Kivuli dashed across the open ground, giggling uncontrollably as he caught his brother's reply. He was more than certain that Shin would never ever in a million years catch him now!
... whaaat?
For a moment the cub's frantic leaps and bounds faltered; his brother was passing him again? Shin must be the fastest pridelander in the whole world! If Kiv couldn't catch him, after all, then who could?
Wooow.
Someday I'm gonna be as fast as him! Fueled with purpose, Kiv collected his wild strides and raced up to the edge of the water. He barely managed to skid to a stop and avoid a watery faceplant. Success!
"Shin, how'd you get to be so fast, huh?" Kiv turned adoring silver eyes to his brother and canted his head. "Can you teach me?"

Orange eyes blinked, mane ruffling lightly in the morning air. Amazing how distorted one's view of time and size were distorted when he was only a foot tall. Shin hadn't been running especially fast, in fact he hadn't run at all, a steady lope with a long adolescent stride easily exceeding his young brother's awkward cubbish gait.
After a moment's silence, the teenage maw fell open to release a bright, cheerful laughter, paws dipping into the cool water, absently batting at the colorful fish of the lake.
"Just keep running, you'll be faster than me soon enough."
That statement was of course pure speculation, though Shin did expect his brother to at least be a challenge as he grew older. The adolescent's unusually tall, yet slender build may have inclined him toward speed were athletics an interest of his. But the teenager's interest lie more in the artistic realm, listening to the morning song of waking birds and insects, brooding under the stars as they sparkled in the night sky.

Kivuli wrinkled his nose. He had been running as flat-out fast as he could, and Shin had just gone right on past! He'd have to run every day, all over the place, just to get that fast! He wiggled black-toed paws and sighed. Hopefully someday his paws would fit his body; now they were so big!
The small black cub waded in fearlessly next to his brother, face close to the water and silver eyes intent on the fish just beneath the surface. Wow, they were so --
Agh! Water blinded him and startled the fish away from his sharp gaze.
"Hey!" Kiv blinked and mock-glared up at Shin. "Watch where you're splashin' around!" The cub brought up a paw even as he was speaking and brought it down as hard as he could, sending a wave of glittering water at his brother.

"Hey! Wait--"
Whatever protest was about to leave Shin's maw was cut off in an instant by the wave of water that drenched his dark hide. Eyes narrowed in mock irritation, peering at his brother through the black mane that clung to white fur to obscure his vision.
"Oh you are so going to get it now."
The older lion reared, balancing on his hind paws for a brief moment before allowing his body to fall forward, forepaws breaking through the water with a force that sent the crystalline liquid splattering in all directions. Not that he didn't end up just as wet as his brother, but that wasn't the point.

Kiv knew what was coming the moment the water hit his brother's open mouth. Face alight with joy, the cub none-the-less shrieked in mock terror and backpedaled as fast as his chubby legs could go.
"EeeeeeeeNOO --"
The monster wave hit him full on and sent him spinning through the warm water. His silver eyes were wide with wonder, taking in the blue world he'd just discovered. But even the novelty of it couldn't distract him from his goal. He could see his brother's legs just in front of him, and if he could've he would have laughed.
Collecting himself, Kivuli pushed off the bottom and broke the surface in a spray worthy of the largest lion (or so he believed!).
"RAWR!" He growled, then launched himself straight at his drenched brother.

His tail flicked, golden eyes scanning the water, searching for any sign of his brother and the 'attack' he knew was coming. It was a favorite game, one guaranteed to leave them both drenched and dirty, something that was sure to annoy both parents and siblings, what a wonderful game.
"Ack! Hey--"
The adolescent jumped backward, but not fast enough to avoid the splash of water that accompanied his charging brother, flinging the water with his own paws to ensure his thorough drenching.
"Oh, you wanna play that way do you?"
A smirk spread across his maw, four paws leaving the water in a leap, landing again in the water, sending a mighty tsunami after the young cub, bright laughter falling from his jaws to fill the air, breaking the peaceful silence.

"YA! Can't GET ME!"
The black cub darted, but not fast enough. Kivuli's laughter was quickly cut off by the new wave; he gargled for a moment and managed to snatch a last breath of air before being swept under again.
Underwater again, the cub opened his eyes and spotted Shin's legs a little ways away. Close by was a thicket of reeds...
Grinning madly even underwater, Kivuli bobbed to the surface for another breath (so sneaky! Surely he wasn't seen) and dunked under. He popped back up, hidden in the reeds.
Ears pinned and tail perfectly still, the great hunter waited.

Now thoroughly drenched, water shimmering against his dark hide within the groves it cut through his fur, partial mane plastered to his skull, the adolescent hunted. His tail flicked, eyes scanning the water and the grass. He was certain his brother was hiding, perhaps thinking to catch the older off guard, but where he was not certain.
"Kiv? Where are you? You can't hide forever."
There was merriment in his voice, a grin full of cubbish mischief on his maw. Kani had never shared such games with him, more likely to run home to daddy when he splashed her with water than she was to join the game. Remembering this, Shin stood by his previous assessment, girls were weird, brothers were much more fun.

Patience was the hunter's best friend. Kivuli's silver eyes narrowed in concentration, gaze locked on his prey. The reeds whispered around him, concealing any noise he might have made. Closer... closer... he supressed a giggle and tensed. Like he would tell Shin where he was! Silly brother!
Almost... there... NOW!
"That's okay, I don't need to!"
Squealing with glee, the cub lept out of his hiding spot and pounced on his brother's back, slippery though it was. Locking his paws around Shin's neck (Or at least as far as his short cub legs could reach) and shaking with laughter, Kivuli clung on for dear life!

His eyes narrowed in contemplation, ears twitching, searching for any sound that may betray his brother's location. Now where had the little fluffball gone? He couldn't have gone far, at least he better not have. He was hiding, Shin knew it, but wher--
Ah-hah, behind him! Ears swiveled to catch the sound, his brother's voice moments before the younger leapt from the water. He reeled, turning as if to face his brother, but his brother was already on him, small form perched precariously on narrow shoulders.
"Oh, you think you got me do you?"
A grin on his maw, Shin simply sat on his haunches, his back becoming a slippering incline that surely would deposit Kivuli on his own hind end. Hah, let's see him hold on now.

I shoulda thought this throu -- !
Kivuli squeaked, fought off gravity for a bare second, then succumbed and tumbled backwards into the waterhole. The shock of such cold after the heat of the summer sun drew the breath out of him in a burst.
Struggling to the surface, Kiv drew in air greedily and eyed his brother with an air of one plotting revenge. Still, he couldn't hide the grin that twitched on his lips.
"Just wait! I'll get big and THEN I'll get you gooOOO -- !" The last word was cut off by a yawn, much to Kivuli's dismay.

Smirking in satisfaction, Shin turned to face his brother in a bound, one large paw reaching out playfully. The adolescent would have been happy to play all day, splashing in the water, running around, and just generally being obnoxious. But alas, a cub's energy while intense was brief.
"You okay there, Kiv? You're not getting tired are you?"
If that yawn had been any indication, his little brother was already wearing down, and they hadn't even accomplished their goal for the day. It seemed that they'd have to fetch some bugs to torment their sisters later, well maybe they could try again after an afternoon nap.

"Tired? Me? I'm jus' gettin' start -- " A second yawn streched his jaws, and he grinned sheepishly at his brother. "I'm okay! Really!"
As much as he hated to admit it, he -was- feeling tired. But he didn't want to disappoint his brother! He could wait, and then just sleep tonight. That's what the dark was for - sleep! Right?
"See, watch! I can prove it!" With a playful cry the cub dunked a paw and splashed his brother, then darted towards the shore. Water rippled and glittered around him and he giggled, stifling another yawn under a burst of energy.

Shin just gave a wry smile and shook his head. He was far from convinced, he knew better, and though Kivuli tried to hide it, Shin wasn't falling for it. But he wasn't going to press the matter either, he knew full well that if a cub didn't want to take a nap they couldn't be forced, and he inwardly smirked at the thought of the torment he must have inflicted on their parents over the same issue.
"Uh-uh, alright, but if you fall asleep, I'm not picking you out of the mud."
A few short strides, and Shin had bounded past his brother to reach the shore, water cutting through his dark fur to fall to the earth beneath. There was a gleam in his orange eyes as he watched his brother, a look that his oldest sister had long since come to recognize, a look that said he was up to something.
He waited, biding his time until his brother reached the bank and small paws stepped on dry land. It was then that Shin made his move, a vigorous shake that rolled from head to tail, flinging the water from his hide, sending the heavy drops to splatter the ground under his paws and, hopefully, his brother.
