The instant Kai felt that pair of arms wrap around his lower torso, his features shifted a bit into a small smirk. He didn't need to turn around - nor did he need to look into the dark brown eyes that looked up at him - to know who had nearly succeeded in tackling him just by hugging.
"Ohayou, Miki," he replied simply, moving to disentangle himself from the embrace but thinking better of it at the last moment; it was probably best to let the other dual tone-haired teen decide to let go by herself.
The 17-year-old had often thought it strange - and a little interesting - to find that there was someone else who had his...'unique' hair type, where the bangs and the longer 'back' part were almost perfectly delineated because of hue. Speaking of which, Miki's hair was practically the same color as his - yet they were in no way related, despite the girl's addressing him by 'oniichan'.
"Oi~! Kai, Miki! Ohayou gozaimasu!" Another girl, this one with ebony hair and hazel eyes, sprinted up to the pair, regulation school bag in one hand and a sketchpad in the other.
Takenouchi Yuriko was Kai and Miki's schoolmate, but one year younger than they. She was also part of the school's martial arts team, having been recruited upon graduation from junior high. That meant she didn't have a lot of time to just 'hang out' with the friends she'd made thus far into the school year.
"How are you guys?" the hazel-eyed student asked, a slight smile on her face.
The slate-haired teen shrugged noncommitantly. "Can't complain," was all he said in reply.

Miki gave a cheerpy smile and turned her head to give the other girl another "Ohayou Yuri-chan". She let go of Kai, who was still captive in her hug, to smoothen her uniform free from wrinkles and creases.
It was composed of a short sleeved shirt with a woolen sweater-vest. A tie underneath and a pleated skirt. Some girls wear normal black school shoes but Miki preferred laced on boots instead. It was particularly tall, but it was still boots. Holding her school bag on both hands, she turned to the taller male and smiled again "Oniichan, wh--"
And before she uttered another word, Miki heard a distinct sound of punches and kicks from the concrete walls of the Shinsengumi High Gates. Running towards the entrance of the school. And the first thing she saw was a sway of black.
Sighing, Miki muttered "Diana..."
Throwing a few more punches on another thug and dropping him down violently, Diana snarled and brought another by the collar and pinned him to the tree "Listen, if you try to peek to the changing room again I will do worse things to your face that no plastic surgeon could fix in a million years!" the thug choked a "yes" and Diana threw him to the ground with a snarl.
When she heard someone call her name, she muttered a name back "Miki..hey". Diana Murphy, Shinsen High's female rebel. Not only does she beat up countless thugs her size or even bigger than her, she always has a way to bend school rules and inflict pain to those who are unlucky enough to trigger her anger.
Charcoal layered hair with darker streeks in certain areas, her glaring red eyes shaping a deep frown. Unlike most girls, Diana wore the male uniform. And it was just the beginning of her constant violations.

"...not again..." Yuriko - or 'Yuri-chan' to Miki - muttered to herself before walking past the school gates.
"Diana, ohayou gozaimasu," she half-called at the charcoal-haired girl clad in the guys' uniform. Although she and the others were pretty close, the budding artist - why else would she bring a sketchpad? - preferred to retain some of the nuances included with being a lowerclassman, such as using that greeting rather than the shortened 'ohayou'.
"So... which changing room were they trying to get a peek in this time?"
There were quite a number of changing rooms on the campus - at least, for the 'main' sports; track and field, kendo, swimming, baseball, basketball, and martial arts were among the activities Shinsengumi High promoted, so there were changing rooms for either gender devoted to the school teams of each. And last week, a different group of 'pervy saps' had tried to sneak a peek into the swimming club's changing room.
Kai just smirked at the familiar sight of the rather tall female in the male uniform surrounded by limp bodies of either students or random passersby who'd snuck into the school to do who-knew-what inside.
"The usual business, eh, Diana?" he commented, leaning against the cool concrete wall - it provided some shade, at least, for which he was grateful.
It wasn't that surprising anymore to see this sort of scenario; it was merely amusing now.
----------------------------------
Stop moving. Hide - no, not behind the tree, in the branches. Check the air, check everything. You're a Tracker; the hunter, not the hunted.
...right, Aelian... its not like you're being hunted by the most feared assassin and Daemn in all of Arkanna... The young elfin woman - who was actually part veypr but preferred to keep that fact to herself - sighed irritably, brushing some loose, irritating strands out of her face... but without disturbing the branches around her.
How long had she been running and hiding like this? Nine hours? Ten? Maybe more. Her skills as a Tracker had warned her that the girl known as the Black Rose had been instructed to hunt her down. And while Aelian Zurea was not one to back down from a confrontation, Yumeru-hime had made it clear to her that at the moment, a face-off was not the best option, not without the Guardians.
...nothing. No one's coming... hopefully. The auburn-haired Arkannae grit her teeth, pointed canines flashing momentarily, as she surveyed her surroundings. She was at the border of the Dunzuren and the Ice Kingdom Fioraln; she would find some semblance of sanctuary there, thanks to the protective barrier erected by the High Priestess-Oracle. At the pace she was moving, she would definitely get to Fioraln before nightfall.

Diana gave a small smirk in in reply "Not really" to answer Kai and Yuriko at the same time. "Although this time a girl from the Track and Field came to me in a complaint saying 4 guys kept peeking at their changing room. So you know...i skipped those 4 classes the other day to watch out for them. And I finally got a glimpse of their faces, I rearranged them just now."
Snapping her neck and cracking a few knuckles, she picked up her bag and held it in a rather "boyish pose" by making her elbow stick out and her bag onto her upper shoulder blade. Yes, Diana never does girly poses. Checking her watch, Diana muttered "3, 2, 1...". And everyone heard in the intercom blared "Ms. Murphy! To my office, immediately". Diana shrugged "I'll see ya guys later then" with a two-finger salute, she walked inside the school.
Miki sighed "When will Diana ever stop fighting? She'll be in detention all the time"

Still smirking, Kai shook his head; he still wondered how his schoolmate could be so nonchalant at being sent to detention practically every day. "I don't think she'll ever stop, Miki..." he muttered, swinging his schoolbag onto his shoulder much like Diana had done.
What the slate-haired teen had said was true; ever since he'd come to know the dark-haired girl, Diana was constantly scrapping with others - usually guys. She was one of those people who lived out of the norm, so to speak. But speaking seriously now, she was liable to get hurt herself in these 'encounters', and one couldn't help but wonder if only getting critically injured would drive home the idea that perhaps it wasn't so good to be constantly in a fight.
Yuriko sighed again. She hadn't known these three that long, but she did know about Diana's daily summons to the principal's office and, truth, be told, she was getting worried about her friend's standing as a student. Perhaps it could be due in part to her own good record - little to no absences, no rule-breaking of any sort, all that - and then again, it may have been just that: concern.
The ebony-haired teen glanced at her watch then, and looked back up. "I gotta go, guys," she said simply. "Class starts in ten minutes, you know."

Diana continued walking until she stopped by the Principal's office, she rolled her eyes and entered the room. She was greeted by the sound of signing of papers and stamping. Smirking, she threw her bag to the nearby table, took a seat and laid her legs on the desk. "heya Mr. Fubuki. How's tricks?".
Mr. Fubuki raised his head and Diana was greeted by stern dark brown eyes. "Ms. Murphy, the attack on those students was not a very smart thing. And yesterday, you skipped 4 classes and last week, you were noticed to have a dragon tatoo on your back."
Diana chuckled "Hey, not my fault Old Fujiyama didn't like my family tatoo." Then Diana's features turn serious and she took off her legs from the desk to stand straight and cross her legs. "Mr. Fubuki, you do know i am only here because you are just doing the whole detention thing to be a cover. "You" were the one who enrolled me to this school. "You" were the one who made a contract to my family to be of service to you. And "You" are the one who hired me to protect Miki."
Mr. Fubuki gave a sigh "I know. I know that Diana. I know you only knocked those thugs out because they took interest in several girls and one of them is my little girl. But this is getting a bit too risky now. I may be forced to suspend you because of your violations. I already allowed you to wear the male's uniform. But....constant fights."
Diana shrugged "Those guys? They are just practice. I faced worser opponents in my childhood training. And besides...Miki is my best friend now. She isn't just my principal". Mr. Fubuki nodded. The Murphy family always called the "protected" their "principal".
Diana stood up and took her bag "I'll see ya later then Mr. Fubuki". Mr. Fubuki blinked and stood "Wait! Diana..". Diana turned and said "yeah?". The man sighed and calmly said "Take care of Miki always...for me." Diana just smirked and continued walking "You know I will". And with that, she went out of the door.
Miki hurried to her class along the hallway. She reached to her desk, placed her books and bag on the table and stood up to take a final brush of her uniform. Until... a "Hey" rang through her ears and she smiled and blushed. Giving a full 180, she tried her best to get rid of the slight color in her cheeks but in vain. And spoke "Tala. Ohayou".
Tala gave a small smile. Tala Valkov was Russian by nationality. But due to a job transfer, his father went to Japan to attend a social function and there, he met Miki. He wasn't that interested at her that time, but when he transferred to the same Highschool as her and started hanging out with her small group, feelings came about.
It was confusion at first but it was confirmed when Miki finally told him how she felt. He returned her feelings and then as they say, the rest is history. Tala gently brushed a hand through his bloodred hair "So...Diana got detention again. No surprise there."
Miki sighed "Hai. I often don't see the point why she always does this. Beating some random group of guys who just do a violation instead of reporting it to my Toosan. It's less violent that way."
Tala shrugged "Well, you know Diana. Always the wild and rebellious type of girl. But you can't change her antics. She's scary beyond all reason".
"Who's scary beyond all reason,Tala"
Tala's back hairs went stiff and he turned his ice blue eyes behind to see the dark, venomous aura of the said charcoal layered haired girl. "Di-di-Diana!" gave a deep breath, the redhead composed himself and spoke "The heck, you didn't have to scare me".

Kai had to smile - if only a little - at how Diana still managed to scare Tala like that. In all the years they'd known each other, the maroon-eyed student and track-and-field member had never known the redhead to frighten easily.
Maybe he's right in saying Diana's scary beyond all reason... the slate-haired teen thought, giving a simple nod and a near-inaudible 'ohayou' in greeting to said redhead, before entering the classroom and making his way to his seat.
Inside the relatively cooler school building, the heat of they day didn't seem as oppressing. Still, it was so hard to believe that it was this hot so early in the day.
He sighed and leaned back in his seat, taking the strange red stone once more. He had this strange feeling that, despite its quite ordinary appearance, the small, rounded red object was special, somehow. But he couldn't figure out why he felt that.
----------------------------------
"Oooy~! Yuriko!"
The hazel-eyed teen glanced up upon hearing the familiar voice, breaking into a welcoming smile. "Takao!" she called back, raising her hand in greeting even though her classmate wasn't that far off. "Ohayou!"
The slightly tanned, dark blue-haired kendo club member quickened his pace until he was keeping pace with the girl. As usual, a backpack dangled from one shoulder, and his collared shirt looked as though he'd slept in it. Kinomiya Takao wasn't really one to follow rules and regulations on proper school dress that closely, but he did so unintentionally. He just happened to find the uniform, no matter how simple, to be a bit too constricting, no matter how many times Yuriko or his other classmates tried to convince him to wear it properly.
The same could be said for his choice of school bag. If the one provided by the school was not to the student's taste, the rulebook said, another could be substituted, provided it was in dark or muted colors. Not Takao's. His backpack was a very loud combination of red and yellow, with white accents. It didn't help that he wore a red-and-blue baseball cap indoors as well as out. A number of teachers had already reminded him of the 'no caps or hats in the classroom' rule, but it seemed they were talking to a brick wall.
Still, it wasn't that hard to like Takao. He was by nature friendly and exuberant, always ready to jump in and lend a friend a hand. Added to that were his ready smile and pleasant, rounded, open features; one would be hard-pressed to find someone who handed immediately perked up upon just being around the steel blue-eyed boy.
"So, Yuriko," Takao was staying as they stepped into the corridor where the first year classrooms were situated. "Didja get the answer to number eight in the math homework? 'cause I'm havin' a bit of trouble..."
"You could have called last night if you were having trouble answering your homework..." Yuriko returned, sounding a bit miffed. It was too close to the bell to help with homework! "And don't think I'll do the calculations for you this time around,"
"How did you-? Aww, never mind. Just... help me out, please?"
A sigh, and then Yuriko took her pencil out from an outer pocket of her bag. "All right fine. Get your stuff, and make it quick..."
((OOC://Please note that Takao is not taken by any RPers; I am merely doing a character intro for him. Currently, Takao, Max, rei, Daichi, and Kyouju are still available; while no one else is playing them, however, BloodCountess_Di and will NPC them whenever needed.)))

Diana smirked in amusement. She never failed to make Tala get scared by her. She's good. "Whatever. I'm here aren't I?". She took her bag to walk towards homeroom. Good thing her classroom wasn't that far. Just the other direction in the next wing.
Tala gave a small "hi" back to Kai but not giving a small frown. Diana always had a way to scare him no matter how composed he was. At least it was only her, but it was rather humiliating to get scared of a female. Following her lead, he took off to his own classroom. But not without giving a small kiss on Miki's forehead, which caused the younger girl to blush a little.

"...and there; now you can find the sine of that angle, since you now have the length of the opposite line." Yuriko finished, putting her pencil down on the desk and leaning back.
Takao grinned, scribbling the answer onto his homework sheet after double-checking it on his pocket calculator. "Seriously, Yuriko, you should teach this class; you explain it much better than ol' Whatshisface..."
The ebony-haired teen said nothing, even at the new nickname her classmate had come up for their math teacher Mr. Wada. She just sat there for a moment, looking at Takao with an amused expression on her face. At length, however, she spoke.
"Maybe so, but I'd rather not teach. I'd rather become a writer or artist, or else an instructor at a school for martial arts."
Still grinning, the dark blue-haired boy stood up, gathering his papers and pencil case. "Well, I'd better get to my seat; class'll be startin' any minute."
True enough, as he sat down, the chime rang out, signalling the start of another school day. Heh. Just in time... Takao thought, watching as students began pouring into the classroom. After making sure none of his homework sheets would suddenly fly off his desk, the steel blue-eyed student reached for his pencil case and opened it, hunting for his eraser and extra case of pencil leads.
What he saw nestled with his writing instruments, though, caught him by surprise. It was a deep sky blue in color, flattened at one end and with two wavy lines engraved on one surface.
That was definitely not an eraser.
What the-?
----------------------------------
When the chime sounded throughout the building, Kai sighed and reached for his bag to take out a notebook and his pencil. Not that he actually took down any real notes; it was more of a formality for him, so as not to 'offend' the teacher by appearing disinterested.
The maroon-eyed teen glanced quickly to the side to see if Miki was still standing outside the classroom. Hopefully she wasn't, since the teacher could come in and start homeroom at any time.
----------------------------------
She hides her trace well, but I can tell she was here... Keiko thought, standing up from where she'd been crouching near a tree - the same tree where Aelian had hidden earlier.
From here, there were only two possible routes - east, towards Fioraln, or north, deeper into the southern edge of the Dunzuren, but heading for the almost impassable mountain range said to be home to the Avians, the one race that had thus far remained neutral, helping neither Daemn nor Arkannae.
For a while, the brunette stood still, staring at nothing in particular while she tried to guage where her target had gone. If the elfin had gone on to Fioraln, she was sure to find sanctuary there before day's end; at the rate she seemed to be moving, reaching the Avians' dwelling would take another day on foot for this Guide candidate.
And then, a dark blur, and the Black Rose was gone, leaving no that she'd been in that part of the Dunzuren.

Tala managed to get to class still plenty of time to arrange his things. Going through a small group of female groupmates, one with long strawberry blonde hair and a green headband smiled at him "Hi Tala". Trying to hide his frown, he gave a small smile and waved back (althought it "was" fake), settling to his seat.
Diana was already resting her feet on top of her desk and resting a book on top of her head. Hearing some voices, she took off the book off her eyes only to see the familiar sight of a male redhead. And she just noticed of how the class flirt was saying "hi" to him. Great...
Miki ran back to her seat, which is around just a seat apart from Kai and hastily took out her notebook and pencil case, almost dropping it in the process. But she couldn't hide that small tint of color in her cheeks and her giddy look to the said male.
I don't know how put Rei and Max..leeme think since...sometimes it's hard to get a overly calm guy and overhyper kid...

Kai smirked, reached over, and ruffled Miki's hair. "Quit it," he muttered, low enough so only he and the brown-eyed student would hear. "Don't let Kagami catch you daydreaming, all right?"
With that, he leaned back in his seat again, gaze flitting disinterestedly from one relatively unknown classmate to the other. School was all right, to Kai's way of thinking, but sometimes there were days you didn't want to be there, just because. This was probably one of those days for the slate-haired teen.

Miki pouted after Kai ruffled her bangs. He can be such a popper of dream bubbles. Fixing her ruffled bangs, she went to fix her things, just in time for the teacher to come in and the class to stand up and greet. And the rest of the day begins.
"BRING!!!!". Many students russled about to finally get out of the classroom to enjoy their lunch. Miki gave a sigh of relief and went to place her things back to her back. As she turn around, she saw a black-haired young man with friendly golden eyes. "Rei-kun! Hello" Miki exclaimed.
Rei gave a friendly smile and waved "Hi Miki. It's been a while since i talked to you. How's it going?". Rei Kon. Another student with another nationality and his was Chinese. His parents died when he was young and he first stayed with his friends in China for he couldn't bear to leave them.
But the time came when he had to go at the age of 12, to stay with his Japanese relatives who could take care of him. Sadden by the departure, he didn't say goodbye to his friends, resulting them being angered. But after explaining what his intentions were after he came back for 3 years, he gain back their trust and he was now currently residing in Japan with an Aunt and Uncle.
Rei looked behind Miki's shoulder, to see a familiar two-toned male. "And hello to you too, Kai".

Hearing his name, Kai turned around to see Rei standing next to Miki. In the five years that he and the rather feline-looking Chinese, the latter had shown himself to be level-headed, amiable, hard-working, and reliable. Welcome respite from his other friends in the lower years - Kinomiya Takao, Mizuhara Max, Sumeragi Daichi, and Kyouju.
Kyouju and Yuriko were not as trying to deal with; they were a bit more reserved than the others. Max, too, was not so bad; he, at least, knew when to keep quiet - an essential skill when trying to get along with people like Kai and Tala. Takao and Daichi, on the other hand, were like a pair of escaped monkeys, at their very worse. They were nice enough, Kai'd give them that, but it was still troublesome to have to keep them both reigned in.
After some time, he made his way to the classroom door - one of the few times he would brave getting lunch in the school cafeteria - pausing only to raise an eyebrow as if to ask "Well? You coming?" And then he exited the room. If Rei, or Miki, or both followed, well, it made no difference to him. Although this was also one of the few instances where he would have been glad of the company; being accompanied by someone to a more...public setting deterred any of his 'fangirls' from his year and from the lower years. Yet another trying daily ordeal he had to go through.
----------------------------------
Just moments after the chime had rung, signalling the lunch break, Takao made his way to his friend and classmate's desk. "Hey, Yuriko?"
The ebony-haired teen glanced up, absently snapping her school bag shut. "Hai?"
"You wanna get lunch?" It was something of a ritual between the two, even though Yuriko was more likely to reply in the negative as she usually brought her own bento.
To Takao's slight surprise, however, this time, the girl smiled and stood up.
"Sure. I didn't have time to make lunch this morning; may as well brave the crowded cafeteria."
The steel blue-eyed teen grinned. "You make it sound like a test or something. Relax!" That was another thing to Takao's character; one of the things that got him riled up was food.
Yuriko shook her head good-naturedly at her companion's remark. By this time, they were out of the classroom, and she paused to slide the door shut. "Are we meeting up with Max, by any chance?" she asked absently.
Takao nodded. "Yeah. He usually eats at the cafeteria with me."
"Good." Yuriko looked pleased at this revelation. "I can finally ask him about that strategy game he said he'd lend me. I want to know what console - or consoles - it's compatible with, and also if he's found it already..."

In a lonely long table in the back, a young blonde boy was humming to himself as he took something out of his small bag a white bottle with a red cap. And it was none other than Max Mizuhara.Max had a Japanese Dad and American Mom. But since his mother was a scientist who worked for a company, she stayed in America and Max stayed in Japan with his father.
Taking the cap off, he excitely squirted the white concoction onto his meal: a bowl of Yakisoba noodles. The white substance was mayo (he had the strange love for adding mayo to almost everything he eats). Smelling the aroma, the bright blue-eyed 16 yr old squirted a generous amount. "Man, the cafeteria people sure know how to make good noodles" he muttered to himself, breaking apart his chopsticks and dug in.
Miki gave a surprised gasp and turned to Rei "Rei-kun, you want to join me and Oniichan to the cafeteria?".
Rei gave a catlike smile and gave a nod of approval and quickly followed the young girl who took off the moment she confirmed his agreement
Diana was already by the door and turned her back to look at her redhead classmate. "Yo Tala! I'm starving here! Move your lazy butt already" she shouted in annoyance.
"Alright, Alright. Sheesh. Can't you be patient for once?" Tala grumbled as he placed his last notebook inside his bag and hurried to follow Diana to the cafeteria. They took off running, in hope of getting a table.

Having just paid for her lunch - a nice big bowl of ramen (it was big for a school serving, at least), Yuriko clutched the edges of her tray, glancing half over her shoulder at Takao, who was still lined up to pay. C'mon... she thought, casting her gaze over the various tables scattered throughout the hall. Finally, it lit on a familiar shock of blond hair; no one else on campus had quite the same shade, so the hazel green-eyed teen knew she'd found their friend.
And just in time, too.
"Y'seen Max?" Takao asked, also clutching a tray. This one, though, had a bowl of yakisoba on it, as well as some tempura and a snack-size serving of custard. He, too, glanced around, until he saw the blond-haired teen. "Never mind, there he is. Hey, Max!"
With that, the dark blue-haired teen was off, walking briskly towards the table in case anyone else thought of using it.
Again, Yuriko followed closely, making sure not to spill her soup, and at last laid the tray down on the table, choosing one of two chairs on either side of Max, muttering a soft 'hey' before sitting down properly.
The ebony-haired teen wondered if any of the others would be joining them that day, and if so, who?
Practically at the other end of the cafeteria, Kai got out of the lunch line, holding his tray carefully and scanning for a place to sit down where it was bound to be relatively less noisy.
At that moment, Takao looked up and spotted the slate-haired young man. Instantly, he stood up and waved, calling "Yo, Kai! Over here!"
There was no mistaking that voice, and since as far as he knew he was the only 'Kai' on campus, the slate-haired teen went over to join the the other three at their relatively empty table.
He nodded, his way of a midday greeting to the three of them before sitting down - no, he was not sitting next to Takao. If there was small talk, he didn't really take note of it, for going through the points their history teacher mentioned in that day's lesson. It was something he did every now and then, yet still managed to know what the conversation, if there was one, had been about, even if he wasn't consciously paying that much attention to it.
Meanwhile, Yuriko was asking Max about the game he'd mentioned. "What did you say its name was?" she was saying. "I know its a strategy; I just can't remember the title..." Strange that she could remember other bits and pieces of information, most of which didn't remotely interest her, yet here was something that she was keen to look into, yet forgot one detail of. Ah, well.
