Shinta appeared in Hikari's room with her in his arms. Cheebs perched his shoulder. The little keros winked at Shinta, then flew over to the bed and pulled down the bedspread so Shinta could lay down Hikari. Kneeling by the bed, Shinta tucked her in and brushed the hair from her forehead.
"Thank you Cheebs."
Cheebs sniffled and fluttered his wings. I hope Hikari-dono will be okay Shinta.
Shinta smiled back reassuringly. "Let us hold back our fears for now, and let her rest. We will know what to do when she wakes."
Cheebs only sniffled again and flew into his arms.

She was pretty surprised every time she teleported anywhere around the Pagoda, so she was still amazed to find herself in Hikari's room only by thinking about it. Partially relieved that she'd made it in one piece, she helped Shinta to arrange Hikari comfortably on her bed and drew a light blanket over her still form.
"Now all we can do is wait..."
((I'm heading to bed. I'm EXHAUSTED! ^^))

Shinta nodded and ran his thumb gently over Hikari's cheek. "Your premonitions, they rarely arrrive when you would most appreciate them do they?" The swordsman's face was lined with worry for his friend. Nothing made Shinta feel more frustrated and upset than to see someone he cared for in trouble and be unable to do anything about it.

"My visions? Yeah, well they generally do come out of nowhere at the most inconvenient times. Sometimes I can try to force one, but that's kind of dangerous for someone as untrained as I am..."

Shinta nodded and looked back at Hikari. "This lowly one meant that the future is rarely something that can be seen at times when we would most like to see it. It was an expression of frustration."

((**oops, I hadn't noticed you had already moved in here... posting right after waking up in the morning is maybe not so good an idea =P Well, I posted assuming I was still in the kitchen... so go read that post first...**
I wish I could stay up as late as y'all, that's one part of college I really miss...))
*Hikari shifted on the bed slightly. It seemed as though, in her dreams, she was being taken through her childhood chronologically. She had aged to about 14 and it was the last year of peace before the year of attacks began. Her father was already beginning to teach her the ways of metalworking. She was covered in water and grease and soot from the fire and had nicked her finger on a sharp blade...the first one she had ever made successfully. She ran into the house and up to her mother, who cleaned the small wound and bandaged it. She tried in vain to clean the dirt from her face and hands but Hikari squirmed in her mother's grasp, wanting to finish her first project, a small dagger. Her mother caught her in a brief hug before Hikari ran back to the workshop. A few hours later, Hikari ran back to her mother, showing her the finished piece. Her mother saw the fine craftsmanship and congratulated her on it. Hikari was beaming... Once again, Hikari spoke unconciously*
Illana...isn't it pretty? I made it for you so you will always be safe

The S.Cole stood next to Hikari's sleeping form. Even without diving into her mind, S.Cole could tell she was reliving her past. In order to contact Hikari's mind, S.Cole would need to tap his physical counterpart's powers for a moment. Focusing his energy, S.Cole began to tap Cole's energy. Once there was a link with the shadow and its master, S.Cole placed a gentle hand upon Hikari's forehead and closed his mind as he entered her mind...

"Illana?" Adhara said, surprised. "That's her mother's name...."
She sat back in the chair she'd pulled up next to Hikari's bed. It was a name that she hadn't heard in years. No one knew what had happened to her after she had been taken out of the village. Not even if she was alive.
"So she's having dreams about her mother? I guess that's not surprising. People usually dream about the things they want the most when they're asleep. Or the things that are bothering them. Maybe it was her mother that spoke to her? But that would mean that...."
((Ha, I'm not in college anymore, remember? I graduated, but I haven't found full time employment yet. Only parttime. But I didn't get much sleep since the people in the apartment above me decided to remodel the bedroom above mine this morning. Grrr!))

((I know you're not in college =P I was just referring to how I could stay up until all hours when I was in college... I'm gotta get to bed around 10 if I want to be awake the next day ;_; ))
*Hikari shifted again in her sleep, although more violently this time. Her father was taking her mother away... The attackers were back. They were coming more rapidly now. She couldn't stay any longer. Her clan of fox demons could fight the attackers better, but too many had to guard her mother who had no powers of her own, save some weak astral magic. This part of her past went by quickly, as though it were merely to set the stage for something else, as opposed to a memory in its own right. The dreams became fuzzy at this point, the lines, contours and colors strained as though someone were painting the scences but suddenly didn't know what they were seeing. Her father was leading her mother through uncountable woods and valleys until it seemed they had travelled to the other side of the world. They came upon some signs of civilization. Over a dozen villages were in the area, with hundreds more within a few days walk. If Hikari's father knew where she chose to go, it would be worthless for they might find out from him and use her... By this time, nothing could be seen but smears of colors and Hikari could feel what was around her but not see. Of course, this wasn't part of her memory...someone was painting the scences for her, but it had become too far removed from her memories that there was no connection anymore. The dreams faded and only a sense of longing was left. Hikari didn't feel sad at these memories/scenes. Her mother had left but it was better than her being under another possible attack. How much longer could she have survived?
Slowly Hikari began to regain conciousness. It took her several moments to distinguish memory from the reality she was now in. The last she remembered was being in the kitchen so it was hard at first to tell this wasn't another part of the dream. But it all felt different. No memories, no feeling of a presence... She felt vulnerable since she had no idea how she had gotten to her room or what had happened. She hated feeling vulnerable...out of control... She looked around and saw Shinta, Adhara and Cole...no wait...a shadow of Cole. She shook her head to try to clear her thoughts and managed to speak in a shaky voice*
Whatever I did, I didn't make too much of a scene did I? I... ...weird... Addie, you'll never believe... I guess I was dreaming... It was all about growing up at home. Remember when you got too close to the priest's shrine where they kept the ceremonial ashes and it made you sneeze and you had to go home covered in soot? It took a week for your ears to be free of it...
*Hikari was left with the strangest feeling after waking up. She felt happier than she had in a long time, but it was a somber happiness... Like thinking about something pleasant, but knowing it is just a memory now makes you just a little sad. *

"Yup, nothing's wrong with her," Adhara let out a long suffering sigh. "She wakes up and one of the first things she says is something vaguely embarassing." Her mouth was grimmacing, but her eyes told a different story. She'd been worried about Hikari, and feeling helpless to do anything for her friend didn't sit well with her.
"You didn't cause too much of a scene. Only shaved a year or three off my life, while you were at it. You feeling better now?"

Well, I dont know... I feel physically okay, a little tired. But, what the hell happened? It was like...it felt like someone was there... I can't stop thinking about it. It felt like...mother was there. I mean, not like she was there, but it felt like her somehow
*Hikari turned to Cole who was sitting next to her. Knowing how he had helped several other people, she figured he might have been able to tell what it was. Or maybe he could help her track down where it came from.*
Cole, can you tell me what that was? It started like an intense wave of pressure, then it felt like it was alive, a prescence of some sort... But it was all like it was just out of reach. Like I could almost tell what it was, but it never quite came together. And I kept dreaming of my mother... I haven't seen her, dreams or anywhere, for years... Could it just be coincidence?

Cheebs woke up on Shinta's shoulder and fluttered up happily over to Hikari's lap. Hikari-dono, you are okay!
Shinta put an arm behind Hikari to help steady her as she shakily sat up in bed. He chuckled softly at Adhara's words, then grew serious at Hikari's questioning. "Hikari-dono, this lowly one now has reason to believe your mother has tried to contact you from another realm."

S.Cole nodded his head in agreement with what Shinta had said... "I believe Shinta has a point. Your mother may have be calling you. Also, there may be something within you that is causing these images to come fourth. If you would allow me, that is, the physical me to explore your mind when he is not busy, perhaps I could uncover the true nature of what is going on."

*Hikari was startled slightly when Cheebs landed on her but she smiled and scratched him behind his ears. Then she tickled his wings for a moment before turning back to Cole. The idea that her mother had tried to contact her...it was very exciting. She hadn't seen her in over 12 years and the idea that she might talk to her again, in any way, filled her with anticipation. However, it it was contact from another realm, that would mean...*
Another realm... Illana, that's my mother's name, she knew some small amount of astral magic. She was taught by our priest so that she might have some sort of protection since she was human. Had she a few more years to work on it, she might not have had to leave during the brief war on our village, but she wasn't very strong with it when she left. I...if it was Illana trying to contact me from another realm...I dont think she is alive.
*Hikari felt a pang of sadness having finally uttered those words. But, wasn't it better to know than to always wonder, never sure of anything about her mother? And if now, they could, even for a moment, even not physically, be together...it shouldn't really be a thing to be sad about*
It can take 10...20 years to become advanced enough to enter the astral plane safely. But...if she's passed beyond, couldn't she reach out much easier? Perhaps she couldn't contact me directly since I can't do astral magic, but she could kind of talk to me through dreams. She was always the central part of the dreams.
Cole, I'm no where near powerful enough to attempt astral magic myself, but you can enter other realms... Could you somehow take me with you, or help me withstand the power? I could try and seek out who that was. If they were trying to contact me, they might also be listening as well as seeking. I would probably only pass out again if I dont have help...

S.Cole nodded his head. He was willing to help but he was going to need his physical self to do so. Cole gave his Shadows alot of free will but not enough energy to do what Hikari was asking for.
"Of course I'll take you there, but I need to wait for my real self to finish with what he is doing before we can go. I need you to be patient for a bit until then."
S.Cole stood up and looked at everyone in the room; Shinta, Adhara, Cheebs and Hikari. He nodded his head before he spoke again.
"Shinta, Adhara, Cheebs, I need you three to inform the others where Hikari and I have gone. I don't want anyone to worry about us while we're away."
