That water polution pictures are gross! But that just shows how we need to change it. Look at this and tell me if you change your mind.

As Emily knows I am a big global warming skeptic, however, I do recycle EVERYTHING. I take 5 min showers instead of 20 min ones (I would take a bath but I am one of those weirdos who doesn't "feel clean" after a bath), I turn off the water when I brush my teeth, and I turn the lights off in my house unless it is night time. Even though I am not all riled up about global warming, don't take me as one of the idiots who is not concerned about the environment. I think that pollution is horrible and hurts the ecosystem. Oh I also cut the 6 pack rings if I have those, but normally I get 12 packs of sodas.

poetic emo goddess Emily`s_Gone_Mad poetic emo goddess i've had global warming on my mind for years. i posted an entry in my journal about it, but no one seems to be interseted in it. i'm mostly worried about this because it's melting the North Pole, and polar bears are close to being endangered. Not only that, but coral reefs are dying, storms will become harsher as the century progresses, and many other things. it's caused by gas emissions. these come from car exhausts, power plants, solar acitvity, volcanic emissions, and variations in the earths' orbit. although there are factors that are not human related, the majority is caused by humans. the ways that we can reduce the gas emissions is driving a hybrid car, using renewable resources such as solar panels and wind turbines, and other things. for any other information, go to stopglobalwarming.org . and if you want to voice your concerns about it, go to beattheheat.nrdc.org. I am interested in it, and have been for years. Did you know that Volcanic Emmisions and even other natural factors can mask the effects of Global Warming as it had in 1991 when a major Volcano Erupted. THings like emissions from the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the philipines cooled the earth slighlty for 3year, temporarily masking signs of global warming.
I can be opened minded to the other side of the story, but we should still not be treating our beautiful planet like a waste basket.
The things that sadden me the most is the animals, because they have little to no contribution to the effects of this crazy weather. I have sighned a petition to save the Polar Bears, they have not been declared endangered just yet, but they are threathened and their number are reducing quickly.Save the Polar Bears! -Take action!that's so awesome! i signed that petition too! i also did the one for the gray wolves. and the global warming. i felt really great too. but now, it feels like it isn't helping because no one wants to change & they're ignoring the truth..it all feels like it's in vain, but i'm not going to give up just yet. 3nodding No efforts to clean up our planet are ever in vain, Even our skeptic's about global warming, should realize that being wastefull never has a clean outcome.
*hugs Kitten* Ya for 5 Min showers! Bath's are so much fun though!

well you can just tell by the VERY ODD weather. Hell here in Iowa its starts getting really cold in November, but this year we had 70 degree weather until about the end of January. I mean we did pay for it with the huge snow storm that we got, but still...its not normal by any means. Plus I dont think its a good sign for future weather...not just here but everywhere...

actually this weather could be linked to a low in sunspots and no matter what we do humans are powerless to undo what gasses we have leaked into the atmosphere

That’s not necessarily true Party, during I believe WWI a scientist by the name of Fritz Haber developed a process of extracting nitrogen right out of the air. In fact most of today’s nitrogen resource is extracted from air. The possibility of using the same processes to extract other gasses, like CO2 and other greenhouse gasses out of the atmosphere is something mankind can do.

ah but you see we waste so much and how little an affect that that has on the over all effect of the atmosphere and the damage is already done with all we know about the atmosphere it could work a completely different way

Global Warming does not include only high temperatures but also the cold ones. The weather is going crazy. There's too much pollution to the air and not enough trees to cleance it due to deforestation. After taking Ecology I learned a lot. But it mainly to blame on BAD planing!
There's not much we can do right now. We can't fix the Ozone layer. Right now it has two big hole in it. One near Hawai'i and the other over Antartica. In addition, due to the Greenhouse Effect gases and toxic particles are trapped within the atmosphere. I'm not saying stop using cars but find ways to make better cars. The US Department of Energy (yay for funding!) in collaboration with other countries have ongoing research aimed at finding new ways to reduce polution. Things like the war over at Irak are not gonna help at all.
On the other hand, it is a natural phenomena that we get a global warming before an ice age. All we did (us humans) was push the time clock on fast forward. Like Catz said, this wasn't supposed to be happening yet. Certainly not those big holes in the ozone layer.

Ok first off I think global warming is real and that it is very likely man is causing break in the natural cycle.
1. The earth has been going through Hot/Cold cycles for a long time, and it is possible that this current trend is just part of that. a. We are certainly on a warming trend right now, and it is possible that some things (such as a massive change in ocean currents due to the introduction of fresh water from melting ice caps and glaciers) could cause at least a temporary reversal in this. b. If you look at the short term patterns for weather change and atmospheric content (last couple thousand years as opposed to last couple million) It looks like an industrial control chart for a process that is going out of control (trust me after last semester I know what those look like, also here is a chart http://www.technologyreview.com/articlefiles/climatechart.pdf) (another link to an article talking about this chart [slightly biased souce in my opinion though] http://www.tpmcafe.com/discussiontables/misc_politics_table/2006/jul/19/ global_warming_an_amazing_graph_and_muzzling_science_at_nasa)
(another really good chart only showing the last 2000 years, lets you see the fine detail at the tail end of the the first chart much better, a much scarier chart in my mind http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2000_Year_Temperature_Comparison.png) b1. It looks to me like we are at the beginning of what could be a run away trend in warming. "If" this is true then we still don't really know what it will lead to, the ecosystem could set of counter measures that would send us into an ice age(something has led to the oscillations up until now) or we might turn earth into another Venus. The point is that there is enough evidence to suggest that this may be man's fault, and even if it isn't if climate change of a massive order is coming we will be just as dead even if it isn't our fault. So it stands to reason that we should stop doing things that we KNOW DO contribute to global warming even if you want to play the ignorance card and say they might not be our fault. Trying to lower Greenhouse Gas emmissions for the entire world is utterly vital in my opinion.

The only thing I'm wondering is how can oil spills be related to global warming? Does anyone know that?

Global warming is an up and coming issue, I think... However, it's not something that we as human beings have had a major effect on. Periods of ice ages and periods of global warming are part of the history of the planet. They happen. I admit we haven't been helping any, but... I just can't agree with my friend who screams that we as human beings are evil destroyers of the world. Still, it's a problem.
