They did not "bring it upon themselves". The Texans did immigrate to a new country, then they did usurp it. However, "they did little to deter later texans from ceding from mexico", doesn't make sense. After all, we did fight over it. After they lost Texas, Mexico was so angry, they overthrew Santa Ana. It was half their country that had been taken. In fact, the United Stares refused to annex Texas for several years, because they did not want to start a war with Mexico.
The battle of the Alamo was not very significant, except that the Mexican army killed those who surrendered. This was horrifying to Americans, so the Texan Army recieved many volunteers from the States who wanted revenge for the dead soldiers.
ps. I will ignore that last bit as that would take us off topic (or else I would mention the uselessness of Peace Corps - if you want to argue about that send me a pm.)

thenerdqueen I live in Southern California, and yet can still feel compassion for these poor people who are suffering from the aftermath of a corrupt government. Many illegal immigrants run here because they look to us as the golden country, just as several other ethnicities have. Our goverment does not have a very efficient immigration policy currently. The poor are not allowed to even attain a green card to work in America. In fact, for most "illegals", breaking the law is the only way for them to attain their dreams. I do not know anything about our current heath care laws, does anyone know the website for the current health care laws? -the nerd queen- Ps. If I sound harsh, it is because I feel strongly upon the subject. I am sorry if I hurt people's feelings, but can't people try to see it from the opposite sides point of view? yeah for the health care, were the only country in the world that doesent give free health care to everyone but in every other country they pay for it threw high taxes.

Actually, we aren't the ONLY country, we just happen to be one of the rare countries who doesn't give free health care to all. (We do to poor and low - middle class people)
