Hallie allowed a barely visible smile to cross her face. "Not at all. It was you who suggested the kill, and I was following you anyways." She wasn't much for group hunting, but he had asked and so she had tagged along. It didn't bother her that she didn't get to take part in the kill. Unlike some, she was immune to the thrill of the hunt.

When he offered her to take the first pick, she shook her head. "You brought it down, you should get first pick." Then she lay down on her belly, as if her mind had been set and wasn't able to be changed.

Idly, she licked one of her front paws, acting as if she was busy cleaning herself so that he would take the first bite of the doe. But as she was doing so, she wandered cautiously through his mind. She was afraid of being found out again, but she was curious. He had taken down the doe with such concentration and force of which she'd never witnessed before. And it was easy to see why, now that she had searched through his mind and read his thoughts.

His sister. Again he thought of her. He must really be worried about her, judging from his thoughts. But why would his own sister be trying to kill him?

The seeress shook her head, pulling from his mind. It was troubling.

Dipping his head in acknowledgment of her words, he tore into the hot flesh, swallowing down hunks of tender meat for a good five minutes before he lifted his head again. Licking his chops, he sat beside the carcass, regarding her intently.

"You seem . . . different . . . than other wolves," he murmured after a few silent moments. Than he grinned sheepishly, cursing his wandering tongue. "I don't mean that to be rude . . . but there's something about you . . . "

Tilting his head towards the kill, he asked, "Hungry?"

Continuing to idly groom her fur, the female waited until the male had had enough and until he invited her to join in on the meal. Normally she liked to have some power, but in this case she didn't much mind standing on the sidelines and watching. After all, with the way that he had taken down the doe there was no telling what he could do to someone smaller than him.

As he commented that she was different than other wolves, she stopped mid-lick and glanced up at him with emotionless eyes. Then she broke her indifference by smiling at him.

"Everyone has something that sets them apart. What do you think it is that is so different about me as to bring you to mention it?" she asked, completely at ease on the outside. Yet, on the inside, she was nervous and shaking. She hated talking about her powers and being accidentally discovered. It proved to her that she had a lot to learn about controlling herself. And if she had so much to learn... there was no telling what would happen.

When he asked if she was hungry, she smiled again. "Yes, I think I am." Rising to her paws, she stretched slightly then made her way to the kill. Standing above it, she eyed the dead doe for a moment before tearing into the warm meat. It was so delicious, she couldn't help but take another mouthful.

Swallowing down her bite, she looked up at him again. "You sure pick a fine doe, Deimos."

The red and white male shuffled his paws, staring at her with interest. How could he explain it? He couldn't tell her that he had envisioned her golden eyes in a dream once, only then they had been solid gold, unmarred by the black of pupils.

She would surely think him insane.

Finally, he shrugged. "I don't know."

At her compliment of his kill, his ears went back in embarrassed pleasure. He had taught himself how to hunt, and it felt nice to know he had done a good job.

Sitting next to the kill, Hallie eyed the male. But she wasn't making judgements or anything of the sort. Rather, she was trying to figure him out. Even with her seer powers there were times where some wolves were simply a mystery to her. Of course, that was also partly due to the fact that she didn't like to nose around too much in the minds of others. She didn't want to end up hurting someone accidentally.

But she was curious about this one. He was different in his own way and she was attempting to figure it out. That's when she found his thoughts about a dream he had once, of her eyes only pupil-less.

The seeress tilted her head slightly and folded her ears back against her skull. "Are you sure they were my eyes?" she asked, not caring at this point whether he found her out or not. She had only been with him a short while but already she felt as if she could trust him. He was a bit cautious of others himself and so anyone like that was alright with her. It was a strange logic, but it worked for her.

"Don't be afraid, Deimos," she spoke. But she was always so fearful of her powers and what she could possibly do in damage. And here she was telling him not to be afraid?

When he becamed embarassed, she smiled a little bit. "Really, it's good meat." And, to prove her point, she lowered her head to take another chunk. She chewed and savored the flavor, making sure it didn't look like she was faking satisfaction--because she wasn't. Then she swallowed the chunk and wagged her tail at him.

"Delicious."

He leaned a bit closer and squinted his own eyes, as if to get a closer look. "I'm almost positive," he answered automatically. "I haven't seen any other wolves with eyes quite the gold of yours . . . "

His voice drifted away like a soft breeze, and he stared at her, swearing that he hadn't said anything out loud about her eyes. Blinking at her assurance that he shouldn't be afraid, he cocked his head to one side, curiosity now eating away at him.

"Afraid of what, exactly?"

As Deimos leaned in to get a closer look and automatically replied that he was certain they were her eyes, the seeress smiled to herself slightly. He had instigated the subject of their conversation but she had still caught him off guard by continuing it. When he fell silent she took the opportunity to speak in turn.

"So you saw my eyes, but they had no pupils. I'm not sure my eyes have ever been without their pupils, but I can say that it isn't impossible."

When he found his voice again, Hallie withdrew slightly and looked down at the ground. It was true, she trusted him a little, but she was still uneasy talking about her powers with anyone else. Her powers alienated her from the rest of the wolf species and she wasn't sure when her luck would run out and when she'd find someone who despised her for her abilities.

"Afraid of me," she whispered, still not looking at him. "I don't like to use my powers against others. In fact, I don't like to use them very much at all. There's nothing you need to worry about." Her voice was so tense that it was almost as if she were begging him not to be afraid, instead of simply telling him that he needn't be. Her ears folded back and she waited nervously for his reaction.

"Powers?" Blinking, he cocked his head to the side, curiosity shining like blue fire in his eyes. The tip of his tail had started to twitch spastically, as if it wanted to wag, but didn't want to give itself away.

The last thing on his mind was fear, if the emotion was even in there at all.

"I've never met a wolf with powers," he mused, thinking back on all the wolves he'd met in his short life. Than he blinked again and his eyes refocused on her, ears pricked in her direction. "What can you do?" He hoped he wasn't prying, because it seemed like these powers of hers, or at least talking about them, made her uncomfortable.

Seeing her ears against her skull, he added, "I'm not afraid . . . "

Hallie bit her lower lip slightly. The male really hadn't figured it out yet. She wondered why. She knew he wasn't stupid or dense, but what other reason could there be? Maybe he had never heard of seers before. But surely...?

When he asked what she could do, she took in a deep breath, as if preparing herself for something. And, in a sense, she was. She was always uncomfortable with someone who was new to her powers. She was always afraid that they would reject her or treat her differently just because she was 'blessed' with a few more talents than the average wolf. Even though in her eyes it was a bit of a curse.

Looking up at him, she spoke gently within his mind.

"Well, first off, I can do this." She took in another breath, worried that she would hurt him. When she was nervous, it was harder for her to control her powers. She didn't want to do something that would harm him and that she would feel guilty for.

"I am glad that you can say you aren't afraid. But are you sure you mean it?"

Deimos blinked in astonishment upon hearing Hallie's voice in his head. At first, he thought she had spoken out loud, but her maw hadn't moved, he was sure of it. It was the oddest feeling, and he realized that he had felt it before, when he had first met her.

"You can see wolves' thoughts, can't you?" he asked quietly, wondering how much she had heard/seen. Then he realized she probably had heard that thought as well. "You're a Seer, aren't you? I didn't think they existed . . . " He had heard stories though; tales passed through the forest of one Seer in particular. Zeus, an enormous wolf that had been alpha of a great pack. A wolf that had had a jagged band of color across his eyes, like Deimos' father. Like him . . .

Not for the first time, he wished he knew the rest of his family. Wished that Moirai wasn't out for his blood, but instead wanted to learn more about her brother.

Snorting the thought away, he focused his eyes again on Hallie. "I'm sorry, Hallie. But I'm still not afraid." He said the words with a warm smile, his tail wagging gently behind him.
