Tristan smiled, oh to be young again and to be proud of how much you had grown. At thirty Tristan only seemed to grow in the horizontal manner and he did what he could to hide it. He wasn't so proud to be growing, but he wasn't a kid.
Holden had walked into the room by now, surprised he hadn't heard the sounds of an angry Tristan, which wasn't so much yelling as grumbling. 'Who's Olden?' indeed. The raccoon boy was starting to get a little pouty, crossing his arms and standing there.
"Who's Holden?" Tristan said, pronouncing the 'H' that the boy himself seemed incapable. "Well I'm Holden's dad, just like I'm Hamlet's."

Gavin paused for a moment to process the impact of this new information. Holden's daddy. Just like he was Hammit's daddy. That made enough sense, he guessed. The other little boy seemed to be living there after all, which made him part of the huge family that seemed to be gathering at the compound. It just felt better to get that assurance from a grown-up.
However, another question rolled off his tongue without really thinking about it.
"So why'd you be Olden's daddy?" he asked, attaching another innocent question to the end. "How do you become the daddy of someone?"
Maybe one day he'd be the daddy of someone. That would be fun. It'd be like taking care of his favorite stuffed rabbit, except that it would walk, talk, and be even more fun. He now had a new goal in life, the third new one this week.

Tristan paused for a moment. Why was it children always asked awkward questions? At least it wasn't right out 'where do babies come from?' he could get out of this. He didn't think he could ever manage The Talk, he'd pass Holden off to someone else when that time came if he had his way.
"We'll I became Holden's daddy because he needed a daddy and I wanted a to be a daddy," he explained, and now for the trickier part. "There are a few different ways someone can become a daddy, I adopted Holden, which is one way."

Gavin paused for a moment to digest this. So all you had to do was want to be a daddy? Well then that made it easy. If it required some sort of test or lots of questions, then being a daddy wouldn't sound like so much fun anymore.
"Can I become a daddy?" he grinned with childlike excitement. He wanted to know more about this whole adoption thing. Since others like him seemed to keep popping up out of nowhere--he looked at Holden--maybe they'd give one to him. He was a big boy! How hard could it be, right?

"I'm sure you could be a daddy," Tristan replied with a bright smile, "but you'll have to wait until you're much, much older. You need to be a full grown adult before you become a daddy." He tried to emphasize the needing to be an adult, he didn't want an upset guardian showing up and yelling at him because he was putting crazy ideas in the heads of children.

"Awww..." Gavin pouted. Why did all the cool stuff come when you were older? Maybe he should give up on the parenting idea for now and continue toward his dream of becoming a superhero. Or at least someone's knight in shining armor, like he'd read in those fairytale books.
Noticing that he'd kinda forgotten that Holden was still in the doorway, Gavin decided to turn his focus onto the new toddler, who he now knew was not an alien or an evil twin. He felt a little silly now, considering he hadn't given the other boy a proper welcome. If he'd just said from the beginning that Tristan was his daddy, then he wouldn't have seemed so suspicious!
"Olden! You should meet Osha and Haki and Ina!" he splurged, throwing his arms up in enthusiasm over the idea. Maybe if he got the raccoon-boy to meet all of his friends, he wouldn't act so weird anymore.

Holden was so taken aback by Gavin's sudden enthuseasim that he actually took a step back. He blinked a few time before replying quietly, "Know Ina." He had met the wolf girl once before but these others, Osha and Haki, he had no clue.

Well, this was progress. Or something like progress. At least Holden had met one of the other toddlers.
"Anyone else?" he asked, hope shining from his eyes like lighthouse beacons. If not, then he'd just have to go introduce him to everybody. Or at least find some way to get him to meet other people. New friends were always a welcome addition, even if they were a little weird at first.

Holden thought for a moment, did he know anyone else? Oh yeah that girl who had helped him find Hamlet the one day. "Elisa," he said after a moment of thinking about her name. She had been nice and he probably wouldn't have been able to find puppy without her.
Tristan raised an eyebrow a little at this. He hadn't met Elisa and he was wondering how his boy had. It was short lived wondering though, he just chalked it up to when Dmitri had lived with them and when he was babysitting,

Gavin paused for a moment, lingering on that name. Elisa. He hadn't heard of her before. Or maybe he had? He couldn't remember. All he knew was that he couldn't put a face with the name, and therefore she was considered a 'stranger.'
"Who's that?" he asked, curious and suspicious at the same time, though childish excitement over the possibility of yet another new person lingered in his tone as well. Hopefully she was a good person.

Holden frowned, Gavin seem to insist on asking questions that required him to talk. "S'girl," Holden mutter as he tried to think how to describe the girl, "red hair." After that he stopped, he could think of nothing else to say. After she didn't have anything that really stood out, no tail or anything as such that stood out so.
