Memory lay there, confused and angry. This stallion had no right to talk to her mother like that! Granted, she hadn't the faintest idea what anything said meant, but his tone was enough for her. Why a stallion would want to knock Momma around puzzled Memory, but her thoughts were quick to return to the stallion next to her, and wondering what his next move would be.

Nostalgia wasn't about to start spouting off reasons of love and maternity--she knew it would be wasted on deaf ears. For a brute to abuse a small foal... there was no doubt in Nos's mind that this mutant was heartless through and through. It would be pointless to explain to him that she had spent ages dreaming of foals of her own, and to finally have her darlings meant more than the world to her.

"You were a foal once yourself," she pointed out, trying to keep her head cool and calm in the stressful situation. "Surely you also remember what it's like to be so little..."

Shifting from one leg to the other, she kept her gaze from falling on her daughter. She couldn't look at her, for fear that she'd burst into tears. She was scared that she wouldn't be able to overpower the mutant in saving her own child.

Staring straight in front of her, her eyes locked with his. It was time to try another attempt at rescue. "And surely there must be something you'd rather have than dull old foal meat. Perhaps...perhaps we could work out some kind of agreement? Some kind of bargain?"

Tossing a leering grin her way, Plague was more than pleased that his quickly-made plans were falling perfectly into place. Now, if he could pull it off, not only will his injury be healed, but he had the chance of getting an early dinner and dessert as a bonus.

"This creature means so much to you....that you would be willing to barter for its life?" he asked, sounding amused. "Well, for that noble cause, I'm sure we can come to some kind of agreement." He remained where he was, looking thoughtfully in her direction, "Whatever to choose...whatever to choose... Why, I think I know what I could use!"

His head turned downwards to glance at his injury. "It would be quite noble of you to take care of that little problem for me. Stings a bit, as I'm sure you could guess. Heal me and I'll let your daughter go free."

Though I can't promise I won't try to eat you both after I do, he thought smugly to himself, his head raising itself back up to give the mare a challenging look.

Why wasn't Momma looking at her? Was she ashamed of her for getting herself into this situation? Disappointed in her that she had strayed from the path?

Memory's ears flattened, scared and worried at what was going on in her mother's mind. Would she let Memory get eaten? After all, even if Memory was gone, Momma'd still have Trev and Mister Draven to play with. And she bet they didn't wander off the path like she did.

Memory whimpered and burrowed herself harder against the ground, the uncomfortable hoof painful to her cheek.

What to do, what to do!

Nostalgia flinched at the request, not having expected anything of the sort from the mutant. Her eyes followed the direction of her enemy's and fell upon the nasty looking gap on the stallion's leg. How he was still able to stand on it amazed her, and it was obvious from the puss and dry blood clinging to the hair around the wound that the infection around it had already started forming.

It would take some power from her horn and energy from her body, but she could do it. The issue was, however, was did she WANT to heal this monster? Leaving him like he was would worsen his situation, even to the extent of possibly killing him, depending on the severity of blood loss and infection. But, if she didn't heal him, it would more than likely result in her own kin's death. So, should she heal this monster now, who would no doubt kill many many others if healed, or, would she allow her child to die before her very eyes in hopes to destroy this monster?

Plague growled as he watched the mare think. Thinking was bad; he wanted her to decide the foal's fate immediatly, for he had assumed in her caring motherly nature that she'd automatically pick her foal over anything. He wasn't prepared for the mare to stand there and think on what to choose. That is, if that's what she was thinking of. Perhaps she was trying to come up with some ploy to try to swindle her daughter from him without healing his leg, or stalling for another to come to her aid.

Either way, he was still in control, as he held the foal's life literally underneath his hoof. It would be wise of her to make her decision, and make it fast, if she valued her daughter's life.

Why wasn't she saying anything? Did she actually have to think about this decision?!

Memory's dark violet eyes started to tear up. She was frightened, confused, and her mother's silence was doing nothing to comfort her. She had assumed her mother would nod her head and agree to the mutant's request... anything to save her daughter, right?

But she wasn't saying anything... just standing there, staring at the both of them. Was she going to let the mutant have her, after all?

"Momma... please..." she whimpered, not knowing what else to say.

Her daughter's voice was all she needed to hear to make her decision. Stepping forward, she lowered her head in defeat and muttered, "Fine... I'll do it."

Raising her head, her eyes met with his, "But you let her go the moment I start to heal you. If you try to attack either of us when I'm doing this, I can sure as hell make the damage far worse than you'd ever imagine."

Without waiting for a response, Nostalgia stepped forward once again and tilted her horn towards the open wound. The rank smell of the mutant filled her nostrils, and she held her breath, attempting to keep from gagging.

Her curved horn made it's way to the gash, and the glowing tip barely touched the wound's opening before she forced her energy and concentration on mending the mark. She could feel her brow beginning to sweat from the amount of effort she was putting into the healing, and that's when the images started to infiltrate her mind and she flinched.

Scenes of the dark mutant flashed before her eyes, and before she could will the memories of the past away, they story began to unfold in front of her eyes.

She saw the mutant, and a pinkish white kalona. It was obvious from looking through his eyes that this kalona was pregnant, though it appeared the mutant hadn't the faintest idea, and was far too focused on the domination and power over this female to take notice of such an obvious fact.

She looked further back, and saw the horror of this monster... the evil he committed, the deeds he had done. Nostalgia wasn't able to tell any future plans of this monster, nor any thoughts he might be having, for her realm was the past, and unfortunately, for the first time in her life, she wished she hadn't been blessed with the powers she possessed.

It was too much... it was all too much. Jerking back, she tore her head away from the wound, and trembled, trying to keep herself standing after the loss of energy she had exerted looking through his past and healing Plague.

This creature who stood in front of her had no soul... no thoughts of anything but of himself, no care in the world but his own priorities. Nos had never met anything like him before, and breaking her connection with his memories took more out of her than it normally would. She was weak, she was defenseless, and now both she and her daughter were exposed targets for the evil mutant.

Plague gave a smug grin as he watched the alicorn bend to his will and approach him. It wouldn't be long now, until he was back to being healthy and with a hearty meal to boot.

He grunted in response to her statement, neither affirming or denying a reply concerning the foal he kept hostage. He would wait until she was weak from healing him before he'd attack the mother, and then would take care of devouring her child afterwards. Plague watched as she leaned her head in, tilting her horn to meet his leg, wary of any trick she might attempt to try.

The moment the tip touched his leg, however, an awkward sensation rushed over him... it was as if his entire body was submerged under water, yet he still could breath. An intruder had let herself into his head, and was pilfering through his memories, through his past. Scenes flew by in his head, scenes of Dia and himself, scenes of his many wanderings in this land and his previous one. In his head, he could hear her thoughts, hear her disgust, her horror of him. But above all, he could sense the shock she held as she noticed Dia's round belly, and what was in it.

His thoughts betrayed him... Dia was pregnant? How did he not notice such a thing? He had merely assumed she had fattened herself up from lack of exercise... pregnancy was the last thing he could think of that would have happened to her. It made sense, though, once the pieces fell into place. Her different scent, her mood change, her bolting from him. She was pregnant with his foals and didn't even think to mention it to him?!

As strong as he was physically, mentally he was powerless against the nosey alicorn. However, it only took a bit of history visiting for the alicorn to repel herself out of his mind, and take a few steps away from him.

The wound on his leg had mostly healed itself, thanks to her horn, though a dull ache ran through it as she had left the wound partially intact from her surprise rush to get away from him. He could tell from her thoughts inside his head that she was caught off guard by his brutality, and it was quite obvious that her delving had left her in a very weakened state.

As much as he had planned on taking both hers and the foal's life, there was other business to attend to, and no time to lose. His leg was more than amply ready for the journey, and he turned and began his walk out of the forest, without saying a word. He needed meat, but he needed to find Diabetia far more than any hunger could demand attention. There would be much explaining to do.
