Mezi was pleased that Kafiri shook most of the dust from her coat. He liked it quite a bit, and to see her let it go unkept was such a shame. He wasn't really sure why she wasn't proud of the unique colors; if he looked like that, he'd show it off all the time. Where he had an over abundance of confidence, she seemed to have a serious lack of it. Then again, if Mom was always on his case, he'd probablly be the same way. "I can't climb either... I'm trying to learn, though." It was hard to say that in words. Leopards could climb easily, but he couldn't. The fact that it was hard for him was difficult to swallow. Some day, he'd get up a tree... It was just taking more practice than he wanted.

"Flowers?" His eyes brightened significantly. He knew several flower patches in the nearby area, a few of which my have some old dens or brush. This would be easier than he originally thought. "I can find that. There're a whole lot of flowers near the stream... I guess they kind of like the water." He shrugged a little. In his young mind, plants were more like creatures than anything else, and had personalities. He had gotten into the habit of whispering to flowers he thought were particularly pretty, assuming that they couild hear him.

"If you practice, I bet you'll be able to climb in no time," she commented with a bright nod, "Maybe you just have to get a bit bigger first, before you can get really high." Kafiri took a moment to look upward, to the tops of the trees. Mother, Ajali and Kifuno could all get waaay up there, even if they were only half leopard (and no snake) it made sense that they could do it someday too. She glanced back down to Mezi when he described where to find flowers.

"Really? You know where to look?" she asked, sounding impressed that he just knew it off the top of his head, "Are there any good hiding spots by the stream? How far away is it?"

Her cheery way of saying that one day he might climb actually brightened his mood some. He had tried practicing already, but had only ended up slidding back down the bark. He had seen a leopard cub only a little older than him make her way up into the branches before, and so he had always assumed that he couldn't climb because he was a leopon. The hope that some day he be up a tree was some what comforting.

"There are probabley loads down there, yeah. It's not too far, either. I'm pretty sure it's still in Mom's territory, or at least close enough to it that she wouldn't care." He'd been there a few times before to get what little sunshine he could and to find flowers. There were trees there with large, oddly shaped roots. Thinking back on it, the roots were just around the size that a cub could fit undr if a little digging was done. There were also bound to be flowers near the roots, since they grew in abundance in the small shafts of light and so near fresh, running water. "It's this way." He bounded off to the south merrily, happy to go looking for a hide out if there were flowers nearby.

"Really? That sounds perfect," she commented, pleased to hear that such a place existed. Kafiri would be most comfortable knowing she wasn't too far away, especially since it seemed important that they didn't go to far. She didn't know her way around well enough to chance wandering off, either.

She followed after Mezi eagerly, fully believing that he would know where to find the very best place.

It didn't take very long to get to the stream. Just like Mezi had promised, the bank was dotted with wild flowers of vibrant hues and different shapes. He smiled a little at the sight; flowers just had that affect on him. Today was not about admiring flowers, though, and he quickly pulled himself out of the dream like state. What were they looking for again? Oh yes, a hide out. He scanned the area, finding several protruding roots. There were around three... but it was hard to tell which of them would make the best place for a cub to dig into. There was only one way to know.

Picking up a light jog, he moved over to the first root and started to dig. "We're gunna have to test each one, I guess. Wanna help dig it out?" He looked over his should to his sister, the smile still planted on his face.

Kafiri did her best to keep right behind her brother, not wanting to make him wait for her or lose him and the chance to get a good, permanent hideout. When they arrived within view of the bright flowers, though, she couldn't help but slow down a little bit to admire them. It was just like Mezi had promised.

"Wow, you were right," she commented brightly, and jogged after him to the first tree root and without being asked she started to help as best she could without getting in the way.

After a few moments of comfortable silence and digging, Mezi leaned back and took a look at their work. It seemed big enough for his sister to fit in, but he couldn't tell how comfortable it would be. He cocked his head to the side a bit, trying to predict what she would say about it, but couldn't come up with anything. "Well.. go in and try it, I guess." He shrugged his shoulders a little and sat back on his haunches, admiring the various flowers while he waited for her to crawl in. "If it's not comfortable, we can try another root." He said it a bit more cheerfully than he normally talked, as he was a bit more happy than he normally was. The enviroment he was in and his company had done wonders on his mood. Putting his energy to something constructive, as opposed to just thinking about how uncool it was to be a leopon, seemed to make him a much mre optimistic youngster.

Kafiri was not as talented at digging as her brother was, but she did her best to keep pace with him and get as much done as she could. Worst case scenario, she'd just have to keep digging her little burrow herself sometime if Mezi got bored of helping out. She even kept up her digging a moment longer than her brother as he paused to examine their work and her reaction.

"Ok," she agreed lightly when told to take the hideout for a test-run. Carefully, Kafiri first examined the best way to go about this, and then crawlled into the hollow very carefully. It wasn't too bad, quite comfortable even, though she could quite easily tell that it wouldn't work if she was any bigger. Fortunately, she didn't expect that to happen anytime soon.

"It's good," Kafiri beamed, "Maybe a little more room.." She inched forward so she wasn't so far back and away from Mezi.

Mezi gave the little den a hard look, while his sister climbed in, trying to see if it suited her. The little wild flowers that coated the surrounding area looked pretty nice, and could lift the spirits of almost any critter that might want to call the den home. At least, any critter who shared his fondness of flowers. He wondered breifly how to get the flowers going around the sides of the den, now that they had disturbed some of them with their digging. Was there even a way to tell the little plants where to grow?

He looked back at his sister whnshe began talking, leaving the flower thought train to be picked back up later. "I can go in and dig out some more for you, if you want." He smiled pleasantly, still in that incredibley good mood. It's not that he was usually angry or anything, but that he wasn't alway quite this nice, even with family. Kafiri was easy to be nice to, though. Her sweet nature had a calming affect on him.

Kafiri continued to crawl her way out of her new little den, and once she was free she shook some of the dirt from her white fur. She wasn't too concerned with a little dust, but this was more than a little bit of dirt after crawling around under there.

"That'd be good," she answered quietly, somewhat reluctant to take advantage of his offer and good mood. She stuck close by him, ready to help however she could. It was surprising that she'd been hiding from everyone, including Mezi, and now she was enjoying herself with him.

With a short nod, the little male crawled in the hole his sister had just emerged from. Once inside, he clawed at the back of the den wall, loosening the well packed dirt. After a few moments, he pulled all the dirt into a heap in the middle of the den, and then pushed it out with his nose. At first, only dirt came from the hole, almost as if the tree root had eaten a bad lunch and decided to get rid of it. Then, out of the dead leaves and soil, the male's nose and muzzle popped out. Soon nough, his full body was out of the whole, covered from head to toe in dirt.

Mezi shook off every part of his body in an attempt to rid himself of the dirt. He was more looks concious than his sister, and didn't feel very comfortable with all of this yuck in his furs. He was more relaxed around Kafiri than other critters in the Jungle, but he still didn't feel comfortable if he wasn't clean. He'd have to groom later on. For now, he'd live with the semi-soiled coat. A slight sigh escaped him, but he quickly put a small smile back on and looked at the den. "Try it now."

When some dirt emerged from the newly dug burrow, Kafiri did what she could to continue helping and started to move the dirt away from the opening to make it easier on her brother. She didn't work as fast as Mezi, though, and soon he poked through. At first she smiled at him, until she saw just how dirty he had gotten. She knew well enough that he wouldn't care much for that, and frowned.

"You're fur got dirty," she commented sadly, hoping he didn't mind too much, "Thank you.."

Kafiri smiled gratefully and crawlled her way back into the little hole that had been dug to test out the new space that Mezi had kindly made for her. It certainly was a better fit, and would last her a bit longer than if she'd left it the way it was. She took a moment to look around her and just enjoy it, and then creeped outward.

"It's great, Mezi," she said, genuinely happy.

The youngster smiled warmly. Now, at least, his sister would have a nice place to run to when Mom got extra moody. If this was supposed to be a happy hide away, though, it needed a bit of decorating. Now that they had moved around some of the dirt, the plant life had been dishelved. That just wouldn't do. "We should get some flowers around the area. If they like it, they might grow here." He figured the flowers would like Kafiri, though. She was sure sweet enough, and if the little plants liked him, they'd love her.

With that same pleasant look on his face, Mezi plodded through the leaf covered floor towards a patch of wild flowers. He peered at them for a few moments, trying to find a bunch that would match his sister's coat. A few white ones, a couple of pink... He snatched them up in his mouth and brought them over to the root, placing them in the dirt as best he could. Luckily, a few of them had at least some root left, and had a bit of hope to start growing in the freshly turned soil. "See any you like?" He motioned to all around them. There were plenty of sizes, shapes and colors to choose from.

Kafiri had to take a moment to really think about what they had just done, seeming to stare right through her brother as he declared the need for flowers and started his search. She'd never imagined being so happy in the company of her family, it always seemed so tense around them all- except for Aunt Ajali, but even she was a little strange since she had to balance for mother's bad side. It was nice, and she only hoped it would last.

"Ok," she said finally, and crept her way out of the burrow just before Mezi made his returned from gathering up some pink and white flowers. She took a moment to admire them, and smile at Mezi, "I like the ones you picked, are there more?"

]The youngster nodded absently and flicked his tail in the direction of the patch. He was preoccupied with attempting to get the flowers to stand up straight once again, and was beginning to tune his sister out. His eyes were glued to one of the white flowers, his paws on either side of the stem, keeping it in an upright position. He shoveled dirt over the bottom part of the stem in an attempt to bury the roots, but it wasn't exactly working as well as he'd like it to. A little, pink tongue stuck out of the side of his mouth as an extra attempt to concentrate. Finally, he gave up. Letting the thin stem sag to the side a bit. Maybe it'd get better with time.

Mezi sat back to stare at the array of flowers he had just strewn around the opening of the den. "Hmm... Pink and white you like? I think it looks pretty nice..." He sighed contently, sort of proud of his work. In truth, it looked a bit like a mess. Any adult could tell that it was made by little ones. To a cub's eye, though, or at least to this cub's eye, it was a masterpiece.
