound came out. Instead, he opted to slide of the table and crawl under a near by tree, not at all pleased by the warmth, even though it wasn't really hot even by Gwee standards. He just hadn't wanted to be left alone at home, and was even less happy about not being the center of attention. Sneaking to the festival with his human was the best he could do, as he settled in the shade to watch the proceedings.

Josh gave a slight jump at the woman who walked up next to him so suddenly. He gave her a side-ways glance and felt a blush creep onto his cheeks. The boy understood it was summer, but he had yet to see anyone blatantly flaunt around in a gilded bikini… ever. Josh also found his eyes trailing along the dragon tattoo blazing across her body. Josh felt his curiosity spike as he examined the intricacies of the pattern. His gaze finally shot up and met her face were he immediately noticed her prominent red horns and golden eyes. Obviously she wasn’t human. That was besides the point though, Josh noticed the opening for conversation and snapped it up ravenously. “Hello there, are you going to participate in the cook off as well?”

Revanica smiled a slow smile as the human had taken in her body. After his ending at the top she pulled on the horns. They were fake, but they certainly gave the look of quite the 'hot' feeling for the summer. She could have made them real, but it wasn't worth the effort to do so. Her eyes soaked in the admiration.

"Mm, I might," she noted in her low throaty voice, "I just need to know what it's about. I mean... is there something in particular? Perhaps is everything all summer inspired? Or does it have to all be cold? Fresh?"

Her anklets bangled and she adjusted her right armband carelessly. "And you?"

Josh could see the pleased look defining her features, apparently she was a woman who enjoyed being gawked at. The boy gave a few nods as he listened to the woman answer then oppose a question of her own. Josh’s hand briskly met the delicate brown locks of his hair as he flipped it nonchalantly in thought. His own bracelet gave off a sharp metalic clicking as the beads hit one another. This contest would be fun to enter if characters such as this person would be competing beside him. Josh nodded approvingly in her direction, “I suppose I was planning to enter, but I need some information as well.”

Josh scanned over the booth and his efforts were only rewarded with the sight of a bustling man behind the counter. He was probably too busy to help them for now. Josh heard the crinkling of paper in the breeze and looked down to find a few orange handouts which disclosed information about the contest. He gingerly plucked two from the stack and placed one in the awaiting woman’s hands, “These ought to help.”

She grinned. Oh, my she hadn't noticed something as simple as that? Perhaps he distracted her more than she thought. She peered at the flyer, giving it the barest of glances. She would have to think of something exotic. But she wasn't a cook.

In fact she'd rather have raw things, but humans were squeamish about that, and also eating thier own flesh, so no. Half of her recipies were on the outs. Had to blend, not let anyone figure her out. They'd be after her blood, eyes, talons, heart and any other body parts too, and unfortunetly she could regenerate as long as her head wasn't cut off or she was dunked into natural running water. Couldn't enter churches either. That was sad. Her eyes had been narrowed as she thought intently, but quickly her face cleared and a bright smile replaced the pressed 'thinking-line' that was her mouth.

"I don't suppose you'd, perhaps have any ideas? Brain storm together perhaps?" Revanica suggested silkily.

Josh’s thoughtful gestures nearly mimicked the woman next to him. His eyes narrowed as they became enveloped in the orange sheet set before them. Every second the flicked to a new part of the document ready to partake in the words there. Josh quickly sopped up all the needed information. His features returned to a smug “trademark” grin placed squarely onto his face with bright questioning eyes overlaying the smile. “I wouldn’t mind that at all! I was thinking of a desert or perhaps a salad of some sort,” he chided then held out his hand to her, “I’m Josh by the way. May I ask what your name is?”
PostPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 2:09 pm

She licked her lips before completing the unfathomable gesture. Why did these humans 'shake hands'? Why extend a limb to someone who could potentially rake it to shreds or snap it off? Humans never made sense.

"Ah, of course, I am Revanica," she nodded, "And perhaps we can find a seat? A Pick-nick table?" She grinned a little more. Ah, some words still formed strange in her mouth, that is a new one that she would have to work on. At least she barely hissed out her 'S', 'TH' 'C' sounds. She gentured off somewhere. Hopefully there would be an area to eat as well as sit. Revanica was getting hungry. The vendors seemed to be mostly open too. It was hot out. Dreadful.

She started to wander, making sure that Josh was in tow.

Sam browsed the booths, finding it incredibly boring. Most of the booths weren't even being run yet and there was only a slow trickle of people filling up the place. It certainly wasn't as packed and moving as the first festival he had visited. He looked for somewhere to sit down, he had been walking for a while before entering the festival due to one non-working motorcycle.

He headed for some tables and just like when he was walking on the street, he got distracted. This time another arriving booth worked sparked his interest and he watched as the scantily clad lady started setting up a shop of some sort. However unlike his fated encounter with the pole, Sam turned his eyes away from the booth just in time to see the profile of the well shaped woman he was about to run into.

"Eep," Sam squeaked as he stopped just in time to keep from crashing headlong into the golden haired woman. " Eh, excuse me," Sam said as he started to maneuver around her. He noticed she had a boy in tow. Sam assumed it must be her boyfriend or some other sort of acquaintance.

A perfectly manicured hand lifted to shade those cool gray eyes from the glare of the sun as she looked upwards, "It's going to be another hot one..."

Luckily, Ebony thought well enough to bring a bikini and shorts along with her on her short trip to Barton. As it would happen, the person she was suppose to meet for some business was not going to show up it seemed, but Ebony wasn't the kind of person to let one bad thing ruin an otherwise nice trip. Besides, she could use a bit of a vacation.

Some very colorful flyers and posters had caught her eye while she'd been out for a bit of sight seeing and fresh air. It seemed some type of lab was holding a festival of sorts and who was she to pass up such an opportunity.

Upon entering the park it was plain to see that there wasn't much up yet, supposing that the festival had just gotten underway. A bit of a sigh escaped those pale pink lips as she pulled out her sunglasses, the sun bothering her way too much then and began to wander around to what was up and running then.

"Hello," She said in her throaty voice, her golden eyes flashed with a slight surprise in which they lingered on Sam's ears, "Excuse me." A smile played about her lips as she passed and sat at the nearest picnic table.

Oh, another elf-creature? Hrmm, she thrummed to herself. She'd met all sorts. A fair few saw her actual form. Why? She didn't know. Perhaps it was because they were all wishy-washy tree huggers. This one seemed to have embraced technology. Hopefully he didn't have that uncanny sight. She also had to avoid other demons, no hiding from them in all her golden scaled glory.

But yeah, when was she ever going to see them? Demons were a rarity. At least she hoped. Oh the problems of a modern soulless dragon. She was going to eventually get back at the Prince of Demons... after she was tired of her existance, since it was suicide.
