There were a verity of experiments with combining pistols with close-combat weaponry. After all it took an annoying amount of time to reload a firearm and the enemy may be to close for that opportunity. Why combine a sword and gun? After all the Bayonet was intended to turn a rifle into a makeshift spear.

Given modern firearms what I'd rather have as combi-weapon would be Gun-Shield, something that can add a little extra protection while still allowing a clear field of fire. wink
However I don't think we'll see normal modernish guns on Gaia. Now why we don't see more knock offs of early Sci-Fi ray guns is beyond me.
