I'd personally go for a good stock guitar. I've recently decided to bite the bullet and take a risk with Gibson's quality control and save my cash for a '67 Flying V remake. I love the tone and look of those guitars... And I'll have it in... Oh, about a year, given my current average monthly income. I have to save $1500 to do my school graduation project, though. I kind of want to graduate high school, ya know... Plus a kickass computer built for that reason never hurt anybody. xp

Like my kickass senior project coming up xD My guitar! It'll be significantly cheaper than 1500 though, one reason being I trust myself with 1500$ worth of computer hardware to build a computer (yes, I can do that too! mrgreen ) that 1500 worth of exotic tonewoods and floyd rose tremelos to build something I've never built before.

I built a guitar for my senior project, acoustic electric. It's pretty good for a $75 shot through, but my ridiculous height on the bridge give such high action that it's a workout to get any notes past the first 5 frets! xd

I'm about to hack the s**t out of this Teisco of mine. I'll be adding a maple drop top to it, making it a thinline.

Mod.
All the way. Even if I had a damned good guitar it would still get modded. I customize my guitars according to my personality and the personality of the guitar. Some guitars I pick up and it just screams to be shredded on, others you pick up and don't want to play anything but blues or clean tones, and because I'm so specific about my tone and the playability i expect from my guitars...theres really no other option. My guitars playability, tone, and looks are what makes it unique and give it its onw character.

Well I bought a heavily modified 1958 7 String Flying V Reissue. I prefer modded because you can make the guitar unique just like the one who is playing it.

A good stock. I wouldn't mind modding a guitar, but I'd just rather buy a good one if I could.

Depends on the guitar's condition. If it's brand-spanking-new from the factory, I'll let it stay stock. The companies built them like that for a reason, it must be good.
But if it's already got some years on it, I'll be glad to make it my own.

Right now I'd say stock. Ask me in a year and it'd probably say modded.
