Nate thought for a moment on that. "I-I d-don't think s-so... B-but I was r-really little..." The boy's face screwed up again as he thought, thinking back to those few memories he still had of when he was with his mother. They were getting fuzzier as he was getting older. "B-but why did she l-leave and not say anything t-to me?"

"Um... Maybe she couldn't? Maybe she thought that she was coming back and something simply happened to her. Maybe she wasn't allowed to say anything to you..." Okay, so she was starting to grasp at straws, but still... they sounded like valid points...

Nate hung his head. "S-so you don't think she'll b-be coming b-back for me...?" That was what his daddy had said. That was why he was living with the man now. Even though he loved the man dearly, there was still that part of him that ached for the mother he'd once had.
Talner hung back, watching the two cautiously. He'd had a feeling that Nate was still clinging to the woman who'd abandoned him, even after all this time. It would be good for the boy to talk out some of his feelings to someone other than his father. The kid needed reassurance constantly and was unlike most kids starting to hit his teenage years in that he still clung to childish things and especially to his father.

Papina splashed more water on her face, and then onto the rest of her. She'd rather not be burned to a crisp because she said something that caused Nate to lose control of his power...
"... If she's not allowed to, or something happened that makes her unable to... Well... yes... One way or another anyways... At least... not any time soon..." There wasn't much else she could say, really...

Nate sniffled a bit, though he hadn't lost complete control of his ability yet. Seeing Papina splash some more water on her face, Nate felt to see if he'd gotten any hotter during this bout of insecurity. Yup, though only a bit. He quickly worked on lowering his temperature, calming himself some in the process.
Now came the awkward silence and Nate had no idea what to say.

"..." Ah, the moment of heavy silence, although the air did seem to cool down some. "... So... uh..." What was there to talk about that wouldn't upset Nate further?
"Erm... So... If your mom isn't your current guardian..." She was guessing that was the case based on what all Nate had said, "... who is?"

"I-I went and st-stayed at the Museum for a while, t-then a m-man came and said he'd be my d-daddy. Nara made me stop hurting and gave me these." The boy gestured towards his outfit. "It doesn't burn like my other clothes..."

Huh?
Papina was so confused by that answer that a landslide of questions tumbled out of her mouth. "You stayed at the Museum for awhile? You mean you were without a guardian at all during that time? You're saying someone just came and said they'd be your daddy? Out of the blue? Wait. Nara made you 'stop hurting'? How'd she do that? You were hurting to start with? She gave you those clothes? They don't burn? Why not?" If she had actually stopped to think for a moment before asking most of those, she likely would have gotten the answers on her own, but shocked as she was, there was no time to hold the questions back before they rushed out.
Of course, Nate still hadn't answered her orginal question: Just who was his current guardian?

Poor Nate blinked at the outpouring of questions. "Yeah... the lady wasn't happy about me staying there... she was very grumpy." The boy thought for a moment. "Nara said something about me hurting because my mommy had left me... then when she did something with me and my daddy, I stopped hurting. And these are firemen's clothes. So they don't burn." The boy's tone, which had been getting duller with the responses about his mommy and hurting took a swing towards the happier end with the discussion of his clothes.

Papina almost missed the tone, but the upwards swing at the end clued her in. "Ah..." she said faintly, taking all that in. Well, it was her own fault for asking all that at once. Some of those responses weren't quite the answers she would have thought of if she had tried to answer them on her own. She wanted to talk more about the clothes Nate had, but there was still a question he had yet to answer.
Her tone sounded worried. "Nate, who is your current guardian? They are here with you, right?" She wanted to make sure that his current guardian hadn't let him come here on his own, or worse, left him here on his own.

Nate turned and pointed at Talner. "He's right there. That's my daddy..." He grinned a bit as the man waved in their direction and wandered a bit closer to the two scroll children.
"I would be very, very sad if my daddy left...." Nate told Papina.

((*picks random thoughts off the top of her head* v.v; Sad...))
"The one that just waved at us?" Papina squinted in the guardian's general direction, attempting to see him better before giving a small wave back. She turned back to face Nate and hid a wince at what he said next. She debated patting him on the shoulder, but really didn't want to risk third degree burns, so she settled for giving a small, half-smile and a shrug. "Well, I'd think your dad would stick as long as he can." That didn't come out right. "I mean..." she paused, a thoughtful look on her face as she started to ponder something in comparsion to her own guardian, "I mean, no one knows what will happen to them in the future, and..." she faultered for a moment, seeming to withdraw from a certain memory, "Well... there are some... who would rather we scroll children... well..." How to put this? "... ceased to exist..." She looked worried as something just came to her and her next words were more to herself than Nate. "They might go after our guardians to find a way to us..." She actually hadn't thought of that before. What if something happened to her own guardian? Her mother was so afraid something might happen to her kids, to her and Luna, but what about her mother? Perhaps she should stay at home a bit more often...
She was so lost in her thoughts, she even forgot about how hot she was getting...
((Sorry if I messed something up... sweatdrop *has pretty much forgotten what has and hasn't happened at this particular point* ;>> Nate is an Advanced Child here, right? *blames large time gap between PD start and now*))

((Yeah.... ^^" Maybe we should wrap this up... it's been going on for some time....))
Good thing that Papina wasn't paying much attention to the temperature because the air around Nate suddenly began to dance as heat radiated outwards from his body as his eyes grew to the size of half dollars. "Someone'd go after my daddy!?" The boy looked rather frightened at that thought. "Do you think that's what happened to my mommy? Did they get her?" Whoever this 'they' was, Nate did not like them!
The boy started to cry again, the tears evaporating to leave salt crusted under his eyes and he ran to hug his guardian's legs. Talner winced as the heat threatened to burn his pants into the skin on his legs, but his kid was upset and it was over something this girl had said to him.
"Daddy, Daddy! Don't leave me!" The boy sniffled, looking up at the man. "And be careful! They might come after you like they did my mommy!"
Needless to say, Talner was now wondering just what exactly this odd green girl had told his son. The poor kid was still having enough problems getting over his seperation anxiety the way it was. So what had she said to make Nathaniel cry like this?

Papina slapped one hand over her face. Oh dear. Just how much of that did she say out loud? The heat finally grew to where she noticed and she moved her hand so she could see. "Nate. Turn the heat down, please? It's hard to explain when you're radiating enough heat to not only make me uncomfortable, but your dad as well from the looks of it. If there was anyone like that here right now, we'd know by now." She rather pitied his dad. Hopefully the house was at least fire-resistant if not fire-proof.
And she said they might go after the guardians. They hadn't yet, and they might just leave the guardians out of it. She wondered if she should explain about the Templars and Nara or not. At least to Nate's dad, if not Nate himself. ..
... Or she could just have Nara explain it. She gave his dad a long-suffering look. "Sorry. I didn't think he'd react quite like that..." From Templars possibly going after guardians to Templars having already gotten Nate's mom was not a connection she had thought of.
((Wrapping up soon be nice. *nodnod* Can we please not have Nate go off all upset and leave Papina feeling all guilty-like? ;>> Please?))

((NO! Nate's going to run away crying!! XDD))
Nate sniffled, his gasping breaths struggling to get under control as the boy tried to calm himself enough to make the surrounding air comfortable enough for his parent and the plant girl. Unfortunately, the burns on Talner's legs would take longer to heal, but at least they wouldn't be getting worse... And Talner was finding out fast which burn creams really did work.
Talner gave a small smile to Papina. "It's okay... He's just really sensitive still." He patted the boy on the head. "C'mon Nate... Let's go get some ice cream..." The man hoped that it might cool the inner temperature of the kid down some... though it wasn't really that that was the problem.
"Okay..." The boy took his father by the hand and glanced back to wave at Papina, even managing a bit of a smile in her direction.
