Notos nodded in reply to all of Khan's questions. A flicker of a smirk even showed itself when Khan had commented on his humbleness, or lack thereof. Good enough to you, am I, Khan? He laughed inside. Perhaps that would do for a friendship between the two of them. "You are, how should I say... my first friend." He looked to the stars - or whatever he could make of the sky through the treetops - and smiled.
"And I see... we must be two of a kind, at least for the time being," Notos continued, chuckling, "Except for that fact that I may well be the more handsome of us both, dare I say?" He winked.
At last, Notos stopped as he noticed that the two were a mere several feet away from a cave opening. "We are here at last, Khan." He stomped weakly on the ground a couple of times tentatively. "Do you think anything is inside? Hmm," he contemplated, mostly to himself. But if there was any living thing within the cave, surely it wouldn't mind sharing the enclosure with the two... And if it was anything dangerous, he was well protected with Khan, he supposed. If anything went wrong, flight would be the last alternative which he never preferred. Cowardice never was good in Notos's world.
"But I suppose it is the only thing we have, if we are to acquire decent sleep tonight. In we go, then?" he said with an additional yawn concluding his last words.

Friend? Notos was his first friend too, actually. The stallion he had met before, they had no mutual like for each other, and the unicorn was perhaps flirty, maybe acquaintances but he couldn't call her a friend, after how their conversation ended. It was on the tip of his tongue to say a reply, but he kept his mouth shut. Better to keep quiet than let Noto's ego become more inflated. He grinned at the thought.
"Perhaps we are, for now." He said easily, before he swerved around to meet Noto's gaze. Giving him a short glance, as to assess him, he replied, "Hmm. I'll reserve opinion on that." His mouth curved into a wry grin in return to his wink.
He had a brief moment of surprise, that they had actually found something, before his glance, adverted to the cave now, sniffed the air, checking for signs of anything. Nothing, stood out, unless you counted a musty cave smell. No doubt, Notos was checking for the same thing, judging from his actions.
"I suppose we've come to the same conclusion." He said, feeling tired by the moment. Now that it was known that they had found a place to sleep, it seemed that the fatigue from the fews finally settled in. He noticed the yawn coming from Notos, and said a bit tiredly, "Lets go in then. I dont know about you, but I feel as dead as well, the dead."

"I see..." Notos paused before leading the way into the cave. "Dead as the dead?" he repeated. "Well, if you do end up being that way someday, I will make sure that the memory of your name will be honored as a friend of mine."
He said the last part perhaps too solemnly, but it could have simply been the wave of night lethargy hitting him. He motioned for Khan towards a spot in the cave that had less jagged rocks and pebbles than the other parts, and began to clear some of the excess dirt away. He flapped once quickly and harshly with his wings, and the gust blew most of the debris off to the side. From the spot, the two would also be able to see if anything came in at the mouth of the cave, and would have enough time to plan retaliation if it was a predator. The night was almost perfect.
"Come now, perhaps you would like to stay close to me in case you are frightened by nighttime crawlers," Notos teased. He nodded to Khan that he was done with his part on cleaning their space, and laid down quietly. For a fleeting moment, he looked at Khan and smiled to himself. He would feel secure tonight, sleeping with this stranger... And with that, he lowered his head to the ground and closed his eyes.

"Lets hope, that it doesnt happen in the first place." Khan said nodding off. He wasnt sure whether to take Notos seriously or not, but preferred the latter option, as his brain was much too tired to think.
Yawning, as Notos flapped his wings, his muddled mind registered that wings were indeed a useful advantage, no doubt much more than regular horses. But now wasnt the time to ponder, as he walked over to a cleared spot, but a distance away from Notos. Notos had chosen a good spot, but for different reasons, Khan thought privately. The cool night air was able to reach into the depths of the cave, where they were, anyways, and gave a comfortable place to sleep.
Feeling his legs give way, he leaned to one side of the wall, in order to make himself confortable as well as with the saddle, and letting his head drop to the ground, he replied a bit drowsily, "Who do you think your talking about? Yourself?" But his word fell on deaf ears, as he realized that Notos was asleep already, and he gave a smile, before following after Notos, and his eyes closed, almost immediately falling asleep.

The morning ray seeped in through the cave, dark as it was on its own. A bright beam had reached the resting eyes of Notos, and he stirred in response. The day was still very young, but the beginning trilling of avians had already drifted within the confines of the cave.
Finally, an eye flickered open.
Another black steed with something odd on its back was lying nearby... Ah, yes, it was Khan, the kind male whom Notos had taken refuse with last night. He was still dreaming away, no doubt by the look on his face. Of course, he must not have been used to waking to a glorious new day filled with limitless possibilities to show off ones own glory.
In one smooth move, Notos quickly got up as quietly as he could and gazed down at the form that was Khan. He would be fine by himself for now, with or without wings. It was not in Notos's nature to stay any longer.
He sped up when he left his spot, knowing that his hooves pounding against the cave floor would echo against the hollow space, raising the possibility of Khan awaking to the noise. Then, he was at the mouth of the cave, and the morning light blinded him for a moment before his eyes adjusted. He felt a wave of wind brush past his face, and then he knew it was time -- with a great swing, Notos lifted off into the air, vanishing from sight from the cave.
And he thought to himself... May we cross paths again, my friend...

Feeling blinded, Khan stirred for a few moments, certainly not used to the morning rays that infiltrated the cave. His body wanted to sleep longer, but his mind was no longer asleep, but awake. He wasn't a lazy person by nature, but last night had been .. been what? Khan's mind was drowsy, as if a fog, had settled upon it, before he cleared his head, shaking himself to be awake.
Ah. last night, he had been with Notos. Letting his gaze search the cave, it settled upon a clear spot, obvious that one had been sleeping there. Vague footprints showed that Notos had left him behind. Grimacing, he grumbled, "Could've given me a warning, why not?" but he wasn't surprised. Something had told him, that they wouldn't have a heart warming goodbye or something of the sorts. Shivering, that it'd be completely out of Noto's character to do that, he was glad that Notos had left him the way he did. A feeling of loneliness crept upon him, but he shook it off, as he stood up, wiping the dust off himself, dust that had settled upon him in the night.
"To a new day, and a new adventure." He said outloud to himself, letting his mouth curve into a grin, as he walked out of the cave, and let his words fall upon the wind, "May we meet again, later, Notos.. my friend."
