I personally like Copernicus and Galileo for defying the Catholic church and pushing a Heliocentric theory rather than the commonly-accepted Geocentric. And what about Columbus, the best known non-scientist to prove that the earth is round?

I also like Galileo!
And Einstein theories have always intrigued me and racked my brain!

I believe Aristotle was the first to theorize that the earth was round.
Columbus thought he had proved his theory...
but Ferdinand Magellan was the first to sail completely around the world!!

Columbus can suck a toe!
haha
He never discoved or proved anything.
whee

(jesting) but I am not too fond of him.

The Wright Brothers should technically be indirectly famous. Because of them, we have scientists who have created jet planes and military aircraft.

Also, they are indirectly famous because other scientists, after discovering flight, created rockets and deep space probes, which led through medical breakthroughs, and led to many inventions, like sun glasses.

Newton is my Freaking role model, Let me go down the list of things he did.
-Discovered and mathematically proved gravity
-founder of the known basic laws of Physics
-Founder on much of Optics and wrote a book about it
-wrote the Pricipia
-Invented Calculus(Differential at least, and don't tell me Liebniez did because they technically both invented it independantly with out knowledge of each others work.)
-Nearly Discovered Electricity
-Built the Reflecting telescope
-was master of the mint for England and totally re-did the English currency system, and he effectivly tracked down and put to justice multiple counterfeiters.
-If He had lived like 50 more years he probably would have set the foundation for Quantum physics too I think. After all he had believed that light moved as a wave and theorized that light was also a particle.
-He also Proved that the moon and sun are what affect the tides of the Ocean.

It is thanks to his laws and equations he formed nearly 300 years ago that allow our Shuttles and satelites to be put into orbit.
Yeah I read(and watched) a Biography on him soooo.....yeah. mrgreen

Something about STring Theory?
Anyone know anything about this?
Well I know a little of it....basically it's saying that there are extremely small(and boy do I mean small) "rings" that compose everything and determine demention. In relations to this and gravity, think of a plane to be our universe and that these "rings" become sort of like arches that are connected on both sides to the plane our dimension. Gravity, in comparsion to other forces, is very weak, and it's thought that this is true because gravity is not tethered down onto our dimension, and that gravity can move freely between dimensions so long as it's not attatched to mass. It's weird and hard to Explain....but that's the best I can put it..... xp

yes, something along those lines.

I recall something about gravity and dimentions.

It really is hard to explain and follow.

I'm totally gonna go research the string theory now.

Well, I went to research this and found to my displeasure that to fully understand it I need to take like, Calc 3 or something. However I was able to Derive from my quick research that String theory is essentially a Quantum Gravitational theory, since superstring theory is more about how Gravitons behave, specifically at a distance of 0 between particles. Einstein tried to figure this out and even his Equations came to an end when a distance of 0 was applied to it. Yes, Einstein was actually wrong about something. xd But anywho, string theory instead of looking at gravitons behaving at a point of 0 distance instead involves a String that makes a pulled out area for particales to meet at open ends of these strings and then connect to from a circular string that contains the energy of what would then become a graviton which is essentially the tension created by the particales involved at a distance of 0.

That's what I got from it, but like said I need to take some more math classes before I can fully understand what I'm looking at. xp

yeah, I'm not very good at math myself. I mean I get into it and understand it, but when it comes down to my tests I always bommed, I pulled threw Precal and Cal one with minimum passing grades.
I got C's in both.

I'd have to go with Newton. But Einstein is up there, I'm a special fan of the hair. Especially since when I was three I had kind of a fro going on in my passport picture.

But anyways, Newton. Just look at everything he did and there you go.

Newton's everyone's favorite. xd He was an amazing scientist!

But Einstein is my #1
I really admire him, plus I also love the hair!
haha

Yeah for hair!! rofl rofl
It reminds me of lots of brilliant young minds of today - who has time for such things as combing your hair when there is soo much to discover and learn - invent and develop - blaugh

Yup, I pretty much wake up and take shower. End story, no combing of my hair.

einstein is my idol and no doubt that he's the smartest human ever to have lived... so far... until i get to university and finish i mean

I had a hard time choosing between Einstein and DaVinci, but really, my favorite is Jung. He and Freud developed some theories on the human mind together, but while Freud basically attributed everything to sex, Jung went into archetypes, the collective unconscious, etc...while I like Freud, I could understand and agree with Jung's ideas more.

I have a person not very many people know about and I absolute love her!

Rosalind Franklin. She would've won a Nobel Prize if she had not died of cancer before the awards were given out....D:

She was the one who helped figure out what the "secret of life" was. She took early photos of DNA and helped contribute to modern day DNA research. Without her work, we wouldn't know about heredity or genetics.

I also love her because she fought past the discrimination of the men in King's College in London to finish her work on DNA.

Can you believe she did Arithmatic for fun?!
