And there he had it, agreement to listen. What more could a stallion want? Well, aside of an agreement to the request, but that wasn't an option at the moment.

So he was still grinning as he moved Zoet's way, flapping his wings as he jumped to cover the distance in one easy stride and land beside her. "Oh, I'm ready for you, Zoet, believe me. Now then, about this dancing..."

Make a fool of himself for the chance to get to know her better. It was a fair trade.

She bobbed her head at him with a smile of greeting, then nosed him slightly to position him where she wanted him, directly beside her, his chest even with hers. "Now... let's see if you can match my stride." She lengthed her strides, but didn't increase her speed. The rhythm was steady, perhaps just a touch slow, but she felt it was necessary for him to have a chance to fall in sync with her.

"Each hoof needs to hit at the same time as mine... same hoof, same moment," she instructed. Her tone was business-like, but did not lack warmth. "Listen to my rhythm... feel it." Her voice dropped lower, so that their hoofbeats became the most noticable sound. "Let it take over. One-two-three, one-two-three, one-two-three...." She kept an eye on his as she murmured, a glaem of contented enchantment glowing therein.

Amused as he was, Antony couldn't shake the feeling of complete and utter ridiculousness that accompanied him trying to follow Zoet's movements. While used to dwarfing the mares of his acquaintance (stallions too, actually, barring Ariston and his brother Nic), he wasn't usually trying to engage in synchronized walking with them. If his friend Dodger saw him now, he'd never hear the end of it...

But Dodge WASN'T here now, and Tony had made an agreement. Although his movements were rather jerky and clumsy, he was trying. In fact, he was not only trying, he was counting along! "One-two-three, one-two-three..." Or was he? "So-Sil-ly, so-sil-ly..." Chuckling, he could see the ridiculous side of this exercise much clearer than anything else!

While the massive stallion (she hadn't realized just how big he was until he was next to her... and she was no miniature herself!) began to match his rhythm to hers, she'd forgotten one major detail to this exercise. It took her some time to realize it, so caught up in the actual rhythm as she was. They had rounded the corner and were aiming for one of the jumps... but he wasn't beside her.

Oh, his hoofbeats were more or less synched with her own. That much he was mostly succeeding in. But his legs were so much longer, he was taking normal strides for his large size, and it was carrying him farther and farther ahead of her. She realized it as she focused to prepare him for the liftoff point, some ways ahead. Except as she came to herself, he was already at that point.

"Wait, watch out!" she called too late, knowing his momentum would carry him crashing into the brush that formed the jump. She winced guiltily as she realized what would happen, since he hadn't gone airborne in time. She broke into a canter to catch up with the poor guy.

This was silly. He FELT silly. And he had no grace, none atall. But sometimes, one just had to live and let live, deal with situations as they arose, et cetera et cetera. At the moment, that meant at least making an effort to pull off the (in its own way) complicated motions of the dance. He just needed to concentrate.

Although there WAS such a thing as too much concentration.

He was so focused on his feet and not tangling up that he hadn't realized he'd gotten away from Zoet. As a result, he didn't realize that there were any jumps involved, any jumps in his immeadiate proximity...

Well, not until he literally ran into one. "Augh!"

She stifled a giggle, though a gasp did escape her, before she galloped to catch up to him, where he was entangled in one of her makeshift jumps. "Oh dear, I'm terribly sorry," she rushed to apologize. "Are you alright?"

Using her teeth she pulled branches out of the way, and sometimes outright snapped off twigs that were clearly poking in uncomfy places. It wasn't long before he was free of the mess, though the obstacle was in shambles and would be no good for jumping any longer. She spared not a glance for the poor abused bush, but instead gazed anxiously at the stallion.

"Are you sure you are alright?" Nevermind that it was unlikely a little collision with a bush would bother such a large soquili, much less one with kalona blood. She still was concerned, feeling it was her own fault for not realizing his strides would take him that far from her so quickly. "I guess you were right, that this isn't your thing." Her tone was slightly dejected, since her insistance he try it ended in this disaster.

Well, this was certainly awkward, or rather it WAS. Big or not, having sharp little twigs poking into one's joints was hardly an enjoyable experience, so Tony was more than pleased to feel the last twig's removal. "Well then..."

With overly exaggerated caution, he stepped away from the now-pitiful looking bush, running his wings over his body to brush away the last lingering traces of the unfortunate collision. "So...that's dancing, then? Sorry, Zoet, but I think I'm going to leave it for the professionals a bit longer. Some of us just aren't meant to be graceful."

Still, it was with a wide grin that he spoke those words, the amusement and silliness of the whole situation much more prominant than any pain he'd experienced. Though Zoet's concern on his behalf was nice, he had to set the record straight. "Of course I'm alright; I've taken more abuse than that from my siblings. It was just a bit of a surprise, that's all." A polite way to say it, considering how much he had smarted at first upon realizing that he was tangled in a shrub. "But at least I tried to say that I can't, right? That's something."

Of course he was fine, and she was being silly. She gave him a wry and suddenly somewhat shy smile. The moonlight gleamed brightly on his pale coat, and she felt oddly self-concious. Totally forgotten were his frightening fangs and intimidating kalona wings. Instead, she became acutely aware of him as an individual. A rather jovial individual at that, and handsome in his own way.

To cover her awkwardness with her own mood shift, she shook her head, dislodging a twig or two that had clung to her mane. This conveniently tumbled her thick forelock over her face and across her eyes. She cleared her throat and asked in a bantering tone, "So, we made an agreement. You tried dancing, and now I'm going to listen." She tipped her head and watched him with one eye from between her locks. "What is your suggestion?"

For a second, Antony merely stared at Zoet, then suddenly he broke into a short bit of laughter. To be totally honest, he'd actually forgotten about their little bargain during the course of his 'dance', but now that she'd reminded him the thoughts came rushing back. "That's right, we really did, didn't we? And you remember the terms; no kicking, biting, or otherwise doing anything untoward and pain-inducing as a result of said suggestion."

Grinning, Antony stepped cloer to Zoet, running a couple of the spikes of his wings through her mane, pulling it back so that her face was more visible. "You really have gorgeous eyes, Zoet; you shouldn't hide them, even unintentionally. Though I do have to admit that there's a certain mystique in NOT seeing your face...but I digress. Suggestion."

Clearing his throat, Antony then tilted his head at Zoet and gave her his most charming, heart-melting smile, one of the few mannerism's he'd managed to take on from his father. "I was thinking, Zoet, that you're a fun, witty, amusing, and utterly delightful mare with a body that won't quit...and that I'd love it if you'd give me leave to get to know the body a bit better."

Just to make sure that there was no confusion, Antony allowed his wingtip to slide lightly along Zoet's jaw, a teasing gesture designed to titilate. If there was ANY doubts now as to what he meant, well...he'd be surprised, to put it mildly.

She froze as he stepped near, touching her in what was clearly not a brotehrly fashion. Her eyes were quite huge, staring at him as he commented on them. And then he made his suggestion.

"M-m-my b-b-b," and then a swift instake of breath as he again touched her. "Body?" she squeaked then. She was definitely out of her element now, for sure and for certain. Rather than feeling like a young mare with a handsome stallion, she began to tremble and feel like a child in an unknown situation.

"I.... I..... I....," she stammered. She stumbled to a halt and continued to stare at him helplessly. "I...," she tried again, "am... uh," and now she blused clear from her hooves to the tips of her hears, though it would not really show under the moonlight. In fact, the moon had nearly hidden behind the branches of the nearby trees surrounding them.

She tucked her chin in embarassment and lowered her ears tot he side. "I know nothing about what you suggest, Tony." She heaved a deep breath and let it out slow. At the moment her shock was great enough it hadn't crossed her mind to decide whether it was something she wanted or not herself... all she was thinking in that moment was that she wasn't what he thought, and was not what he really wanted.

Antony could tell rather easily that his suggestion had taken her off-guard. Though he didn't have his father's gift for 'reading' mares, Zoet's shock was so exaggerated that even a blind stallion would be able to tell what she was feeling. At least she hadn't tried to kick him...

And honestly, it was a rather endearing reaction, especially when she attempted to curl up. Shock was expected, but flat-out rejection was something he'd been expecting over 'I'm not knowledgable'. Perhaps there was hope for this situation yet.

Angling his head down so that he wasn't 'looming' quite as much, Antony gently tried to get Zoet to lift her head and look at him. "I'm sorry if I caught you off-guard, Zoet, but I really AM serious. Your experience or lack thereof are hardly something that you should be upset about, or I should be upset about, or should affect anything. I'm thick-skinned, I can accept rejection if that's what you're trying to convey. But really...I don't care. After all, how are you going to learn if you don't try, right? You migth even find you like it. Or me. Or some combination thereof."

Ah, that was a silly explanation; he was far too blunt to ever be truly 'touching'. "That is to say, if you don't want to, that's really your call, but I'd love it if you'd at least consider." Then he leaned close and nuzzled her gently, rubbing his nose against her neck. "Please."

She blinked. Was he... babbling? His rambling and slightly confusing oration helped to resettle her and clear her mind of the dizzying spin of emotion. It almost sounded like he wasn't entirely sure what he was trying to say. But one thing was clear that he did want. And it was now just as clear what she wanted.

"While you may have a point, about not knowing until I try," she began, shaking her forelock out of her eyes to better meet his. "And while your offer is quite...," she paused with an amused twist of her mouth, "generous, shall we say?" She whickered a laugh that carried not hint of mockery. "I believe that finding out what that's like is best left to the one stallion who will want me and only me for the rest of our lives."

She gazed at him with a thoughtful and penetrating gaze. "I don't think that's anything like what you would want, though." She tipped her head, flicking her ears. "Everyone deserves happiness, even if it's their own brand of happiness. So I'm sorry if our happinesses don't match, Tony. But I do wish you the best with your... uh... happiness." She almost, though not quite, managed to say that with a straight face. The corners of her mouth pulled determinedly though, and she finally had to break into a giggle.

It wasn't that he wasn't handsome. He was, in his own spiky and charming way. But a stallion that was going to just come up and ask for that sort of thing... well, she figured she hadn't a chance in the world of them choosing to be bound to her. And she did believe very strongly that such pleasures should be for her mate alone. After her giggle died, she sighed softly. She really hadn't thought much about a mate before, but now... well, now she was forced to wonder if there really was that one special person for her. Surely there must be?

Well, one can't really be upset with an arguement like that. "Fair enough, Zoet; hopefully you have suitable luck finding this one stallion, though I doubt you'll have a problem. You've got personality, after all, and are cute to boot."

Grinning, he gave her cheek one last caress, then stepped back so that she could have a little space. Such a nice mare, so determined to let him down politely. He' take that over a kick in the knees any day.

"So, dancing in the moonlight; is that a nightly occurance with you, or was tonight a special occassion?"

Perhaps it seemed like a random subject change, but there was no intent behind it. Having asked his question and gotten his answer, there was no point to dwell. He wasn't his father, tied up in the allure of sex and the thrill of the hunt. No, it was time to move on. And he enjoyed talking to Zoet!
PostPosted: Fri Sep 14, 2007 11:48 am

A very tiny part of her winced painfully at being let go so easily. A girl does like to be pursued, after all. But she knew it wasn't his way, and was soemwhat grateful as the subject matter passed to more comfortable topics.

"No and no," she laughed, answering both his inquiries. "It isn't a nightly thing, nor is it a special occasion." She smiled sweetly and gazed up at the now moonless sky, the stars twinkling and winking down at her. "I only do it when the mood strikes me. Tonight was so lovely, and there was a song in my hooves and my head." With eyes shining, she lowered her gaze back to him, smiling from within. "I just had to come express it all on my own. It's my special thing, I guess."

She suddenly grinned mischeviously and spoke saucily. "Other than your obvious favorite pastime, what do you like to do, Tony?" She smirked a bit and resisted the urge to n** him for good measure. He was a very companionable individual to have around. It warmed her heart to think she had just made a friend... despite having solidly rejected him as a lover. Didn't that happen seldom? she'd heard that somewhere, though she hadn't the faintest clue where from.

Even if Tony had known that easy acceptance hurt of rejection, things probably wouldn't be that different. It just wasn't in his nature to hammer on points once passed, and he just didn't have enough attachment to the concept to fight it. Besides, no is no, right?

So he was more than happy to let the conversation meander as it was, returning her grin with an impish smile. "Well, I'm honored that I got to see this special thing; in spite of my personal botched attempts, it was fun to watch. And other than the obvious, I enjoy a lot of things. I'm a rover, and I like meeting people as I go along, experiencing new things, all that whatnot. I'm big fan of flying, and I've been known to take advantage of a slow river from time to time. What about you?"
