Richard cocked her head at that. "Ticket off the island? How do you figure that?" She would explain the chaos the existence of the loyalty serum might cause but wanted to hear how Thom thought the laptop could get him off the island first. To Richard it was just a data repository.

"I don't know," he admitted with a shrug. "I'm terrible with computers. But of all th' people on this island, someone must know their way around with it. If someone can tweak it a bit, or hack into th' labs with it, or anythin' of the sort, we may be able to contact th' mainland. It's no guarantee... but it's still a possibility. It's somethin' more than settin' th' laptop back in th' labs 'ands. If they know you 'ave it, they'll take it from you."

Richard was certain that a laptop given to an islander would not be capable of reaching the mainland. She wasn't that optimistic or naive. She stifled a snort at the idea. "Well we won't know whats on it unless we get it powered up will we? I think whats on it might cause some strife up at the labs if we make it known. That might cause some chaos we could take advantage of. I doubt its able to do anymore on the network than a normal laptop can but we can't know for sure until we get it working. If I could see it, then it might give me a starting point."

"....No," he finally decided, and folded his arms, shaking his head. "I'll keep it, thanks. Even turmoil at th' labs isn't goin' t' do us any good right now. Per'aps later." Shaking his head once more, he drew out of the coil and started away from Richard. "They'll just take it from you."

Richard growled after him. "I said I need to see it, not keep it. You want to know what's on it? Then let me work on the problem. Its not going to do anyone any good buried in a hole." She fought back a snarl. It was so damn close. "What are you waiting for?"

"They'll take it!" he snapped back, without bothering to look back her way. He waved a hand dismissively in her direction, picking his way lazily through the trees. He was in no hurry. He wanted to be sure he wouldn't be followed before he headed back to where he had been hiding. "I'm waiting for the right opportunity. When we need a disruption, we'll 'ave it."

Richard stared daggers into Thom's back and then blinked when she saw the bandage. It was right over the base of Thom's neck. "********, your chipless." She blurted out.
She watched him go, she wanted to follow him, make him tell her where the damn laptop was. There were other methods though, thats what she told herself.

"I'm chipless," he snapped back, and flashed a toothy grin before continuing away, sure that she wouldn't follow. He could do enough damage with the chip still there. No one in their right mind would continue to pester him unarmed with the chip gone. Maybe he would give her the laptop eventually, probably not. He wanted to know what was on it before he let it out of his sight. Where it went after that would be completely up to him.
