People actually don't really call me a nerd or geek or anything like that. Mosy commonly people have called me goth or emo, which I find amusing because I'm no where near either.
If someone ever does try to insult my book love though I just threaten to smack them over the head with whatever book I happen to have that day.

DevonyEvony XxIAmTheUberNerdxX eek Deja vu. I've had that exact conversation, right down to the name. Except mine ended with another friend stealing the book from my hands while I was talking and telling me reading wan't healthy. Not healthy? Why that's the silliest thing I've ever--*faints* XD

I stopped caring, since I am a geek, nerd, and book lover, I just look at them, say "thank you" and go back to my book. Confuses them to no end, and they usually go away after that.

I have never been called a nerd for reading so much, just for the eighty bazillion other nerdy things that I do. That is a very silly thing to do though. Books are good and good are books.

I've been called a nerd so many times that I've been desenitized to it to the point that I just accept it and take pride in it. My family tries to deny it, but they're just being polite or rather, they don't want to admit there's a nerd in with the rest of them (I'm a bibliophile amongst a pack of jocks).

Javlai While I am big on the "words can never hurt me" slogan, I absolutely detest labels. No one is exactly the same, and no one fits nicely in the package of a one word description. I read an average of 5 books a week and have staight A's- however, I was a prop for my high school rugby team, as well as a cheerleader who has excessive body piercings and listens to metal and deathcore. Label me, I dare you xp
I remember back in high school my english professor said "I wanted to start a book club...but only nerds would come anyway". Ugh...labels...just ugh... heart I think I'm in love. heart
Sincerely though, I detest labels as well. Many of my interests are "typically" not expected of a bibliophile, but that's just life, eh? I don't understand people who try to fit everyone into little categories and such. We are not one-dimensional! Anyone with intelligence is going to have a multi-faceted personality and multiple, varied interests, or they just aren't being true to themselves.
I remember in high school having these conversations on a daily basis:
Random stranger:"Oh, whatcha readin'?" Me: "" Stranger: "Oh, you're reading that for a class? Sucks, huh?" Me: "No, I'm just reading it for fun." o.o Stranger: "... Really? You like reading?" Me: "Yes." o.o Stranger: "You're weird!" Random stranger walks away in disgust.

I actually consider being called a nerd or geek by an absolutely idiot to be a compliment and an honor. Like 'pearls from swine'.

I've always enjoyed reading. I'm 30 now and have 4 bookshelves of books, not to mention all the books sitting on their sides, and in other parts of the apt smile So read to your heart's content, it's not hurting anyone!

All my friends are nerds or geeks of different types; we treat it as a compliment. Nerds are the funnest people.

Hallie Linna red_moon_wolfess PARDON ME! But where I go to school there is a prefered seperation between Geek and Nerd, of which we are nither! Geek: One who loves computers and can do just about anything with them in the blink of an eye. Usualy someone who fixes them for a living or dose it just because they like to. Nerd: One who loves gaming, usualy reffered to one who plays texted baced or MMORPGS. Dungens and Dragons is one of the more popular "Nerd" games. I have to say not only is your friend being rude but she is also incorrect! As far as I know you should have been called a "Book lover" if anything. Where I go to school nearly everyone I know reads.... in fact off the top of my head I can hardly name someone who isn't working their way through one book or another...
Actually, the definition of a nerd/geek/dork changes through time, and has just come to be associated that way. It's slang anyway, and as such has no direct definition. Urban Dictionary sites 139 definitions of Nerd. 3nodding
I rather like to think I'm a nerd, and there's nothing wrong with it. xd
I define them as such:
Dork: A person lacking social skills.
Nerd: An extremely intelligent person, who tends to read/study a lot, and has very good grades.
Geek: A person who knows "everything" about something. Computers, Star Wars, DnD.
I actually think I'm a little bit of all three. And Love it.
Nothing wrong with being a Nerd. But if someone calls you a Nerd, and mean to be rude, that's not right.
In the same way that there is nothing wrong with "cuss" words, but if someone calls you something in a rude manner. That's not right either.
I agree

I don't care really, but it desturbs me that people think you have too be like orderly and the theachers pet just because you read much. I'm not like that at all even if I have good grades.

well, not many people know that i read a lot, so they just find other things to call me. not to mention the fact that when i get insulted, people have learned that they get pain in return. anyways, i don't think i'd be bothered much by someone calling me a nerd. it's just not as insulting as other things people say. just be proud of being smarter than them 3nodding
