Letishia Kya-Kitty some actual symbols, the Orobourus [sign of the Homunculi] is a dragon eating its own tail. It signifies long life and self destruction The Homunculi have Eternal life, yet wish to be human, this wish to be mortal leads to their deaths. The flammel, [Ed, Al, Izumi, Dante's symbol] is the crusifixion of the winged crowned serpent, traditonaly its a symbol of pureifying something [still working on the reserch connecting this one to the storyline, any help?][[and pardon my bad spelling]] That's really cool! I never knew about the serpent on the cross thing. you learn something new every day...

Hehehe. I knew about the Flamel and Ouroboros already, but I've been thinking for a long time about how it all fits into FmA, too. xD (I read too many texts, so now my brain is also kinda dead. It's all so metaphorical that I have no idea how anything relates to anything anymore...)
I totally agree that I think the metal is a better representation of hope. I mean, it gives you the ability to move forward on your own (even if it's through the help of someone else's work).
And besides, Ed says that his limbs remind him of sin (and obviously Al's body would do the same) but don't you think that having NO ARM OR LEG, or having Al not be there at all, would be an even greater reminder of what was lost?
And uh... I won't second your idea about HP x FmA crossovers. But don't ask me why, 'cause you'll probably get angry. <3

Let's try and liken Ed and Al's transmutation with Hohenhiem's. They were both life-changing experiences, Hohenhiem's was probably on a more extreme level because of guilt...
Gah! I'm tired. Help me out here, people.
