Lady Diandriel Loriand of the Emerald Wood crept into the village of Crossroads with her hood hiding her elvish features. Moments before she had left her beloved moon colored mare on the outskirts of town. She stange mare seemed to draw unwanted attention, as did Diandriel's pointed ears. Lately a band of rouge youngsters from her village had begun harassing some of the mortal folk, and as such many were untrustful of the immortal race.
The day before she had rode through the woods in a rush, taking the unknown paths to escape. She sighed. She had thought to renturn home for a visit, perhaps to spend some time with her younger brother, but too soon her stepfather had discovered her presence and demanded she serve him at court. Diandriel would rather flee her beloved home again then serve that senile old man.
A raspy coughjing voice from the side of the road broke into her thoughts and she turned her head to the side. A young yet clearly unwell man sat at the roads edge, his equally young wife and a small child behind him.
"Please Milady" he rasps "I beg for aid to feed my family!"
Sympathy fills Diandriel's liquid green eyes and she digs in one of the many pouches hanging from her belt. From it she draws a ruby about the size of her thumbnail. The beggers eyes widen greedily at the sight of it. She crouches in front of him, holding the ruby in her flat palm.
"Keep this to yourself and spend it carefully. If used right, it could feed your family for a year at the least" she smiles at his thanks and chuckles slightly at the irony when he stated that the blessings of the Elements were with her.
After that Diandriel was feeling more weary and desperate for a place to rest her feet. She winds her way expertly through the maze of a town soon reaching a fair sized pub with an equally fair stable. She smiles at the sight. The Spirit Den was a favorite place for the elven folk to come when the visisted Crossroads. Taharl the barekeep always treated her with respect without drawing un-needed attention to her status. She enters and smiles warmly to Taharl and without being asked he brings her a honyed wine as she settles on a stool, drawing off her hood. She takes a sip and sighs, going back to her deep thought of home.

Tenar's fingers slid around the cool rusted iron. There was a key across the way, which was too far to reach. "Great!" Tenar cried, "how in the Water God's name am I suppose to get out of he-- DUH, maybe there is a spell in the book!" Fumbling, he search his pocket for the book and finally found it in his hidden jacket pocket. The pages were frail and yellow, some of the pages missing corners of edges, but the words were never harmed.

Tenar's dry hands flicked through the pages till he came to a rather rough spell to make out. Especially sense it was in the old language and had chicken scratch notes to the side. He had never tried it before, and didn't know what it would do, seeing as he hadn't finished the translation, he just had the spell done (eventually, according to the book, he wouldn't need to say spells to actually do magic).

He began following the directions, which were barley readable. It didn't take too long, and when everything was done, his body felt awkward. His limbs felt light and his mind wet and airy. Suddenly, he was mist and seeping through the jail, coming out the other side where his body reformed. Tenar wasn't sure if this is what was suppose to happen, or even the purpose of the spell, but it worked.

Suddenly, to his shock, he noticed the spell book still in the cell along with with his clothes. Embarrassed and flabbergasted he gobbled up the key on the wall and opened the cell. He threw back on his clothes and grabbed th book and left. It was night, so no one would notice him slipping out.

Tenar went rushing through the night, his companion the river next to him. By the time dawn was breaking free, he had just come to a forest. The trees weren't too close together, meaning it would be fairly easy to traverse. He continued along the river, knowing that it would lead him to some city. When his feet wouldn't take him any farther he laid down to rest.

After about an hour of the sun Diandriel stood, thanks Taharl with a nod and askling him if her regular room was ready. He nodded and she headed up the stairs, stopping and opening a door at the end of the hall with a key from one of her pouches. Diandriel always came here after a visist home and she likes to stay a few days to collect her thoughts before leaving to roam the Elemental Lands. As such, she liked to know she would have a place to stay. This room was permantly owned by her and the only people with keys were herself and Laharl.
It was not an overly grand room, a simple oak bed sat against the back wall, a large window against the far wall, a green cushioned window seat at its base. It was fashioned roughly after the rooms of the Palace in the Emerald Wood with fine gold and green touches to the heavy oak furniture.
Diandriel walked to the bed and lay her travelling pack on it. She kept her cloak, belt, pouches and dagger on hand, though she regretfully lay her bow and full quiver on the bed as well. It would not go over well if a villager suspected her of being up to trouble. After she cheks to ensure everything is in order she sits down for a moment and closes her eyes, resting for a very brief time as was the way of the elves.

As night oozed into the day Tenar awoke. He was groggy and wet, but nothing too bad. It seems that the stream had rose about a foot, maybe more. Suddenly an idea struck. On the otherside of the river, covered in brush, was an oak boat. It would fit nicely in this engorged river. Tenar was already wet, so he didn't think we would make it much worse by wading over. When he got to the other side he was cold and a little agitated, but nothing worse.

It took some struggling to coerce the boat out of its little niche between the bushes and bramble. When it was done, the next task was actually getting it in the water, which wasn't as easy as it seemed. There was a cliff on the bank side he was on, meaning if he ust slid it in the water it would go floating away without him. What he did was get in the boat and use the oars to slide it down. Mud went everywhere, especially on Tenar, which made him look more like a wild man then a perfectly capable thinking being. As he reached the water one of the oars which were in the boat and he was now using, snapped. He chucked it aside and let the water taken.

He current grabbed the boat and took it, sending it jetting down rapids. He wsa making good time... though he didn't honestly know where he was headed. Soon he burst forth from the forest and was in a wider expanse of land. Something told him to head to Crossroads, but he wasn't totally sure if he could get there on boat. He knew a river went by Crossroads, and it flowed toward it, but he wasn't sure if these two met.

After her brief rest is over she blinks her emerald eyes open, feeling refreshed and free from some of the anxiety of this afternoon. She exits her private chambers and locks the door securly behind her, wanting to ensure her precious bow was safe. She had also left behind her emerald star, a gem that was usually bound to her brow by a thin band of silver. She may reveal that she was of elf kind, but today she did not wish to reveal herself as heir to the throne of the Emerald Woods.
She walks silently down the creaky wooden stairs, nodding again to Taharl and leaving the Spirit Den. She had need of company, but did not wish to banter with the Den's regulars. She walks with quick steps to the edge of the village. Once she was out of the tanglement of homes and shakes she lets out a peircing whistle. After only a few brief moments a silvery mare trots up to the elfess, letting out a joyful whinny as she does so. Diandriel smiles and rubs the mares head affectionatly, careful to avoid the sensitive scar on her forehead.
"Halda Moonglow" she greets the mare before gracefully swinging herself onto Moonglow's bare back. She sighs. It always fealt right to be with her beloved mare, her one constant companion whether she was at home or not. With nothing more then a thought she turns Moonglow towards Leaf Lake, currently a twinkling jewel in the distance.
Pehaps a sit by its waters will clear my head completely Diandriel thinks to herself as Moonglow gallops full speek across the plain, appearing to be a silver streak to any witnessing this beasts grace.

Tenar had lost sense of time. As soon as noticed a bridge approaching, then passing overhead, he knew the turn must be coming up eventually. He almost missed it, seeing as the rapids had picked up and where sending him down faster. The boat made a groaning turn and was trying to be swept back into the faster pace river, but Tenar forced the little boat into the stream. He quickly grabbed the oar and started rowing fast. It took a while and he swore he noticed something on land moving fast, but it was only a white streak and so he thought nothing more. Suddenly before him lay a cool, solid, clear lake. Tenar let the boat pull him to the center where the half moon's light poured over him.

With a snort Moonglow pulls to a halt at the lakes waters and Diandriel dismounts. As Moonglow wanders off to graze Diandriel settles herself on the grass under the shade of one of the few massive Willow's that grew on the waters edge. They were nothing like the Emerald Oak's of her home, but the tree's presence was still comforting to one Chosen by the Goddess Earth. She lets her gaze wander, her far seeing eyes catching a glimpse of the Ruby Mountains far in the distance. Yes, perhaps she coudl travel to Ruby peaks again, it been awile since she had travelled to that town. And for some reason...she could not bring herself to travel to Sapphire Landing, to the Ocean this time around. It held too many memories that for the moment were best left behind.

Its been a week now since I came down out of the mountains. I hadn't realized just how long I had been away but to come back and find Diamond Town like this was just depressing. My favorite tavern was gone only to be replaced by a rat hole that serves some of the foulest mead id ever tasted, and that even after not havening a drop since the day I first LEFT for the mountains. And the rooms were a mess with trash scattered every where. After talking with the warriors that are pretty much all thats left around here I found out that things haven't been going to well lately, what with the necromancer and the orcs, its just not safe any more. Needless to say I decided Id better move on before I wound up some how drug into these matters. A few days, I thought, to gather supplies and then Id be on my way, but instead I am more then warned but TOLD to wait for a caravan to travel out. I don't know, something to do with orcs and ambushes, it was hard to concentrate at the time, after all the mead was finely starting to taste better, took a few glasses but I suppose after so long you tend to miss things more then you think. So now I'm trapped here until the next caravan goes out, I am not allowed to go on my own and the guards around the town borders are very forceful about this and the next caravan could be months away.
The worst part of all this is I have to pay for the room I am staying in, there not cheap and I haven't had any money in goodness only knows how long, so I am now working at the tavern to pay off my bill.

I should've just stayed in the mountains.

((Ok...is it mead or meed?))
