I haven't been insulted for being a gamer or tomboy, but I got really annoyed how way back when, classmates would call me a tomboy for the sole reason I liked video games. And no matter how many times I said I wasn't a tomboy, they just kept saying I was. It REALLY annoyed me. Only a handful of the class actually agreed with me or just didn't care. But that generalization really annoyed me.
You got mad at being called a tomboy? I must have a weird frame of mind then, because everytime I am called one I take it as a complament! no joke! I love being called a tomboy! Proud to be able to roll with the best of them and be just as strong as every other man out there! I guess I wear my strength as a badge of pride rather than a mark of shame. xd sweatdrop

As for being made fun of... never happend. I even stop people with a DS in hand, a clear shout-out that I am a gamer, and ask them what they are playing. Sometimes I even make a friend or wind up versing whoever it is at whatever game they have, if not one of the games I have on hand.

Yep. I would rather be called a tomboy than a chick really... and yes proud to be a gamer. I have met a lot of my good male friends that way. Some girls will say things like "she's just doing it to get to the boys" crap. Jealousy will come with the package. My own best friend (girl) once admitted to me she was jealous for a bit because her boyfriend and I had so much in common game-wise. XD But that has passed. 4laugh

W00t to being a tomboy! I proclaim my tomboyism to the world. I've been a tomboy for 12 yrs now with no end in sight, if someone calls me it I basically go 'damn right!' and follow up with a proud pose. I love being as tough as a guy and not being afraid to get down and dirty and other tomboy qualities. If some chick tries to insult me I just reasurre her than I am no less of a female because I am a tomboy. In fact, I revelle in my gender to the point where I refuse to demean myself by wearing uncomfortably tight and/or revealing clothing.
AS for the gamer part, I love being a gamer, tis great fun! But I know a few girls who aren't tomboys yet still enjoy video games. There's no rule that a gamer girl must be a tomboy as well.
Chick's probably jealous as well as an idiot. But who am I to call rude sluts mean names?

Been there done that, my 17 year old cousin told my whole family that I was gay or to put it more into her own words "different" because I'm not all hung up on wearing miniskirts and makeup. And the fact that the only dresses I own are for church and prom. Yea, just a touch pissed off at her. But then again she isn't dating that 22 year old anymore. twisted

Mmm, nope I don't think I have at least. Then again people are afraid to insult me in fear that I may kill them... It's true people have told me this, they mainly think I'll blow up their house or something... But they know I play video games, it's one of the only things I talk about, that and I relate them to class discussions... The only time I was kind of insilted for a tomboy thing was when I was in beginning fishing at camp, a bunch of girls were freaking out about it. I was behind them and tempted to beat them with my fishing pole, but hey not their fault they don't like fishing because it's icky ^^

I've never been insulted in that way. I wouldn't even mind if I was called a tomboy or girl gamer. Playing games are fun! biggrin

Well, some kids keep saying I have no life, but hey, I'm the social recluse- I've had worse and I'm pretty much used to it =l

I'm a mom that plays video games, so I do get looks when other moms find out I like video games. It's kind of insulting, but I think hey if they don't like it no big deal to me and if they don't like me because of it, well it's no loss to me. I'm sure I will eventually find some other gamer mom out there.

My Dad plays his pc games when he gets a chance to. And whenever I go to a certain friend of mine's house her Dad will always play us in Soul Calibar. And the father of another friend of mine plays xbox. True they're not mom's but they're the only gamer Dads that I know.

I'm really sensitive to being singled out like that. (Plus I have social anxiety...But that doesn't mean I'm antisocial!) I wish that I could say that I was proud of being called a tomboy, (because it is a true description of me,) but it just makes me feel like I'm strange.... So I usually don't tell people that I'm a gamer.

I'm comfortable with who I am.. I am a happily married tomboy.. I doubt my husband would've bothered to look in my direction before if I wasn't one. XD Even when people used to call me a lezbo, weirdo or whatever I just shrug it off. I know what I am and I don't need anyone telling me otherwise or giving me crap for it. I will be a gaming mother... that is for damn certain. XD Plus I plan on getting into game concept art anyway so it'll be stuck with me forever... I am cursed... and loving it. 4laugh

I can understand though what it feels like to be isolated. I am eccentric in my own way so I have dealt with that at an early age.. but trust me, it gets better... and it starts with not being afraid of what people think of you. biggrin

See, stuff like this always annoys me because it's so impossibly petty. Who's to say what makes a 'real girl?'

I mean, there's been the whole ruckus over 'real men' with riding motorcycles and drinking beer and being hairy.

Who's to say that makeup and flirting and skimpy clothes make a real woman?

I say a real woman is someone who is comfortable with their gender enough to do what's not the norm for gender roles.

I don't condemn the stereotype. I condemn the little witch with a worldview flatter than dried toothpaste.

I'm a shy tomboy in school but if someone was to ever insult me I will also go into my New York mode (live in Florida) (born in new york) I love being a tomboy who wears a little make up..I just wish i could be more of a tom boy like buying more boyish clothes (love wearing boxers redface ) I wanna cut my long black hair off to make it shorter play some X-box and beat all my cuzins in good old Halo 2

I do hear people calling a lesbo even though thats not true but I try to ignore everything they say about me ..but it gets to sometimes..people even call me emo cause i wear dark clothes (no i don't cut myself) But I'm just happy cause I hang out with my friends at lunch

I got a lot of that in middle school but not so much now in highschool. I still get a few odd looks from the occasional group of girls when they overhear me talking about video games to my friends, but they never say anything.

In middle school, however, I got more crap. Probably cuz I did eigth grade in a different school from where I did 6 and 7. I went from a pretty boy-dominated school to a very preppy, girly school and I'm pretty sure I was the only girl there that liked video games. A lot of girls told me "Why don't you just become a boy? You act like one." to which I usually responded "Screw you." Eh. I don't care what other people think though. I've been a tomboy since...since...birth. And I'm okay with that.
