Zack ignored the child. Babies didn't really know what they were doing anyways. His father, however, did. And now, much to Zack's displeasure, was completely ignoring the him, talking to Devakanya instead. Well...at least he wasn't hurting her. Zack didn't actually want to get in a fight he probably couldn't win.
Devakanya looked up at the protector, nodding slightly. That was her dad alright, the big goof ball. He just...couldn't...well, the music made him really weird.

Devon looked even more skeptical but he finally nodded. Bending, he set Ignacio down on the grass. The golden-haired little boy promptly snarled at the change and went on all fours, his tail held high. With more care, Devon shifted Devakanya to both arms, cradling her safely with her horse in her grip. "Are you sure about this, kiddo?" he asked her even as he took a few steps towards Zack.

Devakanya took a chance, blessing the strange man with a very small, shy smile. Hopefully, he was observant enough to catch it. She reached towards Blackie, hoping to have her beloved friend back before Nice Stranger gave her back to her slightly inept father. She nodded again, pointing to Zack before going back to trying to reach for the toy horse.
Zack sighed and rolled his eyes. "Dude, just put her down," he grumbled. He really wasn't pleased a stranger was handling his girl...but she seemed okay. As long as she seemed okay, he could stay here and observe.

"I'm not gonna just put her down," Devon snapped back, rolling his eyes. He set the stuffed horse in Devakanya's lap. "She's just a little kid. Swear to God, I hope she's not your biological kid or she'll grow up braindead."
Ignacio crawled quickly so he was in line with Devon, paused, and then crawled a bit further until he was at Zack's feet. He lifted a fist and shook it a bit at the tall, dark-haired man. When Zack made no effort to respond, he huffed noisily and crawled forward more to tap the top of Zack's shoe. "Dah dah," he sighed. "No bah bah."
Devon raised an eyebrow, looking down at his child as he passed over his adorable little burden. "Nacho, what the hell you on about now?" he sighed.

Devakanya hugged Blackie with great enthusiasm, having missed her friend very much. She was very sorry she left him behind in her panic, and she assured him she would never do it again. Silently, of course, but that was okay. Blackie always understood everything she told him. She snuggled the stuffed animal again, watching Zack with large eyes. This was turning into a very big mess. Next time, he shouldn't sleep in the sky, so he wouldn't fall out.
Zack opened his mouth for another crude remark when Ignacio crawled over to his feet, shaking a fist. Well. That was...peculiar. "No bah bah, huh?" he asked, having no idea what in particular the kid was saying. Probably just baby noises. He shrugged, looking up at Devon, green eyes narrowing.
"Does it look like I could in any way, shape, or form be her biological father?" he snorted. "She's a bloody unicorn."

"I dunno," Devon replied and, now that Deva was apparantly happy in the other man's arms, his tone slid into lazy and half-muttering. In fact, he was abruptly non-confrontational. Unfortunately, Ignacio did not take a similar cue and was busily growling and snapping at Zack's shoe. "Maybe she got all her charm an' looks from her mom." Devon shrugged and let his gaze slip to his own child. "Nacho, quit it."
Twisting, Ignacio pouted before pointing towards Zack again. "No bah bah," he insisted.
Devon sighed. "I think he's sayin' you don't get a baby. Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. What with she bein' your kid and all."

Zack rolled his eyes and shifted Devakanya in his arms. "She ain't my biological kid," he grumbled, ruffling her lavender hair. "I got her from the Cabbage Patch. For Osha. So he wasn't lonely," he shrugged, looking down at the small child threatening his shoe. He raised an eyebrow, amused by Devon's explanation.
He set Devi down next to the boy. "There. Are you happy now?"
Devakanya clutched her father's leg as the man looked back over to Devon. "I'm Zack, by the way. And that's Devakanya...Devi for short," he added, not entirely sure if he had already introduced her. He shrugged, adjusting his headphones so they covered his ear better. "She wasn't bothering you 'er nothin', was she?"

Ignacio immediately rocked back to land on his bottom with a jolt when Devi was placed beside him. He hesitated, looked up at Zack as if to judge his intentions, and then smiled toothily at the man. Zack was forgiven. Holding out his hands to Devi, Ignacio burbled his welcome.
Devon couldn't resist snickering at the child's abrupt change of mood and shook his head vaguely before crossing his arms over his lean chest. "No problem. Hell, I didn't even know she was there 'til Ignacio found her. She's quiet, huh?" Suddenly, he paused and frowned. "Cabbage? Hey, that's where he's from... Who's Osha, though? Not your boss or something, right? That's how I got Iggy there." The more Devon talked, the more it seemed that the nickname "Nacho" was reserved for only direct use to the child. "I had to get a cabbage to get a job."

Devakanya watched Ignacio warily, hugging Blackie close to her chest. He had tried to eat her beloved. Well, maybe he didn't know Blackie was her best friend. She could give him the benefit of the doubt -given, in her mind, it was put in much simpler, toddler logic- and she could probably sit with him. As long as she kept Blackie safe in her lap, she could sit next to fuzzy boy. Yes.
Zack shrugged. "I haven't heard her talk since I got 'er," he admitted, watching her sit quietly. "I've been told she's prolly just shy...so...m'just giving her time, and what not." He glanced back up, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. "...Osha's my other kid. Adopted. I don't got a boss." Yes, that's right. Poor Zackary was unemployed.

The look on Devon's face was clearly sympathetic. "Two?" he said. "Damn, you must be outta your mind." He shook his head. "One's more'n enough for me. A cabbage was one thing but this guy? He eats things."
Oblivious to his "father's" chagrin, Ignacio beamed even more as Devi seemed to relax. He reached down and dug his fingers through the grass, searching. A crease appeared between his eyebrows and then, suddenly, it disappeared as he lifted a handful of torn green stems, a single dandelion nestled amongst them. He held it out to her. "Mmm?"

Zack shook his head, pushing a stray strand of hair out of his eyes. "Naw. Osha's quiet. Devi's quiet. I don't got 'nything better to do, 'nyways." He shrugged. He could get a job, he supposed, but without a high school education, it might be a little difficult. "A'sides, I like kids." That was true enough. "But two is plenty."
Devakanya watched Ignacio curiously, leaning over Blackie as the boy dug through the lawn. He plucked out a flower and...was he offering that to her? The unicorn typed her head to the side, nodding towards it. She liked flowers. She reached forward shyly, waiting for him to jerk it away. Boys could be mean like that.

"Mmm," Ignacio encouraged as he continued to hold out the handful of greenery. "Num num."
Devon looked down to see the plant exchange and couldn't quite stifle the faint smile. "And it looks like he wants to teach your girl to eat things, too." He shrugged and absently rolled one shoulder to work out a kink, reaching up to tug at the collar of his worn t-shirt. A flash of inked skin appeared and disappeared. "He's not loud either, though," he finally sighed. "He's just mad-destructive. He's lucky I don't give a s**t about any of my furniture."

Devakanya leaned all the way forwards, shyly taking the flower from the boy. She waited, holding it carefully and...nothing happened. Nothing happened! Astounded, she sat there with a flower in one hand and Blackie in her lap, entirely uneaten and unbothered. Wow! Slowly, she offered the boy a shy smile as she snuggled her toy horse up to her chest. He wasn't so bad after all!
Zack nodded, knowing the feeling well. Nothing in his apartment was too much...his. It was mostly Seamus' old junk, and while 'technically' he owned it, there was no attachment whatsoever. "They might not eat things, but Osha loves painting." Osha painted everything. One time, Zack had come home to find Osha had decorated the kitchen table with his finger paints...and spent three hours scrubbing the damned stuff off. Washable. Hah.
He stretched a little, catching a glimpse of his watch as he did. Crap! 5:30!? He'd left poor Osha home alone for five hours without even meaning to! God, he was so bad at this. Stupid nap, sucking up his time like that. "Hey man, I gotta run," he said apologetically as he leaned down to scoop the unicorn up. "Osha's home alone and...yeah." He didn't really want to have to clean away another masterpiece. He glanced at Devi. "Say goodbye, yeah?"
Devi blinked as Zack picked her up, careful to keep a firm grip on both Blackie and the pretty flower. She turned to Ignacio, giving a small wave goodbye with a sad little smile. Maybe they could play again sometime.
((OOC: I thought maybe I should start wrapping it up... ^^;; ))

At the sudden loss of his new friend, Ignacio opened his mouth in preparation for a truly heinous scream of indignation. However, the impetus fell away as he felt himself snatched up as well and settled into the crook of Devon's arm. He looked up with a glare. Devon ignored him, too busy trying to reach into one of his back pockets with his free hand. Huffing, Ignacio pouted and reached out both hands for Devi.
"Ah, here we go." Devon handed over a bent piece of light cardboard, an obvious business card. "Just in case. I mean, Iggy likes her and we can pen 'em up or something. What do they call 'em? Playdates? My number's on there and... Ouch, hey, now." He abruptly juggled his child to the other arm and shook out his hand. He rolled his eyes. "Great. He still bites me but is nice as pie to your little girl. Figures. Anyway... Well, there's the number."
((Sounds good!))

Devakanya looked around as Ignacio reached for her. She should have something to bequeath upon him...but all she had was her beloved Blackie and the flower she was just gifted with. Still, though. She turned, looking at Zack. Aha! Reaching forward, she tried to pluck the shiny from her father's ear.
Zack yowled, free hand flying to the little girl's hand. It was unnecessary, really, because his shriek of pain was more than enough to startle the child, leaving her cowering against he chest. "Devi," he said slowly, rubbing his ear, "please do not pull on that. It's attached."
He pet her hair gently before taking the business card, giving it an appraiser's look. He flashed Devon a quirky grin. "Yeah, sure. I'm sure she'd like that." His eyes flashed to the small unicorn in her arms, watching as she bobbed her head in agreement. "Well, there you have it. I'll give you a call sometime." He gave Devon a wave before sauntering off, and with that, Zackary no-last-name was gone.
