I may possibly fall into the 'bad cliche' on this one, but for me, it's honestly alot about whose smaller and bigger, height wise. But actually, I might be a bit turned around, since I like the smaller, generally 'cuter one' to play the 'bottom role', while at the same time, I like them being on top only for cuddling. Hmmm.... ninja

I think, that for some odddddddddddddddddddddddd reason. If it's a couple involving a protagonist of the text. [Eg. SasuxNaru = Naruto] then he is at the bottom. So if it's Bleach, Ishida and Ichigo... Ichigo would bottom. Likewise for Harry Potter, Harry and Draco. Harry would bottom. It's just a thing of mine. One Piece, Zoro and Luffy <<< this is of a different reason. Can you see LUFFY being ON TOP OF ZORO? burning_eyes NOOOO. That would be just weird. No?
Reasons: Luffy is all 'bouncy' and happy while Zoro is aloff and 'distant'.
Zoro is older than Luffy. Which I don't really think should matter but in most cases it does, for other people. >_< I mean, if you think about, what ***** goes after a 5 yr old to top himself? talk2hand
Luffy is so much 'cuter' than Zoro and less muscular looking thus making him the more 'effeminate' of the two. And for various other reasons it's more sexy that the first mate is 'topping' the captain. WOAH! Do I sense a ranking disorder?! YEOWZA. We need more ZoLu. It's cute, hot, sweet, angsty and ZORO IS HOTT. 8D

A lot of people like the give and take relationships, but for some reason or another, whenever I like a couplings, I usually have firm beliefs on who should be the uke and who should be the seme.
Usually, to determine these roles, I put the prettier one on the bottom. Younger preferably, shorter too. Basically, the one that has an androgynous look to him.
The seme I prefer to be someone that won't abuse his position, taller than his uke, stronger than his uke, likes to pamper/spoil his uke, fiercely protective of his uke...and I think you get the idea. sweatdrop
I also like my ukes to be angsty and then have a fluffy ending where everybody is happy...or at least mostly everybody. *shrugs* I dunno, I just like putting my ukes through tons and tons of angst and then have the seme come and sweep the uke off his feet.
sweatdrop I think I'm a sucker for fluff and sweetness and angst and all that jazz. I can cry over the well written fics where a scene is so sweet or when a scene is so sad. xd I'm just weird like that.

I have a tendency of putting the shorter, cuter, more hyper one on the bottom because eventually, they're going to want to give it a rest. xd And if it just so happens that they get that rest while on their backs, knees, sides, against a wall, on a table, in a closet, the floor by the bed... then, who are we to judge? I adore the cold, sadistic, tall-as-a-sky-scraper seme on top giving it hard and fast to the uke who begged for it Iswearhedidhonest by being all "lookit me bum, isn't just bugger-licious?".
Or maybe that's just my ideal dream, with me being an uke and all. Hm, who knows.

But it depends a lot on the character. Height, age and personality play an important part as well. Couldn't have said it better myself. 3nodding

I believe that the submissive one should be on bottom, just thinking about someone who is controlling, dominate, and kinky on top is exciting. He knows what he wants and he takes it, isn't afraid to give out a punishment.
