I do a bit of both. If I'm not sure I'll like a book I borrow it from the library to try it out. If it's an author I like I just buy it. I think I prefer to buy books - I like to hoard them for a rainy day...

Buy, buy, buy. It might be because I don't read as great a volume as most of you (I still love reading though), however, I believe it's because I enjoy being able to return to a book without wondering whether a friend has it, or a library has a copy available, etc.

I borrow books that I'm not so sure about, but I buy the ones that I really really like. My friends and I also have a trading system worked out, so it's all good.

I prefer to buy my books because I usually read them over and over again. People tend to not care much for library books so they get damaged, but I'll check them out any way. My friends an I all keep our books in really good condition.
Of course, my paperbacks tend to get frayed edges so I have to tape them down. sweatdrop Luckily I'll never sell my books!

Library. I live really close to one and it's easy to get books when I want them. And they're free! xd The bookstore is further away. If I really like the book I'll buy it later because I know I'll enjoy it.

I buy a lot of my book, especially when I find a really good deal at a bookstore, yard sale, thrift store, etc.

i like to go to the library and get books...but i prefer to own them. i tend to read books more than once so having then on hand is a nice necessity.. also if i once checked out the same books so many times in a row that they just gave it to me. eek mrgreen

I'll borrow from the library if I'm unsure about it or if it's the only way to read an out of print book. If I like it, I'll then buy it when I can. I'll also borrow if it's a hardback and my budget calls for paperback,

I like having the option of being able to borrow a book if I don't have the money to buy it right away. It gives me a chance to at least read it and then give thought "Did I like that book? I think I did. I will buy it." It's nice to be able to borrow when you can't really get it. Normally I borrow books from friends, though I do have a library card and borrow from them on occasions.
I do like buying books though for rereading purposes. ^^

Borrowing is nice becasue you dont spend money, but then if you really like the book its nice to own it, especially fro me since i write fanfiction and i need to refer back to the book a lot.

I visit my local library once a week and then check out every book that seems interesting that I run into (up to eight books - more isn't allowed). Then, once I notice that I've borrowed one book in particular over three times and still haven't gotten enough of it, I browse local bookstores to find it and buy it when I do.
Of course, there are also times when I pass by the bookstore on my way home and hop in for a minute or two to check out if they've got any new stuff. I can't help but end up buying five books on those occasions. I really shouldn't, because I'm quite poor, but if there's one thing I can't resist, it is books.

I'm very odd. I like to own books, but anything I own usually NEVER gets read. So I have a large collection of books I like to stroke and gaze at, but haven't found time to read. Mostly I just take books out of the library. I tend to buy books used, at festivals, used library sales - dirt cheap is often my philosophy. Though, if I really want to read something, and it's pretty new, I either go to the store and read it, or purchase it at the store. I have even pretended to get gifts just to swap one book for another. sweatdrop I haven't done that in awhile though.

I check out books all the time from the library, but I do buy books on a regular basis. They're usually books I've already read and really liked, but every now and then I'll take a chance and buy a book I've never read before. I love owning books, but my money can't keep up with my reading habits, so a library works.
However, in reverse, I don't like to lend out books. I'm so O.C.D about the condition my books are in. sweatdrop I will dig through all available copies of a book at the store and compare so that I'm sure I'm getting the best condition possible.
