He had to admit, the dragon had a point. In his condition, over this terrain, he didn't stand a fighting chance. He could always throw himself into the river and allow himself to be swept downstream, though he was slowly realizing that this might not be necessary. He was perfect prey at this point: wounded, cornered, and physically weaker. However, he had not yet been eaten. This was undoubtedly a good thing. He allowed himelf to relax slightly, though not completley. He was still pinned between a rock and a hard place, and also a dragon.
"No..." Gale kept his pale eyes on the fangs in front of him, transfixed. "But... what would I be if... I didn't try?" The awkward pauses in his speech were more evident than ever, as this was the longest speech he'd delivered since his capture by the flaming brigade.

Calen'loki rather liked this young man, he was clearly afraid but he kept his wits about him. Calen'loki closed his mouth. It was time to show this human that he had no intention of eating him.
You would be a rather boring prey. And there is no point in eating a boring prey. But I am rather intrigued by that white stone in the back of your neck, last time I checked humans didn't have that there.
Calen'loki looked over his shoulder in the direction the human had run from.
Takes someone very determined to climb down a cliff with an injured ankle. Oh, and I am known as Calen'loki.

Relief surfaced on Gale's near-white features, follwed rapidly by confusion. His left hand shot up compulsively to cover the stone in his neck. "You...don't know? But then...how are dragons bound if...not with prayer stones?" He had always assumed that the method would be the same, and ToK would be littered with people with rocks stuck in them. "Calen'loki..." He pronounced the name carefully, it felt strange compared to Anjt names.

Dragons are bonded with a human from birth, we do not need anything like that prayer stone.
Calen'loki had never heard of a prayer stone before and didn't particularly care for the smell that came from the one that was in Gales neck, perhaps one of the other dragons would know what it was, he would be able to communicate with the others after a little bit of flight.
So, what exactly were you planning on doing once you got into the forest?

"I am going to ToK...to seek...help." He bent down and picked up his red cloak, the bottom of which had been trailing in the stream for the past few minutes. He appeared to relax a bit more as he donned it and his neck was once again covered. "There is a star-fallen...an Anjt spirit...bound to me, a bit like a dragon...I cannot control it sometimes..." He looked almost helpless as he admitted this truth, the slouching, colorless young man with the bizarre problem.

Calen'loki thought he might have heard of a star-fallen before but he hadn't been paying attention at the time. Now that there was one in front of him he wished he had been paying attention. Calen'loki seemed to be lost to his curiosity and began barraging the human with questions.
No control huh? I wanna see this some time. Sounds interesting. Is a star-fallen shiny? I came up this way by myself to try out one of the goats. They don't taste as good as I had hoped. I came from Tok, that is where I came into this world from but I don't know if I am supposed to be talking about that and I think that you are really interesting because most people wouldn't try that hard to get away. This area is really interesting you know, besides the goats, which were a big disappointment there are a lot of really tasty deer.

Gale blinked once in astonishment, and decided to answer all the dragon's questions in order. "Yes...it mostly involves destruction...er...yes again...thanks...and I am happy for you..." He paused for a moment, thinking. This dragon seemed to have taken a liking to him, which was a rare event. He also ate goats, which Gale counted as plus since he and goats got along poorly. "I...feel awkward asking, but...would you be okay...with helping me get to ToK? With my ankle..." He gestured towards his foot, which he was holding a bit off the ground. It was throbbing dully.

Calen'loki lowered his head so that he could get a close look at the foot; first he sniffed followed a heavy breath that blew the pant leg covering the ankle up slightly.
You humans are so fragile. Your bones are so small and brittle. How can you stand it?
Calen'loki raised his head again so that his jade eyes were level with the humans eyes.
I came north to take care of something but I can't seem to remember what. Something to do with somebody of some amount of importance. But I suppose I could take you to Tok, on the condition you tell me your name, which you have declined to offer.

He met the dragon's eyes momentarily before redirecting his pale gaze back towards the ground. In that moment he'd had a look of uncertainty in his eyes, as though unsure how to identify himself. He spoke quietly:"I am Gale..."

Calen'loki hardly noticed Gales uncertainty because he was mostly happy to have found somebody new to talk with, all of the dragons had already heard all of his stories.
I can take you to some friends of mine, Gale, I am sure that they will know how to deal with you. And on the way I could tell you about the time I found the moose with the funny looking nose.

Gale stared blankly at the dragon. He had no idea what a moose was, and assumed that it was some sort of small rodent. "That sounds nice...I suppose..." He hobbled forwards, eager to get going. The idea that there was someone who could help him was like a flickering matchstick of hope in his chest, the first he'd felt in a good long time. If he could learn on the way of moose, then that was an added bonus.
((I'm pretty sure that the plural of moose is moose...))

Calen'loki lowered his shoulder so that Gale could get on then, remembering the injured ankle, created a set of stairs for Gale to climb and then launched into the story that he had told many times before.
Now, I don't particularly care for moose meat because I prefer the texture of deer and deer are much more fun to chase because they have this funny little jumping motion that they do while running but moose simply aren't as entertaining but anyway I was hunting this moose because I decided that I had been having to much deer lately and just felt like having something different. . .

Upon clambering up to the dragon's soulders, Gale was surprised to find out how soft he was. Just from looking at him, Calen'loki might have been made of rocks, and he was mildly surprised to find that he could feel actual flesh and muscle working under the armor-like scales. He sat high up on the dragon's back, above the wings. As he listened to the story with mild interest, it suddendly ocurred to him for the first time that he would probably be flying. He felt a jolt of excitement iand fear in the pit of his stomach, which he quickly quieted. Though he'd spent the past few weeks getting used to altitudes in the mountainside town, this would undoubtedly be very, very different.
He also came to realize that a moose was not a small rodent, but something that can be hunted like a deer. He was now extremely confused.

Calen'loki was so caught up in his story that he failed to warn Gale that he was taking off. The large muscles tensed and suddenly he was in the air he set a course directly to where the dragons had last been but still went to the side whenever he noticed an odd tree or rock formation just out of curiosity. Calen'loki hugged the top of the trees to make sure that he was not spotted but after he was sure he would not be seen by anyone he ascended so that he could ride the thermals to conserve energy.

Gale felt a lurch in the pit of his stomach as Calen'loki took to the skies. He held as tightly as he could to the dragon's smooth scales and watched the ground recede. As they gained altitude, the wind whipped and stung at his face, and he screwed up his colorless eyes and hunched down as low as he could. Aside from his mild discomfort, however, he felt all his misgivings about flight disappearing. He felt at home in the sky, and for a moment harbored the delusion that he could suspend himself in the sky and hang there, watching the moon rise.
He leaned forwards, partly to dispell his strange fantasy, and shouted over the wind at Calen'loki. "Are we nearly there?"
