I'm the same age, but they don't teach it in school. I did get a cool Japanese language book, though. "Japanese in MangaLand" if anybody's interested. ninja

I took japanese in college last year...and I am already getting rusty sweatdrop need to keep practicing!

But ya I recomend to everyone to try and learn the language.
It is challanging, but very interesting and fun, such a beautiful language! heart

Well I am currently teaching myself how to speak and write japanese because I have a phrasebook. I know a few words and I sometimes mimic words from watching Sailor Moon. I also can sing japanese from the musics I download because I listen to it all the time.
I know how to write my name in japanese and translate a few Kata and hiragana to romanji.

I'm a Japanese minor right now, and am in my fourth semester of it. I love it.

Random Japanese phrase for you: Watashi no daigaku no yonnen ni, Nihon e ikou to omotte imasu.

Translation: In my fourth year of college, I think I will go to Japan.

I plan on studying abroad. (In Japanese, that would be "Watashi wa ryuugaku suru tsumori desu.))

Same here. On everything I've done, I have gotten an "A". I passed the first semester exam with 100%. Since it is Japanese I, I will have to wait to learn how to write in カタカナ next year. I can read it, but I don't know how to write it yet. I completely know how to read and write ひらがな though.

My mother has an officemate who is Japanese, so I get hint and tips from her, unfortunately I rarely see her. Also where I live, there is only one high school that teaches Japanese, but its a public school and Im at a private school. sad

Way to go Nyphna! Congrats! smile

Fireguardian, I know how that is. I went to public school but they only had French, Italian, or Spanich so I chose French.

Actually I am learning some of the words from PGSM of all things and I actually got to use one at work! I had just watched a few episodes of PGSM the night before. I am on Act 25 now, so I suppose it was fresh in my mind. I had to deliver some paperwork to a big board meeting with people from Japan and when I walked in they stopped their conversation, so I felt uneasy about disturbing the meeting and the first thing out of my mouth was “gomennasai!” I still wish I could understand more. It is such a beautiful language.

I used to have a couple hiragana and katakana character charts that I would use whenever Babelfish couldn't handle a word. I usually use it for Yuki's blog. He tends to use the phonetic japanese spelling for words (sometimes titles of things), and since Babel has no clue how to handle that, I have to copy the words onto paint or something and match them with the romanji.

Though I do no recommend babel to help you learn the language. because most of the time the direct grammar translation will confuse the heck outta you. D:

I agree, although Babelfish has gotten better at tense, at least in their German translation. smile
