Nafsi stalked close to the ground, blending in well with her surroundings because of her green fur. Her pink eyes darted back and forth as she searched for a good sized prey, one that wasn't too big but one that wasn't too small either. Animal's such as hares or genets or other small creatures would be of little use to her, she figured that her rather grumpy cheetah companion would be ravenous.

As she scanned her surrounding her pink eyes landed upon a lone gazelle. It had been left behind.

Perfect.

Carefully she approached the rather elegant creature making sure to stay downwind of it and not to step or move anything that could give her position away. Then the gazelle lifted it's head from the grass, perfectly exposing it's neck to the female. Readying herself she lunged straight for the neck, maw open ready to clamp down the second she made contact.

The gazelle went crashing down and struggled rather furiously against Nafsi but the leopard kept her tight grip on the creature's neck until it stopped fighting back. Releasing the neck she took a step back a rather please smile upon her maw. She then licked her lips to lick up the blood that had found its way free of her mouth.

Nafsi then began to drag the carcass back to Mashaka only to find him asleep, just as she had predicted. She brought the food close to his sleeping form before taking a few steps back and settling down onto her haunches and waiting.

Mashaka had always been a light sleeper. For much of his youth he'd pretty much had to fend for himself (his caretakers were far from dependable). When you get accustomed to living in solitude and desperation, you tend to learn to be ready to go at the drop of a pin. So from a distance he heard Nafsi's approach. However, he had neither the heart or the energy to stir, and continued to lay there with his eyes shut for quite some time.

Until the wind shifted. Then he smelled it. Gazelle. Gazelle blood. One satin eye snapped open to confirm his suspicions. And there it was, right in front of him. A nice, juicy kill. Nafsi had barely stepped back before Mashaka popped up, his eyes wide with manic delight. "OH THANK GOD!" he hollered, and he threw himself at the gazelle, paws flung over it protectively, sinking his jaws into a shoulder and stripping away the meat rapidly. Blood and fur and tiny scraps spattered everywhere as he sloppily and ravenously dug into the prey. He had absolutely no reservations.

Nafsi was taken aghast by the male's behavior. She had never before seen someone attack a dead gazelle with such...such....She couldn't even think of the right word to use to explain his actions. She also couldn't find anything to say to him as he chowed down.

She remained silent, slight disgust written across her features. The leopardess finally had to turn her gaze away from the cheetah and into the other direction. Her pink eyes closed and she winced a few times as she listened to Mashaka eating

Mashaka tended to have a lot of pride, but feeding was one area in which he was utterly shameless. He didn't care who was watching or what they thought; if he was hungry, he was going to eat, and dammit he was going to make the most of it. Face dripping with blood, Mashaka paused briefly from gorging to glance up at Nafsi, wondering why she'd grown so silent. One look at the leopardess' disgust and Mashaka laughed right out loud. "Oh, lighten up," he snorted, then dug right back in. He could barely be bothered. There was something exilerating about all the nutrients rushing into his malnourished body. He was going from the brink of death to a rush of energy fairly rapidly.

He had to hand it to her, though. This was one heck of a kill. He could hardly believe she'd managed to get something this big so soon and all on her own. "I have to hand it to you," he said through a mouthful of gazelle flank, "You hunt pretty well for a chick." Which was about as close to an earnest compliment one would ever get from Shaka. Taking another pause from his own feeding, he ripped off a leg and flung it at the unlooking Nafsi. "HEADS UP!" he hollered. Normally he was a selfish pig, but he felt that the leopardess deserved a piece of her own kill.

The green leopardess shuddered with disgust at all the noise he was making as he ate and the mess as well. She did her best to ignore the noise but was finding it increasingly difficult to do so. Nafsi considered out right leaving but stopped herself from doing so, it would be rude to do so. Her manners wouldn't let her.

Even if he didn't have manners, or at least wasn't showing them, she did and she was rather proud of them. Manners were one of the things she had built herself upon. Something she looked for in others. Something she well...expected.

Then Mashaka yelled at her grabbing her attention, having somehow managed to space off, she blinked before instantly jerking her head backward when the leg was thrown at her. It missed her by mere centimeters. A breath of relief escaped her maw as she looked down at the meat.

"..." At first she didn't say anything. She wasn't expecting him to share, she did kill it for him. "Uh..Thank you." Was all she could think of saying.

It was true... Mashaka really didn't have any manners. He'd never learned any manners... the way he was raised, he hadn't needed any. He had, of course, been taught to fake manners exceptionally well, but he was only able to pull this off when he wanted some tail. Any other time, he was just crass, bad-tempered, and downright rude. And he didn't really care.

At least he believed that he didn't care...

Right now wasn't really about manners anyway. It was about being starved near to death and wanting as much food in his belly as fast as possible. And later he was going to be very, very sick. But right now he genuinely didn't care. He would care later. A lot.

"Whatever," he grunted through his food when she thanked him, quickly adding, "Nice dodge." Because it really had impressed him somewhat. It also impressed him that he'd actually shared with someone, something he would not usually go out of his way to do.

"You might want to slow down." The leopardess suggested in a light tone of voice, watching him for a minute longer before turning her attention to the leg he had thrown at her. She bent her head down and took a bite of it. She sat there chewing rather thoughtfully for a moment.

Swallowing she looked over at the maroon cheetah. "There is a watering hole not to far from here if you want me to take you to it after you finish." She resumed eating.

"Yeah, yeah," Mashaka muttered, waving the leopardess off with a paw. He continued to feed at the same frenetic pace; he didn't need this chick to tell him how to eat. However, after a few moments he started to lose himself in thought, and that did slow him down.

He was thinking that for an uptight chick, Nafsi was still pretty hot. She had a nice body, anyway, even if he wasn't sure about her colors (like tree frog colors... but he could overlook that). But having been such a b***h for the last while (which he himself was the first to admit), he wasn't sure what his chances were of... getting any. He thought maybe he ought to start playing nice again, but he thought she might get suspicious.

If anything, he figured, he should at least start acting regretful and appeal to her better nature if he was to have any chance at all.

So, having finally slowed down, he licked at his paws and maw and cleaned himself up a bit, then smiled bashfully at Nafsi and said, "Yeah, sure. Water sounds great." He hesitated, almost pained to do this, then added. "I'm sorry... I was such a jerk. By the way." He left it at that and ran his claws back through his white mane, feeling absolutely awkward.

The leopardess shook her head and let out a sigh. He was going to regret not listening to her later on. However she didn't let it bother her, it was his own choice and he would face the consequences. She returned to her food.

The silence was good for thinking, which was exactly what she did as she ate. She found it rather amusing that people could pretend to be one thing then turn out to be something completely different. Just like the cheetah nearby. He pretended to be a nice guy with excellent manners and then turned into an ..a**.

His words interupted her thought and she looked back over to him. "Alright, I'll follow me." She rose to all four paws and headed off to her left, in the direction of the watering hole. After moving on a few feet away she looked back and nodded her head. "It's alright."

As the leopardess rose and started moving, Mashaka paused to grab a couple more hasty bites of meat from the kill before scrambling to catch up with the lady who had saved him. Being saved by someone typically endeared you to them... but Mashaka was empathetically retarded. Even after all Nafsi had done for him, Mashaka still could only help but see her as he saw all girls--a potential lay.

So he trotted along beside her, keeping quiet, trying his best not to bother her any further than he already had. Realistically, he knew his chances now were slim to nil, the way he'd been acting... but that wasn't going to stop him from trying. You could almost call the cheetah an optimist if he weren't so bitter and cynical otherwise.

He wondered how sincere the leopardess' reassurance had been. It seemed likely she had only said it for his sake... but why would she do him the favor? Trying to reason it out only managed to confuse him further, and in racking his brain he managed to blurt out, "Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"

The sound of it surprised even him.

When he spoke to her she glanced back at him before looking forward again and shaking her head. "You don't need to make it up." She stated simply before speaking once more. "A simple thanks is enough." She then fell silent again and continued walking. She had told him that she wanted nothing in return and that she helped him because she wanted to.

Yet he still acted as if he owed her something and he didn't. Not in her opinion.

"We're here." She told him as they entered the clearing where the watering hole lay.

The cheetah scowled a bit, watching the ground pass steadily below him as he walked. Thanks, huh? Mashaka couldn't remember the last time he said the word. It felt foreign to him. In fact, he had mentally prepared himself to carry out any number of degrading, humiliating, or exhausting tasks in order to appease her... but he had not prepared himself to say thanks. It was just something he didn't do.

And so, he traveled for some time in silence, measuring his breathing, trying to work up the heart to utter it. Finally, as they were nearing the waterhole, he found himself straining to force the word out of his mouth.

"Th... thhhhh.... thhhhhaaaaaaa... tha... tha... thaaaaaaannn... thaaaaaaannnnnkssssss..."

The way he groaned the word made it sound as though he were in physical agony in saying it. Either that, or like a deaf person learning to speak. Either way, he cringed intensely when he finally got it out and bolted to the edge of the waterhole, plunging his head in as though to cleanse himself.

So far today he'd almost died, let a girl take care of him, appologized, and expressed grattitude.

What was this? Bizzaro-world? Mashaka thought bitterly that he better be getting laid for his effort.

Nafsi glanced back momentarily to see his discomfort and agitation. She shook her head just barely unable to understand why he was so....displeased with her simple request, or at least the one she thought simple. It wasn't until he tried to say thanks, with much difficulty did she understand.

She only chuckled lightly as he bolted off to the watering hole. She also smirked while she walked at the same pace after him. "You're welcome. Is there anything else you might need?"

Mashaka drank eagerly from the waterhole, practically gorging himself on the water. His ears flattened back against his head when he heard her chuckling at him, though frankly he couldn't blame her. He'd been fairly constantly making a fool of himself this whole time. If he was capable of laughing at himself, he'd do so too... but instead he just felt like an idiot.

Some tail was his immediate thought upon hearing Nafsi's question, although Mashaka was certain that wouldn't go over terribly well. So instead he just took a few moments to drink silently and rehydrate his weakened body. When he finally stood up, he looked to the leopardess and shook his head slowly. "No... I don't think so."

And then the binging he had done kicked in. Suddenly he felt as though someone had punched him in the gut. He crumpled a little, drooping at the water's side, and whined, "Oh God, I think I'm gonna be sick."

Which probably about killed the last glimmer of hope the cheetah might've had at getting laid that day.

Nafsi shook her head and sighed. She had warned him not to eat so fast or he would regret it. And now he probably was. "I warned you not to eat so fast." She told him calmly walking over to him. "Come on, lets move away from the watering hole and get you into some shade, it'll help." The green leopard then nudged him lightly with her nose trying to get him to move.

"Come on, it's for your own good." She nudged him again before stepping back. This would take a while.
