I don't the like death penalty. Just like [heart attack] said, killing the murderer for the murder doesn't really make sense to me. I mean, sure, raping a child is really really just wrong and sad, but I don't think they just need to die. Unless it can't be handled in any other way, then so be it.

Tricky tricky subject.

I have my doubts about the death penalty. We can never say people "deserve" to die because none of us know exactly what happens after death.

Also, who knows how many innocent people have been accidentally death penalty'd D:

As much as I'd like to see child rapists (ESPECIALLY repeat offenders) rot in jail for the rest of their years, it's not realistic to say we should keep all of them in there for life. I recently remember hearing that more of our tax dollars are going to jails than to schools.

I have never been with death penalty.

We're human. Other peoples lives aren't ours to take. I don't even think we have the right to take our OWN lives.

I don't mean this in a Godly sense or a religious one, but I mean it in a genuine human governing law-sense.

Murder = illegal + wrong
Death penalty = premeditated murder
Death penalty = wrong

It's pretty simple when you think about no exceptions to the rules. Besides, there are things worse than death out there.

my gut reaction is to want to kill them, of course.

that Couey guy that raped and killed Jessica Lunsford makes my skin crawl, and i would never want anybody like that on the loose.

but are we sure, completely 100% sure, that the people we convict are guilty?

the Innocence Project run by Illinois law students http://www.innocenceproject.org/about/ has freed hundreds of convicts from death row, by using DNA evidence. prosecutors, judges and juries agreed they were guilty and should die, but they were all wrong, and the DNA proved it.

a couple dozen had even confessed, but were still completely innocent (there is great psychological pressure applied to force a confession).

so since we can't be sure we are killing the guilty and not the innocent, i would just give them a life sentence without possibility of parole.

that way i won't risk having innocent blood on my conscience.
