Finch nodded and sat on the floor sloppily, holding his head in a hand. "I didn't meet him, no. I'm not really in a hurry to, either. He didn't look to friendly when I saw him. But I guess I shouldn't judge him before knowing him, right? I mean he might not have been in a good mood those times." he replied with a slight shrug. He really wasn't feeling too well. "I'm sorry. I'm not feeling to well right now." He said explaining why he was seated on the dirty floor with a strange look in his eyes.

Raeli nodded and shrugged. "Well you shouldn't look at it so long then, ah?" he said with a giggle, "It's not the best thing to do. I don't know why it'd make you sneeze though. That sounds a bit strange. But then I guess nothing is impossible, is it?"

"Raeli, love? Can you put this other load in. I want to go home as soon as possible or I wont be able to go anywhere till late tonight. Still not feeling to well." Finch said pulling a lollipop out of a pocket and tossing it at the corsea.

Obediently Raeli put the lollipop in his mouth(after unwrapping it) before putting on another load of clothes fore his companion. "Hooorr thduu oo wok thez thang?" he asked looking at the options on it curiously. In all his time in this world, he'd not once learned how to work something mechanical. Not even a television.

Genevieve's heart went out the the somewhat ill-looking young man on the very putrid-looking floor. She couldn't think why, exactly, he was suddenly so ill, but she felt sorry for him nonetheless. He had said earlier to Raeli, she recalled, that he was not feeling well.

"Here, let me," Genevieve offered, deftly removing the clothing from the corsea's hands, loading the machine, and turning the dials to the appropriate settings, allowing Raeli no chance to object. "It's a good thing you sorted this before coming, or there'd be some problems," she said to no one in particular.

Having overheard by accident the latter part of Dragul's conversation, Genevieve remarked, "It's normal to sneeze when you look at the sun, Dragul. At least for humans. I can't think why you'd have that problem."

Dragul nodded sagely, absorbing this drop of wisdom bestowed upon her by Genevieve, who knew mostly everything about everything, as far as Dragul could tell. Then she turned to Raeli and said very seriously, "Jahwee-eh says i's no'mal to ss-nee-zz when I lookkat the sun."

"Thank you." Finch said with a soft smile before closing his eyes and taking in a deep breath. "I spose I'll have to drag Raeli along next time I do washing and show him how to work everything, huh?" He said realizing how little the corsea knew about the modern world. Heck. Even Finch didn't know a terrible lot.

"Thank you." Raeli said when he took the lollipop out of his mouth, "It's times like these when I wish humans had fur or something. Then they wouldn't need clothes."
He turned sharply to Dragul when she spoke to him and smiled. "I've never actually heard of anyone sneezing from looking at the sun. If it's normal then it must mean it won't make you sick... well.. it shouldn't anyway." He said to her looking at Finch for a second to make sure the vampire was ok. He already knew he wasn't, Raeli figured it was a human thing. An instinct you pick up from others or something.

"Well. You two are getting along well I'm guessing. I'm actually quite surprised. It's not like you to be so tolerant at a first meeting, Raeli." Finch commented having been watching the two while they were talking to each other.

"It's an idea," Genevieve agreed, responding to Finch's supposition that he'd have to teach Raeli how to work a washing maching. "But I don't imagine it's a practical skill for most corsea to possess. He might not go for it. And it's not a problem at all, Raeli."

Privately, she was glad humans didn't have fur or something. She could imagine all too well how awful it would be to be unable to hide her many flaws beneath shapeless clothing. Then people might notice she actually had a figure, which was one of the last things she wanted, considering how her relationships tended to go, which was to say, down the toilet.

"If Jawee-eh says so, i's t'ue. Jawee-eh knows e'erysin'."

Genevieve, while touched by Dragul's devotion, was slightly embarrassed at the sentiments the undera expressed. The inaccurate sentiments, for that matter. She certainly didn't know everything. If she did, she'd know what to do about Andrew. She considered for half an instant asking Finch for advice, but then decided that he didn't need to hear about her social ineptitude.

Across the laundromat, the man with the magazine was staring fixedly at them.

I swear. It's true. I'm not making it up. People tend to sneeze when they look directly at the sun. Not that it works on me (go figure), but it works on everyone else I know. Or maybe it's just a Delawarean thing.

{{Strange... never happens to me either.}}

While still listening to Genevieve, Finch attention was slowly starting to shift. The sound of blood being pumped through each individual body in the room was thumping in his ears. "Raeli, dear, you'll be own your own again tonight. You probably wont see me till tomorrow morning." He muttered to give the corsea warning, his eyes flashed a little but it wouldn't have been noticed in such light.

"Should you really be out all night if you feel so sick now?" The corsea asked a little worried. He knew exactly why Finch wouldn't be there, but he was worried that feeling so ill might make him a little careless. He didn't want anything to happen to the man. "Just make sure you know what you're doing." he added not really wanting to talk about such issues in front of others.
"Does Genevieve really know everything? Can she... teach me how to work with numbers? Finch can't because he doesn't know how." He asked turning to look up at the woman, "I asked someone else once, but he disappeared somewhere now." The corsea really was eager to learn about the numbers systems the humans used. He figured they probably used the same one in the underground so it would be a useful thing to learn.

"Don't make me sound like an idiot or anything now, will you? If you'd told me you want to learn these things I could have tried to find someone to help you sooner..." Finch muttered shifting a little uneasily.
He caught the gaze of the other man in the corner of his eye and turned to look at him, his eyes flashing wildly and slightly more noticeable than before. He looked like an easy one to get to. Finch was about to show his fangs when he realized where he was. This wasn't the time. He shook his head and turned back to the others, smiling at them as he stood himself up again.

Genevieve was totally oblivious to the creepy man's stare, and mostly oblivious to the significant glances exchanged between human and corsea. She was a firm believer in privacy, and wasn't about to delve into others' affairs without an engraved invitation. Even then, she might enclose in the RSVP a query along the lines of "are you sure?"

Dragul, loyal to the end and believing firmly that she spoke the complete truth in declaring Genevieve to be omniscient, nodded emphatically.

"Jawee-eh can teachoo numbahs. Teach me too. I wanna know numbahs."

Genevieve had been good at mathematics in high school and she had kept her basic math skills sharp by running the cash register and figuring out checks and suchnesses in her job at the diner. She probably could teach Raeli how to work with numbers, but to be volunteered to do so by Dragul was still embarrassing. She was not particularly good at receiving praise, particularly not from a source with such blind devotion. She wasn't comfortable with the idea of blind devotion. Blind devotion to her seemed ridiculous to Genevieve, who saw mostly her flaws and failings when she considered herself, which she did as infrequently as possible.

"I don't really know everything, but I can teach you that, Raeli, if Finch doesn't mind, at least the basics. I'm not sure how effective I would be as an instructor."

She had tutored for Honor Society community service hours, but she had hated every minute of it because neither she nor the person she was to tutor actually wanted to be present and engaged in the activity of tutoring or being tutored. Perhaps with a willing pupil she might be more successful.

"I'd certainly be willing to try. However, I'm not sure how much you'll be able to pick up, Dragul. You are a bit young, I think. Maybe." She wasn't quite sure how young Dragul was, corresponding relative ages to human ages, but she guessed that the undera was no older than twelve, mentally, and probably a good deal younger than that.

She refrained from extending the invitation to Finch because she didn't want to embarrass him, but then she realized that if she didn't make the offer, he would be forced to ask, which would be even worse. Social graces sometimes seemed so far beyond her that she wondered if she was any more human than Dragul.

"If you have time, Finch, you could always come by and hang out. I mean, it's kind of boring listening to math lessons, but we could do something afterward, like..."

Like what? What did barely-acquaintances do together after a math lesson? And for that matter, why was she speaking about these things as if they were a fait accompli? It must have been all the time she had spent with Andrew. he tended only to make declarative sentences, never doubting for an instant that everyone would go along with him.

"Um...If you meant it, that is, Raeli?"

Raeli smiled and nodded. "Even a little would be great. It doesn't matter if you're not a great instructor because I don't exactly know much about it anyway, so I should get too confused... and Finchy says I'm a fast learner and a very bright character." The pink corsea said with and excited glint in his eyes, "And I'm sure it's never to early for Dragul to start learning. It'd just take a little longer for her to get the hang of things, should there actually be any issues... I think..."

Finch wasn't really listening at first. His mind was on blocking out the sounds of the heartbeats in the room. "M-me?" He asked kind of surprised about the whole 'hanging out' thing, "If Raeli wants you to teach him, and you'd like to teach him then I have no issues... But I'm not exactly sure what you were saying before... Were you asking if I wanted lessons too, or were you just inviting me over while you were giving them?" He wasn't usually invited to peoples houses, for lessons or otherwise, he just usually showed up on their doorstep... Sometimes even when they didn't even give him an address.

"You should really take lessons yourself, Finchy. You don't get very far not knowing mathematics... Do you still have issues with being educated?" Raeli asked floating over and poking the vampire's cheek.

Finch frowned. "Do you mind? I do not have issues. I just... Don't feel comfortable having professionals teach me... Why do you think I didn't go to school, but I let the twins teach me how to read?" He said trying to defend himself.

"I'd call that an 'issue'... whatever." The corsea replied with a shrug and turning to Genevieve again. "So? You up for being a tutor for a little while?" He asked with a bright smile.

Bright smiles. They would be the bane of her existence, Genevieve was certain. She had such a hard time saying no to people who directed them at her, likely because she hated to be a disappointment, as she often feared she was.

"I'm game," she said. "And that was an invitation, Finch, if you're interested."

A machine buzzed. Hers. Had that been her second load? She glanced at the basket near her. It couldn't have been. She unloaded the machine and put the wash in the dryer, and then she reloaded the machine with her final load. Raeli had been right earlier when he said using two machines would have been faster.

"When would be convenient for you? And is there anyplace you'd prefer to meet?"

She still couldn't believe she was doing this, but it was kind of exciting. Not that her life really needed any more excitement of late. Still...she doubted Finch would suddenly leap to his feet and rip her throat out with his teeth or something, and Raeli didn't seem inclined to do that either. She couldn't be in too much danger.

"It's all convenient. When is up to you. I'm not expecting visitors or events to pop up any time soon. So long as it's not tonight... Although I spose Raeli could still go and it'd just be lacking me... We could always meet at your place. Unless you wanted to come over to ours or something." Finch replied with a slight shrug. He swore under his breath when he nearly lost his balance. Stumbling a little until he was sure he was stead, he leaned against the first washer he was using.

"I'm sorry Finch... I shouldn't have kept you out in the sun so long." Reali muttered slightly distressed. "Perhaps we should wait here for a while, even after the washing's done... You don't look like you could walk all that way. Unless you want to call a cab or something." The corsea suggested wondering just how much longer the first load had to go.

"I'm fine. Just forget it. I can walk home. We still have a while left anyway." Finch snapped unexpectedly. It made to corsea jump and cling to Genevieve without realizing. "You can sort out the whole lessons thing yourself. I don't care when or where." He told the corsea talking in deep breaths so he could focus.

Raeli let go of Genevieve and put on a nervous smile. If he'd not already been pink the corsea's cheeks would be a bright red. "W-what about tomorrow some time? We've got nothing on then. Although Finch will be asleep most of the morning." He asked ignoring the vampires mood swings.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 03, 2007 7:00 am

Genevieve was as startled by Finch's sudden mood swing as Raeli, but she hid it better, even when the corsea started and clung to her. She did wonder once more if she was doing the smart thing. She could well end up dead after all.

Stop being stupid, she thought unkindly to herself. He's sick and grouchy, as is his right, considering.

Aloud, she agreed, "Tomorrow would be fine. Perhaps sometime in the late afternoon, early evening? I've got huge amounts of job applications and stuff to fill out tomorrow. I just got fired."

She didn't know why she had just told them that. They hardly needed to know, and they obviously had troubles of their own, and she didn't need to add to them. There was nothing they could do about her job, and she didn't want to make them feel any worse.

Dragul perked up. "See Raeli t'morra? Goo' fun!"

Clearly the little undera had already forgotten that it was for lessons, and not recreation. Dragul, like many people, had selective hearing, vision, and memory. Genevieve wished she could develop one of those. Any of them.

Genevieve did consider asking if she should call someone about Finch's condition, but then she considered her own: her face being a patchwork of bruises from her recent mugging and her clothing kind of ratty. She also considered that there were a number of reasons why Finch might not want her to call the hospital, whose number she knew by heart. Topping the list, he didn't look like the type to carry insurance, and Genevieve knew from experience that hospital fees were exorbitant.

"Okay. Tomorrow afternoon it is. I'm sure Finch will be awake and back to his usual self by then." The corsea said with a smile and a nod, ruffling Dragul's hair playfully. Strangely he found her to be more amusing then he had ever expected the undera to be. "After lessons we'll have some fun." He promised tapping the goblin on the nose with his index finger.

"You got fired too, huh? So did a friend of ours. Do you mind if I ask where you worked?" Raeli asked giving Finch a quick glance. The vampire had often talked about getting a job, but he was having difficulty finding night shifts. Seems in this city there were as many awake at night as there were asleep.
Right now the vampire was standing still with his eyes closed. He didn't even appear to notice the conversation between his charge and the other two. In fact he didn't even seem to notice anything. Was he asleep? Raeli didn't think so. Just in case he didn't say anything.

"I know what you're thinking Raeli, and I'd advise you to stop." Finch muttered without opening his eyes. Living with the corsea most of it's time in this world meant he knew how the creature's mind tended to work. "So where did you work? and why did you get fired? Sorry if I'm prying, but you just don't seem the type to get fired easily. Although I guess I know too little about you to say for sure." He asked opening his eyes at last and watching her curiously.

Genevieve rolled her head on her neck, not in response to the question about her job so much as just because it needed done. Dragul mimicked the movement unconsciously as she smiled at Raeli, mouthing the word "fun."

"I was working at the local truck stop, Izzy's Diner. I got fired because they decided that I had stolen the deposit I was supposed to drop off at the bank."

She didn't think to mention that the accusations against her were false, and that she hadn't stolen the money. She wasn't the sort to defend herself that way. It wasn't her way, really, to make unnecessary fusses.

"And it's fine. You're not prying."

Saying it aloud made it easier. Strangely, she hadn't actually told anyone before, though the opportunity to tell Andrew had come up a few times the day before. She just hadn't mentioned it. She hadn't wanted to think about it.

"If you don't ask, you won't know. It's not like you can read minds, I hope?" This last she said with a smile.

Do you want to finish this and do a separate RP for the lesson or just pretend like it happened etcetera?

"Ah. A thief. No, I can't read minds... Although after I get to know you better, which I'm presuming I shall, I'll get a pretty good idea of what's going on in that head of yours." He replied with a smile just as his first load finished. Rather than putting the wet clothes in a dryer, he dumped to heavy bundle in a basket and sighed.

"I may not be able to read minds, but I don't think the loss of money was your fault, was it? Either way, I 'spose it doesn't matter. Next time try and set your goals higher than a mere truck stop, if you haven't already." He added looking her over a few times before looking down at Raeli who was flashing a smile to the younger creature.

"Sorry... I'm probably the worst person to be getting job advice from. I just... think you could be something more. If you wish, I can pay for Raeli's lessons." he continued after a few seconds of silence. Finch sometimes had a habit of speaking before thinking, especially when he was in dire need of fresh blood.

{{Whatever you prefer. I'm good with any option.}}

Genevieve was a little bit offended that he would think she would take money for tutoring. That was part of her problem. She saw most of her skills as either necessary or unnecessary, and if they were necessary she felt like it was a gyp to charge for them. She ought to take him up on the offer, though.

"Don't be ridiculous," she said. "There's no charge for people I like. Of course, if you're dedicated to the idea of paying, you can try to make me dislike you."

As for setting her goals higher...There hadn't been any choice. When she was looking for jobs as a fourteen year old, there weren't that many places willing to hire someone so young. Izzy's had been the only place, actually, and she and her mother had needed the money badly.

"I probably could be something more," she mused, and then smirked. "For instance, I could work for one of the laundry services, with my awesome laundering skills."

Truly, her skills were all of a practical nature. She wouldn't make a bad housekeeper, but having been born and raised in America, she couldn't quite reconcile herself to a position of such total subservience and servitude. A number of her friends' families, back when she'd had friends, had kept housekeepers and cooks and gardeners, and mostly ignored them completely. Genevieve couldn't live with being a part of the scenery.

"Or," she continued, "I could sit on the corner and make up haiku for money. Example:
Capitalism
requires that I work, but I
have no useful skills.
"

"Or, maybe:
I could work in the
service industry, but I
don't like most people.
"

"What do you think?" she asked, turning to look at Finch. "Poet or laundress?"

Dragul, thinking that Genevieve had addressed her, blew a wet raspberry of disapproval. Or maybe it was approval. The action was actually kind of ambiguous, coming from Dragul.

I vote that we open a new RP, so I can start RPing Dragul as a Corsea.

Finch chuckled, carelessly not hiding his fangs. He was to comfortable around her now. "If you knew the me I know, you probably wouldn't like me. I don't even like me." He said standing himself up. All signs of his ill appearance had somehow vanished within the last few seconds. He seemed more alive and energetic than he had before even coming here.

"I don't really want you to go to all the trouble of teaching him for nothing." he added explaining why he'd offered and hinting that he probably wasn't going to take 'no' for an answer.
"Laundress sounds queer. like; Lawn dress. If you want to be a dress created from a lawn, be my guest. Poets don't make a lot of money. They usually have to die first. I'm sure you could find something interesting. And I'm sure you have skills that you aren't even aware of." He said still smiling as he took a step closer to her.

"A dress made of lawn? Sound's like something Jynelle would wear..." Reali muttered before giggling at Dragul's raspberry. It was a strange little gesture to see the goblin perform.

{{Okee. Sounds good.}}
