____ Hammon hopped off of his horse, seeming all too delighted to be on his own two feet again and showing his total incapacity to hide as much. He hitched the horses to opposite sides of a tree and saw to their feed, and once he was satisfied that they would not fight, he took to unpacking them.
____ He looked to clear a spot for Anth to sit first and brought her a wineskin with a bow, and then gathered up a pile of leaves and twigs, which he took flint and steel to before scampering merrily about in an effort to find larger branches to add to the stack and stripping off odd bits of armor at the brief pauses between scamperings. It wasn't long before he had produced a nice fire, reduced his wardrobe to a pair of threadbare shorts, and placed a few slabs of peppered beef on sticks tilted toward the fire; they were supposed to be rations and didn't need cooking, but they were certainly better warm. Even in Hammon's simple thoughts, good food made perfect sense.
____ Hammon took to pitching a tent while the food warmed over the fire. It ended up a lean-to facing the fire, but that was a greater success than a normal tent, by Hammon's reckoning, and he scampered back to the fire and sat down next to Anth with what might be percieved as a bit of a sliding stop before plucking the sticks out of the ground and holding them out to Anth with the rest of the rations cupped together in their wrappings. He half-smiled, hoping that he'd impressed. "M'lady..."

Anth smiled back. She hadn't had to do any work, which suited her, and she wasn't expecting rations to taste like any thing but. Although she was in a foul mood from all the hard traveling, his pampering softened the edge on that. "Hammon," she said matter of factly, "goodness only knows why your last mistress sold you." Some women preferred their slaves to be a bit brighter, but Hammon's resemblance to a rock fit Anth's picture of the perfect slave. Just smart enough to follow orders.

Anth devoured the beef hastily, not worried that Hammon might judge her like another woman might.

____ Hammon might have blushed if his skin wasn't too dark to let it show. He ran a hand over the top of his head and bowed slightly. "I think I made her mad. Sometimes I'd talk and she'd crinkle her face up and rub her forehead..." he nearly mumbled, appending quickly, "I'm very glad that I please you."
____ He glanced sideways and then back to the horses before he scooted back and dug some hard tack out of one of the bags and pulled himself back next to Anth, chewing on his food with some difficulty while being unable to shake the hunch that he was doing something wrong.

"Of course you please me," she snorted. "You do what I ask, don't you?" And for Anth, it usually was as simple as that. She leaned against him as she wiped at her face with a handkerchief, all the tack that he had given her consumed. "If I wasn't so tired," she sighed wistfully, but she was, and would not be putting up with any fooling around for too long that night.
