Once she was settled and comfortable, the mare glanced back to him and smiled. It was when he snorted and lowered his head again that caused him to blink. What is he doing? She thought, quirking a brow inquisitively. It made her wonder if he was just hiding again, or something else. Whatever the reason is, she wouldn't question it... at least, not yet anyways.
"Am I alright?" She repeated for a moment, curious as to why he brought it up, "yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" Did she look ill? She wondered. Perhaps she was out in the sun for too long and didn't realize it. She didn't think that simply lying down would stir up the question, so she continued to think of what it could have been.

"Most do not lie down in the middle of the open." He responded flatly, clearly unimpressed as his attempts to show concern were spurned. Nevertheless, as she offered a small smile he flattened his ears somewhat hesitantly and shook his head; why did she have to smile? The fact that he had leapt to conclusions forced him to assume that the smile was that of amusement as opposed to gratitude.
Moppet, his mother, offered him a light pat from where she sat.
"Particularly when it is light, predators may abuse it." And he had a point, given a soquili's long legs they would struggle to pull themselves to their feet as rapidly as a predator could run. Granted, while he had spikes lining his body, most were not afforded that protection - she most certainly wasn't. At this thought he glanced briefly at her wings and the delicate film that made the bulk of them.
Would they heal if they were torn?

"Oh? Then why are you doing it?" She questioned with a slight toss of her mane. It was a legit question, seeing on how his own statement made him seem like a hypocrite. The mare couldn't feel like that for long, he was only showing concern after all. "You don't have to answer that really. It was just an odd question. I guess I didn't like standing over you like that."
At the mention of predators, she shifted a bit nervously. Although she hasn't heard much about any predator attacks or things of the likes, she couldn't fool herself into believing that there weren't any around at all. Thinking more about her question on how he was laying down in the open, made her feel silly for asking the question in the first place. He was probably more capable to protect himself rather than she was. Shifting again, she glanced to him. "I can always stand back up if you want me to. If it'll make you feel better."

The damage ad been done and it was with a swift grunt that he pulled himself up. Given his height, he would positively tower over the little flutter but for all intend and purpose he had stood up for a reason. She had asked him a legitimate question, he was being careless and yet he had no reason to fear an attack. Ah yes, on closer inspection it would take a very brave soul to attack this abomination.
Flicking his amber eyes towards her, his expression seemed to be a mixture of messages. While uncomfortable at the potential scrutiny another part of him pointed out that she had to see and had to understand. Therefore, it was with a shake of his head that he unfurled the wings upon his back, the peculiar limbs folding down and then twisting up as though they were actually the wrong way round.
Once fully unfurled, it was easy to see the spikes lining the tips and the armour that lay beneath upon his legs and hooves. He could scarcely recall when it had been put on, it had been so long ago and yet he had grown accustomed to it. While there were occasions when he was interested to know how it felt without it, the entire look boosted his confidence.
Granted - he felt like the abomination he was but no one bothered him.
"This is why." His tone was somewhat darker, ominous and less than comfortable. No longer could he hide his appearance and he certainly couldn't hide those gleaming horns on his head. Alas, now was the time in which he began to slowly and mentally count from ten down - until the moment when the little one bolted.
"You may lie down if you choose, it is your choice as opposed to mine but I sincerely doubt anything or anyone would attempt to assault the likes of me." As he spoke the bitter words his fangs appeared briefly before he was able to hide them beneath his top lip once more. "Do you?"

Golden eyes watched as the other lifted himself onto his feet. He didn't seem so large when he was laying down... or could that have been because she was standing during the time? Whatever the reason, she couldn't help but look almost in awe as he towered over her.
Her gaze never seemed to leave him as she took his image in, especially the odd wings that unfurled at his sides. Piece by piece, she put things together... or at least tried to. Could he really be a kalona that she's heard much about? But he just didn't seem like it. Weren't kalonas these blood thirsty horses that couldn't stand the sight of another soquili besides their own?
Perhaps he was trying to trick her by acting the way he was. But then, what was the reason Moppet had to lie to her? She shook the thoughts from her head as he spoke to her, frowning slightly at the tone.
Slowly, she stood herself back up, tail flicking lightly once she was back onto her feet. She had no choice but to look up to the stallion, inwardly damning her diminuative height. At his question, she tilted her head cheekily, "No, but I don't think they'll have enough gall to go after a wily mare as well."
Okay, that was a bad joke, but it was half true... she'll at least go down fighting.

"Really?" Azumoth was stunned at her true height, in comparison to him she was so incredibly small. It made her seem all the more delicate and seemed to simply confirm his worries. One so small, despite their wings, would be an easy target...especially when they couldn't see what lay at extreme distances. As a foal, when he had been smaller, he had noticed that he struggled but this mare was an adult.
...What must it be like to look so fragile? To be so fragile. His eyes shifted to her wings again, a feature he seemed unable to ignore or accept. It was hard to explain, but such vulnerable limbs caused a strange stirring within his chest and caused the orb within it to glow fiercely.
Without giving himself the time to think, he leant forward, his muzzle barely inches away from hers and smirked. The cold gleam flickered into his eyes and he released a soft chuckle - she assumed no one would take on a wily mare? Apparently she hadn't met many stallions who would find no difficult in making themselves known to her.
...Such a dangerous world to live in.
"I would." He pointed out softly.

Ayanna just replied with a simple nod as she watched him. How she wished she was taller, so she didn't have to crane her head so much just to see him. She hoped not everyone she met towered over her like this.
She seemed to have noticed his attention going back and forth between her and her wings. It made her wonder what he was thinking, especially now when she caught sight of the orb in his chest started to glow.
Curiously, she brought her head closer to it to get a better look, only to get his muzzle just a few inches away from hers. She took a slight step back as she blinked and glanced to him. At his words, she snorted and nudged his head away from hers. "I'm sure you would, but just because I'm small doesn't mean I won't fight back."

And just like that, the slightest of movements and she had made herself clear. His head remained positioned in the manner she had pressed it away from her own and his eyes gaze away, in the direction he had been pointed in. The dull of the orb in his chest was considerable and it was only after a few moments that he released a snort.
Unsurprisingly, his expression became somewhat bitter as he lifted himself to his full height. Adjusting his weight, his eyes grew cold and glancing pointly towards his 'mother', it was almost as though he was exchanging a hidden message which involved the words 'I told you so' in it or rather 'I rest my case'...Whatever the message might have been, the little raccoon could only release a small sigh and shake her head.
"Perhaps not, but you lack the strength to cause substantial damage." He was of course referring to her height in comparison to his own. Granted, he was a big creature, but she was one of the smallest mares he had ever seen and many stallions were much taller than her... Actually, she was probably the perfect size for a lion to latch its jaws around!
"That is all I meant."

Once again, she took notice of the orb on his chest and how it faded from the previous bright glow it had to it. Did this mean something was wrong? She couldn't be sure if it did, what it was or if she had caused it, unless he would tell her.
These thoughts rested in the back of her head as he stated that she didn't have any strength. Why was being small such a hinderance? She had no problems with it before... well, before meeting him that is. "I still don't see how that matters. There are many times I've seen small birds attack birds much larger than themselves and succeed at driving it away."

"Would you like to test that theory?" Raising a brow, the equine flicked his whip like tail against his flank and continued to look down upon the tiny flutter. It was strange, while in unfamiliar territory it seemed his worst sides always came to the forefront. Unsurprisingly, his 'mother' had opted to find something else to occupy her time and had left her 'son' to endure the company of the mare...alone.
Not the wisest of decisions if he said so himself.
...But Moppet had her reasons.
"I would be rather interested to see how much of an impact you could make against something my size." A small smile flicked onto his lips, allowing the fangs beneath to become more visible. With his blood boiling with emotions between anticipation and desire, it was suitably easier to ignore his own complexities. The thrill of the chase was an odd one, a challenge spurred him on and he often forgot how he looked on those occasions.
She seemed so confident, so certain of herself and there was a part of him that almost believed her. She just had to prove that she was as strong as she thought herself...With such emotions running through his mind it was unsurprising that the orb in his chest began to low with a greater intensity once more.

With his words, her eyes went wide for a moment, stepping back slightly. She couldn't help but think of what she had gotten herself into. She let out a small snort as she thought this through.
It was probably too late to get herself out of this as her tail flicked. Sometimes, her mouth was too big for her own good. Well, it's never gotten herself in trouble before, but she just had that inner feeling that it would one day... and what a day it had to.
Here she was, looking up to this stallion with fangs and horns, towering over her. Perhaps she could get speed on her side? She would have to hope it did. "Hmm... I bet you would."

I thought so...
Narrowing his eyes, the stallion allowed himself the slightest of smiles. It was only slight, barely a shift of features but a twinkle came to his eyes as he waited expectantly for the mare to make her move. Granted, he had presented her with a rather surprisingly and...questionable challenge that the majority of females would have giggled their way out of but she had not.
He was impressed.
Therefore, it was with a slightly bob of his head that he released a delicate sigh. The adrenaline coursing through his body began to dull, calm and his thoughts became much clearer. It was a much more satisfying feeling, to experience that sense of control and discipline over his own form - it left less chance that he would make...unfortunate mistakes?
"You are aware that I jest?" Perhaps, it was more suitable for him to give her the easy way out. Should he present his challenge as something little more than a farce then she would feel more comfortable backing out? It would enable her to maintain her dignity without ruffling feathers (so to speak) - or such was his line of thought.
"I would not ask such things from one such as yourself." His tone was somewhat softer at this.

Her wings fluttered almost nervously as she shifted slightly. Unknowing of what he would do next, she prepared herself for a possible attack as much as she could. Although it wouldn't do much good, she stood her ground, unaware that he was waiting for her to make the first move.
What he did next caught her off guard. Did he just bow his head? What was that supposed to mean to her? Perhaps he was just trying to trick her, as she eyed him a bit carefully. It was at his words that caused her to feel like her heart sank. 'He was just teasing?!' Was it really as simple as that? It sure didn't feel that way, but hey, she wasn't going to look a gift... er, horse in the mouth.
"You sure do know how to make someone have a heart attack though." She replied with a soft nicker. "May I ask why?" She questioned, in response to his last statement. It was mere curiousity, she didn't want to find herself in the previous situation again.

"It is a gift," His tone was dull and matter-of-fact in reference to the heart attacks, given his appearance and rather cold visage it was unsurprising that he had the knack to make people panic. That being said, as the minutes progressed he was beginning to become more accustomed to the petite female before him and was more inclined to...relax? Perhaps that wasn't the perfect word to describe how he felt but he wasn't as determined to scare her away.
...So she was aware of his flaws, how he looked at the potential danger but she had her quirks and her strengths, enough for him to believe that regardless of how he looked there was a hint of respect. It may only have been respect for what he was (as opposed to who he was), but at least she wasn't looking at him in disgust.
"As to why I jest...I sincerely doubt that blood would suit your pelt, I would not be the only one to confess that I prefer it to look so pristine..." At this, he shifted uncomfortably and turned his gaze a little to the left. She was a beauty and blood certainly wouldn't have suited her one little bit but providing anyone with a compliment left him reeling and he wasn't even on the receiving end!

At his tone, she frowned slightly as she thought about what she previously said. "Oh.. I didn't mean it against you. I'm sorry if it offended you in anyway Azu... truly not my intention." She gave him a small smile, feeling awkward with herself for once again, speaking before thinking about what she says.
The stallion before her wasn't as bad as he looked. Almost a good example of the saying 'his bark is worse than his bite', though what happened not too long ago did creep her out, joke or not.
Once she heard his explination, a small flush quickly appeared on her face, slightly taken aback. Did he just compliment her? It sure did sound like one, and so she gave him a bow of her head in response. "Oh, I see. Thank you. Hmm... anyways, care to have a drink with me? That was your reason for coming this way if I remember correctly, was it not?" She offered softly, turning and slowly heading in the direction of the lake.
