Russ B Takuya Kanbara Russ B Takuya Kanbara Russ B Takuya Kanbara Russ B Takuya Kanbara Our BD was conducting, I thought I heard the bell, and started to put my instrument away, then he started yelling at me, then one of my friends hit me and I woke up(during band). Anyway, point of the story is that we were playing Pomp And Circumstance, and I was picturing myself with a loaded sniper picking off seniors to speed up the process. Needless to say, I can't play that song with a straight face anymore. rofl Ah the Pomp. I strongly dislike that song... I myself take everything up the octave to mess with the song. Reckless, but funny. Mr. Lenig (BD) looks at me funny, and I keep going. I usually drop the last note too. xd What you should do is swap your part with the percussion part. Man was my BD mad... twisted xd Last year, I had the whole trumpet section playing it in swing. xd Mr Lenig almost chucked his baton at me. sweatdrop lol. Next year try samba. rofl Or Bossa Nova. xd Maybe even rock, anyone know how to play Pomp on guitar? xd I could probably learn it when I get my Warlock back from the shop. Messed up something on the fretboard and the humbuckers aren't picking up right. gonk Hey, at least you have a Warlock, I've got a cruddy OC Choppers guitar(it works okay, but Warlocks are way cooler).

Another idea: We were playing "The Planets", and (this one REALLY pissed off Spillman [our BD]) the trumpets took flashing lights and stuck them into their bells, the woodwinds picked up a bunch of glowsticks, and I conveniently flipped off the lights...next thing I know, a baton is flying at me from the other end of the room.

Everyone else was playing the section and all the sudden you hear in MM's voice, "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONGING TO US!"

Today at Summer Band, Mr. Cady (Guest BD) had everyone make name tags and place them on the stands. His said "Bryan" so I said Bryan in the most retarded voice possible. Best part was he said it back the same way. Then his exact words were this, "Russ, I want you to repeat after me...Do...You...Want...Fries...With...That?" xd
Worst part is, I was laughing so hard I missed 3/4 of the Armed Forces Salute.
As I was leaving, Mr Lenig (My school BD) was leaving and I yelled to him "Chadworth" in the same voice, and he turned around and asked me if I wanted a ride to McDonalds for work. xd

I think the weirdest thing was when we were playing the James Bond theme for Jazz Band and I thought about our Band Director (a "larger" women) being a Bond girl. It was actually more disturbing than it was funny.

At our winter concert, back when I was a wee freshman, my friend (who is a tenor player) and I (who was on flute at the time) were attempting to communicate across the band by making faces and mouthing words. At one point the steel drum band came on, so I turned my attention to that for a little while. When I turned back, my friend was doing this weird little dance in time to the music. I lost it. It was SO hard to laugh silently, especially since I had tears running down my face, too.
To this day, we cannot make it through a concert without him dancing to the steel drums.
Also, every time we play "Hey Baby," he sings it either really off-key or in a high, squeaky voice. It's hilarious. That's become our song because we're always dancing and acting like idiots during it.

I always get bored about eight-or-so times through the big repeat section in Pomp & Circumstance... I'll never forget my first year... The other Tuba player & I felt like doing something different, so we messed with the rhythm a bit while we were playing (yes, at the actual graduation). The Tubas, naturally, are supposed to have all boring quarter-notes, but we started playing all kinds of stuff - we were syncopating crap, playing crazy eighth-notes - all with the correct notes, of course. razz Last year, I just started to play up a few octaves; I wasn't feeling as creative...
I like figuring the other instruments' parts out for songs, on the Tuba... I can play the melodies for Hey, Baby & I Want Candy on the Tuba, and I can pretty much improv the Trumpet solo from Candy... I loves mah Tuba...

We were sightreading "Don't Feed the Drummers" once just for fun since our band director decided to let us off easy and give us something simple to see how far we've progressed in the last year. During the drum solo I was thinking about the drummers standing in a cage and people throwing peanuts at them.

There's a part in the "Danse Bacchanale" that sounds like belly-dancing music, and at our spring concert, the entire second row(who weren't playing at the time) stood up and started belly dancing. It was hilarious, but man, did we get an earful from our BD the next school day... rofl
