Barazahi turned around to look at her tail, then turned back to look at her paws, then she pawed at her own face. "Yes, I'm pretty sure I'm still a lion," she said with a playful smile. At Lovi's compliment, Raza batted her eyelashes a touch. (Such was a natural reaction by this point in her life) "Why thank you! You're very pretty too. Maybe someday you'll be as pretty as me," she sighed.
Raza put a paw over the pup's back to comfort her. "You can't be too far away from home then," she said. "It'll all turn out ok, you'll see. I can help you find your way back if you would like."

Most folks, when faced with such vanity and such a backhanded compliment, would be quite offended. But not Lolovivi. Lovi was young and naive, and Raza's comment only cued her to gasp and squeak with delight, pressing a paw to her stunned face. "Really!? You think!?" she cried. She thought it would be quite a blessing to be as pretty as this lioness someday.
This alone had already cheered her up somewhat. Then the lioness gave her further reason for delight. Her golden eyes gleamed like the morning sun when Raza offered to help the pup find her way home. "Oh thankyouthankyouthankyou!" she sputtered, launching forth and clinging to her companion's leg in her gratitude. She then fell back from the hug and began describing her home, at great, excited length. "Alright, well, my den--I mean, our den--it isn't my den, no way, it's my family's den. Well, my family's den, it's kind of a hole in the ground. But... it's a hole in the ground at the base of this really really really really really short hill. I mean really short. It's super short. It's barely even a hill. But it's a piece of ground that rises up a little above the rest so Iunno what else to call it. Anyway. Our den. My family den. It's this hole in the ground at the bottom of a really really really really really short hill. And there's lotsa tall grasses right outside the mouth of it. I guess that might make it kinda hard to find, but there's also a clearing in front of it, and a sandy-colored rock. I like that rock. It's fun to play on..."
And as the little pup babbled on rapidly and energetically, she was finally back to her old self.

Barazahi giggled as the pup started to speak energetically. She was glad they'd finally warmed up to one another. The pup reminded Raza of how she had been as a cub- talkative. Perhaps this pup would turn out to be close to Raza's beauty.
"Do you know if your den is in that general direction," Barazahi asked, pointing a claw to the right, "Or over there," She shifted it to the left, "Or over there?" She pointed behind Lovi. "There could be lots of super-short hills, so if there's one in one place, we're going to want to know if we went to the right one," she said, explaining herself. She liked the term super-short. She hadn't heard it in a while.
The thought entered her mind again that rogues couldn't be all that bad. She rather enjoyed rogues of any species.

As the two of them truly started to get along, Lovi began to consider that perhaps her mother was wrong... perhaps not all lions were monsters. This was a revolutionary new idea to her... she'd always thought her mother's word was god, and that her mother knew all things. She grinned brightly at Raza's giggle, not one to assume that others were laughing at her as opposed to with her.
But when Raza began to try to get to the bottom of where Lovi had come from, the pup frowned. She looked about wildly as Raza pointed in many different directions. "Umm... um..." she murmured, trying desperately to decide. Too many choices! She had no idea which way she could've come from!
Wait...
She seemed to recall the sun being in her eyes when she had come out this way. She observed the sun, which was getting ready to set on the western horizon. She then turned in the opposite direction and pointed with one little black paw. "Um... I think I came from that way."

"Well then," Raza said, "I guess we'd better head out, Lovi. We don't want your family worrying too much," She said. She rose to head off in that direction, her tall shadow leading the way.
"But Lovi, how did you get so far away?" She asked before she took a step. It wasn't a question asked in anger, but in curiousity. She remembered trying desperately to get away as a cub, and even a juvenile, but those attempts always ended in failure. It wasn't until she turned adolescent that she had mastered the skill of escaping the ever-watchful eye of her parents. And so her curiousity led her to believe this pup was quite skilled, perhaps even moreso than Raza had been.

"RIGHT!" cried out Lolovivi in determination, hopping up onto all four paws and holding her head up high. Her tail lashed wildly with excitement. Now it felt less like doom and more like an adventure. This, Lovi thought, was more like it. She trotted three excited circles around Raza before taking off, slightly dizzy, in the direction she had indicated.
Her ears perked up at the sound of Raza's next question, and then drooped. She sighed. Oh no. This had to have been too good to be true. This lady was probably going to tell on her, and she'd get in trouble... not just for wandering from the den, but for consorting with lions. She hoped her mother wasn't back from hunting yet by the time they got home, so that her mother would not see Raza. She hated to think that her mother and her new companion might fight. Finally, after taking the time to consider all this, she answered Raza's question. "Weeeeeelll... I got bored... so... I started chasin' a butterfly... and I got distracted... and before I knew it, I was out here." She blinked. "That's all I really remember." It didn't occur to her that how she got out here would have anything to do with her mother at all.

"Huh," Raza said as she walked. "Simple as that? Whenever I wanted to get away from my parents, it was impossible. I always had to take-" she paused. "A guard with me," she said. That guard had turned out to be her mate... If only I'd known, she thought to herself quickly before continuing her story. "I always tried really hard to get off on my own, and didn't end up succeeding until a little while ago. I was just curious how you did it, compare it to how I snuck out. I guess you're just sneakier than I am," she admitted with a chuckle. Of course, now her parents didn't watch her. She was an adult- it was her decision to do what she wished.
She turned her eyes to the horizon, looking for the slight hill with a rock out front, but couldn't spot anything yet.

Lovi looked the lioness over with sparkling confused eyes. Simple as what? Guards? The pup didn't quite understand. Then again, the two came from two very different families, so it was only natural that the little one would be a bit confused. Ultimately, she just shrugged and said, "I don't think I'm that sneaky. I mean... momma was out hunting, my older brother was asleep, and my younger brother... well... he'd been chasing his tail and he finally caught it." She paused here to smirk. Oh Xerxes. "There wasn't anybody really paying any attention for me to sneak from.
Then she stopped mid stride and gasped in horror, eyes widening. She raised one paw and pressed it to her face. "Oh no!" she cried. "Ohnoohnoohnoohno!" She looked frantically up at her new lioness friend. "If my momma's back from huntin' before I get back, she's gonna be soooooooooooo mad! And she's gonna be super mad that I've been with a lion!" She looked away and bit her lip. She hated to think what her mother would do to her new lioness friend when she saw her.

Yes, this will be a problem, Barazahi thought to herself. From the sound of it, the dog really didn't like lions...
"First thing's first," Raza said, her mind moving faster now. "Is there a water hole anywhere by where you live? You might have my scent, so when we get there you ought to wash it off," she explained. "If you don't... roll in dirt or something smelly, that should at least cover it up." Raza shuddered at the thought of something so cute having to roll in mud, but what was necessary was necessary.
They'd need more speed... at least if they wanted to get Lovi home in time to take a bath. "How does your mom carry you?" Raza asked. If it was by the scruff, things would go quicker; Barazahi's pace was quicker than the pup's, as was her stride. She wanted to check, though, before grabbing the pup by the scruff of her neck.

Distraught, Lolovivi proceded to pace little circles about the lioness' feet, fretting and worrying and dragging her tail along the ground. She paused only barely long enough to listen to Raza speak, then resumed her pacing as she spoke, her drooping ears swinging somewhat comically about her face.
"Wull, there isn't a water hole, but there's a little stream nearby where momma takes us for drinks," she explained as she went about in her little circles. "I think it's just big enough for me to get wet in."
Then Raza asked how her mother carried her. Lovi skidded to an abrupt stop and glanced up at the lioness. She failed to follow her companion's reasoning, and wondered what she meant by even asking. "Uhm... in her mouth, by my neck," Lovi told Raza. It somehow didn't occur to her that the lioness meant to carry her in the same way... but at least she'd asked... then at least the pup had some warning.

Barazahi promptly picked up the pup without another word. She carried it like she'd carry a kitten, and that approach seemed to work out well. Through her gritted teeth, she managed to say, "Hold on, we're gonna go a lot faster."
She picked up the pace from the trot it had been earlier to a run. Not a full out gallop, but a quick paced run. Her eyes rapidly scanned the horizon... it had to be around here somewhere... After a bit of running, she thought she saw something that matched the pup's description. She slowed to a stop and set Lovi down gently.
"Is that it?" She asked, facing the place that seemed to match Lovi's description.

Upon first being seized up into the lioness' mouth, Lolovivi squeaked, startled. For one frightened split-second, she thought that perhaps her mother was right--maybe lions were murderous. But after the first couple bounds, Lovi realized with some relief that she was just being carried... although she felt a little odd as a little puppy being carried by a great lioness. As she swung about in the lioness' mouth, Lovi muttered to herself, "Ohhh... I really hope mom doesn't see this."
Finally, after what felt like forever to Lolovivi, but was really only a short time, the pup was set down. She was questioned by the lioness, but she wobbled a little where she sat and held up a paw to indicate a time out. "Hold on a second," gasped the pup. "Dizzy." She sat until she could get her bearings, waivering about here and there, staggering when she tried to stand, thus falling right back onto her rump. Eventually though she finally got it together and took a look around. Aha! Here was familiar territory! Lovi grinned and nodded eagerly. "Yeahyeahyeah! This is it!" With that, she dove into the little stream and proceded to flop about in the water. After a couple minutes, she crawled on out and shook off, sending water flying everywhere. Still a bit soggy yet, she sat before the lioness and asked, "Well? How do I smell?"

I guess the ride was a little rough... Barazahi thought to herself upon seeing the pup's wobbly-ness. She'd have to learn how to take smoother strides before they got home... She shook the thought from her head. No time to be daydreaming when trying to escape a mother's wrath.
She watched the pup try to get the scent off and come back. Upon her question, Raza got her nose as close as she could without touching the pup, and luckily could smell nothing but water. "I think you're set!" She exclaimed.

When Raza assured her that the lion scent was gone, Lolovivi sighed deeply with relief, drooping a little. It might've been a comical sight if they weren't both in such a frantic state. "Oh thank goodness," the pup said. She shook a little more, but not much more water came off her coat. She pouted intensely. "Though I can't say I'm very comfortable," she grumbled. But this was no time for complaints and moping--they needed to get moving.
Now back on familiar land, Lovi surveyed the area for familiar landmarks which would lead them home. Just over the stream, she spied a place where the grasses parted slightly. She gasped and pointed. "THERE!" she cried. "That's the path we take to get down here! Let's go!" She began to scramble wildly, leaping nimbly over the brook. Reaching the mouth of the path, she paused and looked back. "And, um, no offense Miss Raza, but... I think it'd probably be best if I went on my own four feet this time." No need to get all dizzy and lion-scented again.

Raza took Lovi's comment in good stride. She knew that she hadn't exactly given the smoothest ride, but it had given them the distance that they needed and the time for her to get the scent off her. Barazahi checked the horizon for a black individual; she figured that that had to be Lovi's mom's color. Luckily, she found no such thing yet. Raza determinedly splashed herself in the water, getting wet up to her tummy in hopes that she wouldn't spread her scent to the dog's den. A trail of water was much more explainable, even to a pup. She quickly caught up to Lovi, and was very happy to know that Lovi knew the area.
"Lead the way," Barazahi said. "I'm sure glad your mother isn't in sight yet. Looks like we'll make it out of here ok."
