Ofelia looked up at the woman and jumped up. She dusted off her pants and wiped away her look of disgust. From the looks of the woman who had just approached her, she would exactly understand Ofelia's feelings. Then again, you never do know...

"Um, hello -" The young woman didn't really understand why this woman was starting up conversation. She look familiar, however Ofelia couldn't place her. For a moment she watched the woman pull at her sash, before continuing on.

"I'm Ofelia." She held out her hand for the woman to shake. As she stood there, Ofelia couldn't help but take in the details of the woman. She had already noticed the womans turqoise sash, and she couldn't help notice it again, and think to herself, If she keeps pulling at that end she will unravel the whole sash.... She took in her blonde hair, and her icey blue eyes, also taking a moment to survey her vest with a small jab of envy.

"Name's Sera," greeted the aforementioned, shaking Ofelia's hand with a nod and a grin. "I'm the captain of the Spelljammer..." -- she motioned vaguely towards the boat with one hand -- "... and I've seen you workin' at the tavern. So anyway, we'll settin' off soon towards Sadal Suud and then to Diadem. The first bit won't be long, but the second part might take a while, so we'll be needin' someone who knows what they're doin' in a kitchen."

Of course, there was no immediate use for Ofelia: firstly, there was very little food still in the hold plus, it was probably not smelling too great at this point), but Sera figured that they could pick up some extra nourishment and equipment while still in Sadal Suud; secondly, the ship's mess kitchen, while existant below deck, was small and almost never used. It wasn't as if she couldn't go tell Ofelia to occupy herself otherwise until the necessary things were procured, but still...

"Simple enough journey, and the profits'll be fine," Sera said, intentionally interrupting her own thoughts. "Shouldn't be too rough, not much... competition 'round here. You up to it?"

Kersi, while wishing to encourage Sera in her begrudged "good deed", kept quiet. Judging by Ofelia's demeanor and the (so far) contrasting coloration of her wings, they were probably fairly sensitive to the nuances of her personality.... at least more prone to change than Sera, who actually had recieved much of her colour from the Spirit. And people like that tended to be able to hear spirits more readily. Of course, she could always be wrong, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

Ofelia listened to the proposition, at first not understanding what was going on. She stared at her own feet, slightly confused as she listened.

"Simple enough journey, and the profits'll be fine. Shouldn't be too rough, not much... competition 'round here. You up to it?" Sera said. Ofelia looked up at that, realization dawning on her face, along with excitement. This woman, whom she had never really met before, was offering her a job, on a boat! Ofelia wanted nothing more than to jump up and down like a child. Instead she cleared her throat, to find a voice to speak with.

"That would be wonderful! Of course I'm up to it. " Her eyes were bright as she spoke. The young woman resisted the urge to turn back to her melancholy reflection and snap her fingers at it. Things were turning around, and looked as though she wouldn't have any more problems in the money department for quite some time.

She looked towards the boat the Sera had gestured to, and took everything in. The name 'Spelljammer' had struck a bell, of course. This was the boat that everyone said was haunted. Ofelia had never actually met/seen/heard a ghost before, but that was no reason to keep her away from this one. If there was one.

"I have nothing to pack or take with me, so we could leave now. That's what it looks like you wanted to do anyway..." She trailed off, still looking at the ship, not at Sera.

((Yay! x3

This post'll be mediocre, probably. Considering the fact that I have very little time to write it at the moment...))

"The sooner the better," laughed Sera, also truning towards the vessel. "Dont worry too much about experience... If you've yet to get your air legs, this journey'd be good for you. Nothing tricky."

They would be flying over the poisonous Taintclouds, but, Ocean willing, they wouldn't get close. The paths they were to travel were ones that had been traveled for years, they were fairly clear of debris from such use; plus, they offered the chance for lots of free time. Kaethe seemed to be rather competant (he probably had the most experience among the jobbing sailors), so she might ask him to take the helm while supervising the newcomer until she was confident in Ofelia's ability to work alone.

As Sera began walking towards the Spelljammer, she summoned her wings with a purple lambency. With a few laboured wingbeats, the woman managed to escape the ground and descend upon the deck of the boat, where she took a moment to survey what was happening.

"Everything all right so far?" she raised her voice and asked nobody in particular, walking alongside the railing and kicking a few coils of rope out of the way. She came the the shroud, blackened with soil from rough hands climbing it, and followed its length with her eyes to the top of the mast, squinting against the sunlight.

(ooo gaia SO just ate my post)

"Are we there yet?" A voice answered from above as the figure of Kaethe dropped down to the deck beside her. "Wait, wrong question er... What've you got in the way of grub on this ship? Do the provisions need restocking at all?"

Though he still smelled of stale alcohol, he no longer seemed particularly intoxicated. His eyes flashed with a smile as he caught sight of the waitress who seemed to be following Sera onto the ship. "And, have we got enough crew now? Not to sound impatient but uh... Well you had good timing. There might be a few people upset with me in town at the moment."

A bit of an understatement, but he didn't have to give everything away to his new captain did he? Keep some sort of air of mystery and whatnot. The roguish grin looked sheepish for a briefest of moments and he reached up to run a hand through the few days worth of stubble on his chin and cheeks.

He had apparently climbed the rigging without the aide of his mechanical wings, as they were still neatly folded upon his back, difficult to make out what they really looked like at the moment. The red-wings had not bothered to give him anymore difficulties, simply going about the ship checking for any damage that might have happened in the harbor or on it's last journey.

"And last of all, do I get my own room?" The plaintive note of a child entered his voice again, this time he was definitely joking. Dark brows rose over his eyes as he turned his head at an angle to be looking up at her in the perfect imitation of a puppy asking for a treat.

((Poor Dorobo))

Ofelia copied Sera, summoning and landing on the deck of the boat next to her. However she didn't see a real need to follow Sera all around the ship, so when she walked away Ofelia stayed rooted to the spot. She had been on a ship only twice before, but nothing compared to this. On those ships she was a guest, spending most of her time in her quarters. Here on the Spelljammer she was the cook. And she would do her best to serve the crew the best meals they'd ever eaten on a pirate ship. Sure she wasn't going to be serving anything super fancy like a crowned roast, but wholesome was something special too.

The young woman finally remember her wings, and they vanished again in their green glow. She slowly turned in a circle, examining the ship as best one can from one spot. It certainly was an impressive ship. And kind of menacing too. But as far as she could tell, not haunted. Of course she had only been there for a few minutes at most, but she hadn't seen a ghost, she hadn't felt an awkward chill, and she hadn't heard any voices. If there was a ghost, it wasn't around at the moment, or it wasn't bothering her.

Having taken in about as much as there was to look at and take in from that spot, she walked up to where Sera and Kaethe stood. She stopped next to Sera just as Kaethe asked for his own room, and put on his puppy face. Ofelia smiled at his expression, laughing quietly as well.

However one could say that it was a valid question. And now Ofelia was curious too. She knew absolutely nothing about what her life was to be like on this boat, except for the fact that a large part of it belonged in the kitchen. Her curiousity visible on her face she turned to Sera.

"I was wondering almost the same thing," She said, her smile creeping back.

(( Sorry if there's any errors in this one, I lack a spellchecker... ))

Kaethe looked up, puppy expression completely dissapearing as he was distracted from his plight. Expressive eyes looked at her a moment, one brow cocking slightly as that boying smile attempted to creep back onto his lips.

Straightening, he assumed a perfect casual expression as he looked down at Ofelia, taller than her once he was no longer trying to look smaller and more pathetic than he actually was. "I can understand your concern, kitten, if I get my own room. But don't you think perhaps we ought to get to know one another first?" He smiled, instantly debonaire and slipping into a rather heroic looking pose.

In fact, if it wasn't for the stubble of a few days along with the resulting smell on his body and clothing that drinking without bathing had left upon him, he could have looked quite striking. If anything, he looked a bit rediculous.

Cocking an eyebrow and grinning at Kaethe's comical impatience, Sera was soon forced to fully consider the initial provisions. In the bluntest, barest way possible... there weren't that many. But they were sealed within Magnus, making them appear far less voluminous than they actualy were... and there weren't many people to feed. Plus, the fact that the initial trip was fairly short led her to believe that they would hold out.

"We've got enough food," Sera concluded. "Only need enough for two meals anyway, we'll hit Sadal Suud 'fore nightfall... even if we might be a tad understaffed."

Noticing suddenly that she had been joined by the newest of the recruits and that Kaethe's attention had been drawn towards her, Sera rolled her eyes. Shameless. Although, she had to let a bit of a smile onto her face.

"Just for that," she quipped playfully, "you're gettin' the graveyard shift on the second leg, Kaethe. If you're gonna to do anything, it'll be on land. Ofelia, you won't have to head to the kitchen right away, 'less you want to check it out. We're gonna get goin', so... try to stay out of the way 'til someone can teach you what to do. I woudl, but I'll have my hands full."

Sera chuckled and turned towards the wheel at the stern, hesitating to whisper seriously as she passed by Ofelia: "If any of the men give you any real trouble, tell me." She knew the trials of being a female sailor in a primarily male-dominated field; thankfully, she had never gotten in any grave trouble, but she had come fairly close on more than one occasion. Then again, Ofelia had been a waitress in a tavern. Perhaps she knew how to cope with such men a little better than Sera had initially.

She arrived and placed her hands on the wheel with some reminiscing, closing her eyes for a moment. Kersi, who, to this point, had been forced into silent observation by company, made herself known: "W-e-l-l?"

In response, Sera whistled loudly and shouted: "All right, everyone! Lower the sails and let's got goin'!"

As the three redwinged sailors set to work, Sera watched with satisfaction as the ivory sails dropped from the mast, quickly becoming impregnated with the wanton wind and lurching the ship into motion. She braced herself against the slight rocking of the boat as she steered the ship away from the docks and towards the open sky.

Startled by Kaethe's remark Ofelia blushed slightly, whilst trying not to laugh at him. It wasn't that she had never encountered this sort of thing, she was used to it, but she hadn't been expecting it here. But men were men, and nothing would ever change that. She had opened her mouth to make a reply, when Sera spoke, assigning Kaethe the graveyard shift. When Sera turned to her, Ofelia did nothing but nod, she understood that she was inexperienced and was more than glad to stay out of the way until she knew what it was she was doing.

"Thank you, I'll be sure to let you know though I think that I won't have many troubles." Ofelia replied, also whispering to Sera. After all the young woman had worked in a tavern. Waitressing, cooking, sometimes playing bartender to earn some extra cash.

Ofelia turned away from the captain, and started walking towards a door that she assumed led to the kitchen. But as soon as she opened it her nose was assaulted with the smell of rotting food. Her eyes started to water slightly, and she held her breath as she looked around. As far as she could tell the culprits were some leftover vegetables that were in the far corner, out of the way. Instead of venturing in further Ofelia shut the door and took a deep breath of clean air. She wasn't brave enough to go venturing in to a kitchen like that. Most likely there was some evil ghoul living under the sink, empowered by the stench, waiting to gobble her up.

Instead she stood, leaning against the door, trying to stay out of the way, and bracing herself as the sails caught the wind. It was a pretty sight, sailing away from land, through the air to places that Ofelia had never before seen. It would be fun.

"Aye aye Cap'n!" Spinning on his heel the youth considered following Ofelia a moment, then changed his mind. Likely she’d have any number of "suitors" in the next short time, for she was the only female aboard. Not counting the Captain of course, but likely Sera would be considered a female above females during the time she had control over the sailors. If she lost that control at any point... well Kaethe knew where he stood on that.

Night shift, eh? His eyes flicked momentarily toward Sera once more, then he turned on his heel and found a corner of the deck to settle into. Might as well be in the way as much as he could manage if she wasn’t going to give him quarters until his turn on the deck started. Stretching long, lanky legs in front of him, Kaethe settled to his current job. Sleep.

One hand reached up and pulled the hood down over his eyes, carefully positioned so he might see the deck around his legs. In a real fight that wasn’t enough room or warning for effective maneuvering, but this was supposed to be friendly territory. For now. Sparing a single glance in the direction of Sera, the pirate settled into his position with a bit of a smile on his lips.

It felt good to be in the air again. A yawn caused the hood to move slightly, one leg crossing over the other to almost trip one of the redwings. Kaethe didn't move, and the sailor just moved on, grumbling beneath his breath as he did so. The smile deepened momentarily eyes closing over finally. Yes, it was indeed going to be an interesting journey. Either tonight or the next he might have to prove himself against a redwing or two, but better now that wait until they had formed their own bonds between one another.

Slowly, the hooded head bobbed lower against his chest, winglets butted against the wall. Difficult to tell if he really had fallen asleep on the deck so swiftly and easily, but if he was not it was a truly convincing charade. One hand lolled off from where it hand been crossed against his chest, falling limply to the deck.

"I'm sorry to say it." Said one of the men that was on Marcos' building crew. "But we don't have enough engine parts. We could get the entire frame built for the ship and all the decks in between that you requested, but we couldn't build the engines for the thing. After all, what are you going to name her, Marcos?" The man asked.

"I'm not really sure yet, amigo. But I'm thinkin' about it." He sighed. He had no real way to acquire engine parts without a huge hassle. "Tell you what. I'll leave you in charge of the building crew while I'm gone. I want all the decks, hull, everything except the engines done and ready for the engines to be put in place." He said, standing up from his stool he had upon the docks.

He stared at the unpainted hull of the ship he had yet to name. "By the way." Marcos said. "If you've got any paint, paint it ... blue." He said. "Dark blue." Marcos decided. "With some colour trim. I don't know. Make it look good." He decided, and then his metal wings that were always attatched to him unfolded. "Where's a transport ship?" Marcos asked.

"Let's see..." The man turned around. "Well, this last one here is heading to Anuenue once it departs." Marcos blinked with his good eye. "When does it depart?" "In about... oohh... five minutes." Already the sails were dropping and the wind was catching them.

Marcos sighed. He wouldn't take the ship. Anuenue wasn't exactly renknowned for its engine parts anyways. He would've taken one to Alfard instead...

"Well, we'll just have to wait until something else comes along." Marcos said, sitting down and making his wings fold up behind him with but a thought.

He crossed his arms and looked up at the ship. "Well, fetch us some blue paint, amigo... maybe some gold trim... or bronze-ish..." He began to think. "Yeah..."

"And get me a name plate. A cobalt one." He told the man, who went to it.

He came back ten minutes later with a nameplate. It was rather large, of course, as most needed to be so ships could be identified without squinting too much. Marcos took it, and went off to the privacy of his garage to name the ship...

((There're a couple characters waiting on Sadal Suud, so... time warp, I guess. >_>))

It had been a few uneventful hours into the trip, just after the lookout alerted land, when Sera first noticed it: the lightest of pulls towards starboard at the ship's wheel; then, glancing quickly at the sails, the tiny disproportion between their satiation and the speed at which the Spelljammer flew. She frowned thoughtfully, tightening her grip. Great. Just what they needed.

"What is it?" Kersi asked, coming out of boredom with concern. One of the three brotherly sailors hesitated as he passed by with a coil of rope, glanced around quickly, and continued on his way before Sera answered.

"Drag." Sera's azure eyes stared into the likeness of the Sky as she whispered in response. "Means we got a breach in the hull, something must'a hit the ship below my line of sight. It's slowing us down and pulling us to starboard."

"So it's not good, then."

"Not at all... thank the Ocean for small blessings though; we're nearly there. I can see Sadal Suud." Sera paused, looking at the growing island. She could barely makeout Pherkad, the city of stone, at the top of a small moutain textured green with trees. "I don't think the engines we have'd be enough to get the sidewings going for long, not in the state they're in. An' we don't have enough manpower to work them manually, either, so..."

"If the wind dies," Kersi said, chuckling, "we're helpless." Sera, once more coming close to being caught talking to herself, simply gave a quick affirmative nod. "Don't worry," Kersi laughed knowingly. "It won't."
