That would be completely slaughtering an amazing tale...
I can imagine it now. Dracula takes some petite village girl up to the tower, tries to make her feel sorry for him, then Dracula eventually convinces her to stake him because the "pain and guilt" is too much to live with. Then Van Helsing walks in...*dun dun dun*

Anne Rice...what happened to her as a child? Every book she writes is the same, the same depressed vampires falling hopelessly in love with humans who could be their great-great-grandkids for all we know, who try and fail to commit suicide because of their emotional problems and revalations invloving god. She lost her "origionality" with the angsty vampire by the second or third book.

And even though its 19th century england, the girl uses modern American terms and slang and everyone miraculously understands what she means.

Anne Rice: two words... SELL OUT! she hit on a market that sells and she catered to it since, she's in it purely for the money.

Better yet, the soundtrack for the film is comprised of nu-metal songs. gonk

As have the vast majority of young-adult fiction authors, really.

Oh and her love is between Dracula (who was never ever called Vlad) and an attractive human... probably a prince or a stable boy with a noble heart.

Good point. I should write my own vampire action story and see how it goes. biggrin

(Neither was the original Count Dracula, if I'm not mistaken - Stoker never made the connection clear in his novel) Oooh, the love triangle 4laugh - what better way to rake in the teeny dollars?

I've already gone ten pages, myself wink (not an action vampire novel, but a vampire novel minus the pointless angst, romance, and bisexuality, nonetheless)... now if only I didn't procrastinate so much gonk crying

(I think its implied, its logical and if vampirism is a curse from god, also aids in the set up of the white wolf universe.) What better way to rake in the teeny dollars you ask? How about on the front cover, Drac looks like Gerard Way before he got his hair cut.

And my story pissing everyone off, cause I'm writing a kind of Underworld setup (vampies vs wolfies) but only my characters are actually witty and don't wear conspicuously leather outfits, HUZZAH vampires actually trying to hide the fact they are vampires. The greatest bit is, I'm not declaring either side as good or evil to throw in some moral ambiguity.

Of course, by any classical interpretation, both vampires and werewolves are evil.

And why werewolves are lumped with vampires in so many vampire stories of today, I have not a damn clue.

Who wants to live forever, to see those you love and care about grow old, weak and eventually die, whilst you remain eternally young... who would want that I ask you?

I'm not quite sure why, either. From what I've read in history and folklore, witches are supposed to be the natural enemies of werewolves, not vampires. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Most people only see the positives of immortality, because the fear of death is so prevalent amongst the human race. That's part of the reason why vampires have been villified as unnatural and made glamorous by envy and admiration.

the reason that vampires are such a goth thing is because they invoke a certain fascination with death. vampires are dead, and yet undead, and they keep their pseudo life by draining the life giving blood from mortals. so one can assume that these are the reasons that they invoke this fascination with death which makes them so beloved and so Gothic.

Oh and her love is between Dracula (who was never ever called Vlad) ...

Hang on, the character wasn't called Vlad but the real guy who the character seemed to be based off was.

I became infatuated with vampires after I read the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. I’ve read a lot of fiction about them sense then and I have to say… I only like them because of the unknown factor. If I actually believed they were real I would not want to meet one and I would not want them to be near me; not because they are portrayed as evil but because I know for a fact I’d be stupid enough to insult one.

I think the vampire subculture is a little…boring, actually.

And, concerning vampires being gothic… I’d say that’s entirely a matter of opinion. I personally believe that they could be just as subjected to labels as we are and therefore can be placed strictly in the gothic category.

Yeah but its widely accepted (though never mentioned) that Dracula was Vlad who was cursed by god for desecrating a church.

He totally ******** up that church.

That's a bit of a harsh punishment after all the good stuff Dracula did for god. What a jerk! Won't even let him vent his anger that his lady-fan killed herself! Poor guy.

Gods actually fairly vicious, I mean this is a guy who basically set Lucifer up for the fall, Wiped out nearly all human life because he wasn't happy with the way it had gone, and when god basically told Caine a blood sacrifice was required because anything grown from the ground of Nod was tainted, so Caine sacrificed the dearest thing to him, his own brother Abel as God decreed it and God cursed Caine for that.

So yeah... harsh punishments is what god does.

Now now, don't say that, it means I don't exist, which means a good chunk of gaia has been talking to a non-entity. biggrin

Yes I think of myself as a god.
