Starting out with learning leads is going to be a tough slog. You have to start by taking it really really really really slow. Learn the passage first, then bring it up to speed. There's too many guitar players who try to play whatever too fast right off the bat. You just can't do this and expect quick results.
Ah I remember when I was first learning. I would always try and play 3 notes as fast as I could without looking. I always hurt myself. I still do that sometimes when playing a song.
