OliviaFalconer Hey, Fairgrass, I managed to ask our teen librarian what standards she uses. She said that basically she gets whatever's popular (i.e., what teens have been asking her for). She does try to buy books that are rated for teens (I know some manga come rated like video games), but it's mostly her discretion. I still have to find the adult librarian who buys graphic novels. (Scheduling at work is crazy some days.) Thank you. whee
I was at my library today, and I wanted to ask about their adult graphic novels policy (assuming they have one) out of curiosity, but time was too tight. I'm really interested now, though.

My library's pretty nice. We have a fair selection of everything. Thank god the librarians know me well enough by now to let me check out whatever I want, even if I have a fine. Because my fines get big. (Record was $25.) But I still want to make my own library/book store with lots of open spaces, wall-sized windows, too many books to count, and couches, chairs, lounges, and even a bed or two to read on. It would make me feel more at home. (I read books in the bookstore; I was reading Eclipse in Borders the other day. Got to chapter three or four.)

My library - Well, the only libraries I see around here is the national library. It's quite easy to search for stuff - there are computers around the library to allow us to do so. ^^ We can reserve books that are borrowed out - but for a price. XD

I don't really like libraries. I'm one of those people who has to keep a book once she's read it. There's only a few librarys near my town anyways, two of which are a half hour drive.

.__. We have a really tiny crappy library in our town.
I've been looking for On the Road by Jack Kerouac. For whatever reason, the bookstores I've been to go "WE COULD ORDER IT FOR YOU!?" (I think that's what's going to end up happening). But I decided to try my luck at a few libraries. The one in our town doesn't have it because it's "too liberal and disliked." I really hate the library in our town. Well, I hate the people in our town. If they see a book they don't like they all riot until the library goes " biggrin OK WE'LL THROW IT OUT!" Ugh.
So then I went to a bigger library and they didn't have it either xD I was so confused. I thought On the Road was popular...

Augh! You're so right! I only have one public library as well, and the only library in my city that carries the best flippin' series in the world is my school library, they didn't have them at my last school, or the jr. high. I seriously doubt they have it at the high school too, 'cause it's more a pre-teen, teenager kinda book. Though, my public library is pretty big. Three stories, which means it's a floor shorter than Mall of America.

I'm not a big fan of libraries, partially because I've never been to a good one. The one in my town is rubbish except for the gigantic picture book section. When I got to university, I was estatic- the library here is HUGE...but it's only a bunch of records and really old tomes that are only annotated lists for things. Very good for research and that sort, but not so good for when I want something to sit down and read. It's the second hand book store for me!

I have an okay library unfortuately they lost about 70,000 for this upcoming year so I don't know what changes will happen. I usually went there to rent movies and find different series to read. I've lost track of the number of series I've started from getting one book there. I still go to used bookstores and other bookstores. In fact between Borders and a nearby Barnes and Noble to that place I spent $150 last weekend smile Sadly to say, the next 2 weekends is rent money time sad but I still have my books to read smile

I live in Michigan, and if the state adminstration doesn't have a budget in place by the end of the week, the government shuts down. It won't impact us at a local level immediately, but the state helps fund all the co-ops that make interloan so easy, plus my library's co-op hosts our shared catalog (we can see what other libraries have!).

I work at my town's library and I know exactly how you feel. Most all the books that I want to read I have to order, and if another library doesn't have it I feel disappointed. My library has some mangas, but it's a pitiful selection, which is also depressing... stare

I'm sort of happy and depressed at the same time right now. My library is going to get bigger, which is probably a good thing (they'll have a coffee area!), but it'll be closed for four months or more. That makes me sad. Four months with no internet and only the thirty books in my bedroom. So sad...

Awwwww thats always rubbish when you want a book that they don't have.
My library is quite good its only about a 20 minute walk yay! and if they dont have a book then they'll order it in for me from another library the only problem is is because im over 16 they charge me which is annoying but i understand i have to pay but i tend to buy a lot of books now so then i know theyll definately be here for me to read hehe
