Im verry upset on how all american style skirts that are above the knee are short as hell. everything is too long or too short!

OMG. THAT IS SO WIN.
YOU MAKE ME LOL.

and ditto on the short skirts... also, hard to find FULL skirts. and not just flared skirts. :6 that is a strange skirt to have.

Its hard to find anything good here in america Ive found some skirts and shirts that would work for the right outfit but they are still ********. for example I was at kohls and they had a ton of the victorian inspired button up top things. they were verry pretty but upon picking them up you discover they are made of MESH. or some other see threw crap! how hard is it to get it right and make it out of cotton, or poplin, or a nice blend? no, here in america we must have everything made out of the sheerest fabric possable so your either forced in to buying tank tops or having your bra/ tatto seen right thew your shirt.
I HATE IT!

um fyi those shirts are meant to be worn with a cami or shirt underneath. they're made of mesh because of the mesh's texture and because it looks cool to have some of it see-through with a cami under it. not all american fashion is slutty, i shop at delias a lot and most of they're skirts and dresses hit just above the knee

we just need to spread the word that lolita is not what people think.

That is by far the worst, most unintelligent thing I've heard.

You try to spread the word, and over-commercialized organizations get a hold of the idea of Lolita. They (like hot topic) bring it to the mainstream market, where it falls to the popular culture. What happens there? It gets chopped off to mini-skirt and tube top status.

Then someone else will try to "spread the word."

Think things through first.

tank tops and things ment to bee seen-threw are not total conservative!and yes, I said you have to wear a tank top under it (or have your bra or ink show.) I dont like that and I dont think its cool if the trend now adays is victorian style clothing when in all actuality the victorinas werent just frilly- they were a bit prude.
yes there are stores that sell less than short skirts- still, they are few and far in between. not to mention expensive.

someones probally already mentioned this but the definition of lolita is a seductive young girl--so its no surprise to get stares or find lingerie

I HATE it when I see the slutty dresses listed under lolita on ebay. I also hate it when my onee-chan says that the style is about being sexually attractive by looking innocent -_- ((and my mom keeps calling it cosplay...))

Yes, it's actually the nickname for a charlotte or dolores and the proper name for lola (which pretty much took the place of the female name lolita as a nickname too).
But then they wrote that book and that became the main definition.

Kinda like how punked is defined by Aston's show now.

Lolita is not going to be sold to the mainstream because it does not appeal to the mainstream. (The aesthetic is sufficiently offbeat to repel most people, as anyone who's ever been laughed at in an alice bow and mary janes knows too well). But lolita IS COMMERCIAL. It is a highly consumer-oriented subculture. It is not pure and sweet, made of fairy cakes and tea. It is manufactured by corporations who are trying to make money.

The concept of lolita as a tube top and a miniskirt is what people think already. If we spread the word that lolita is something different, people may-- oh, shock!-- get the right idea. How could that be harmful?

and, as far as I know, the only reason lolita style is called lolita is because of the name-popularity because of the book. I can't really think of another reason why it would be called lolita

crying crying I hate it!! like the ebay items say its lolita but its not!! I was like eek shouldnt have seen that!!! *scrolls down*
but after I learned the definition I was just thinking........ that saying rorita (jap way) would leave more people without the though its lolita. unless they speak japanese xD

Note that in that description, there were also the words "french maid", something very commonly assumed to be a part of lolita, and something that's very definitely sexual. Combined with "The Book", it's not much of a surprise, really. Annoying, but unsurprising...

I despise the perverted ideas of "lolita's"; they give them a bad name. D:

It's one of the reasons I tend to get nervous and irritated when I mention "lolita's" in front of adults/etc., because they sometimes stare at me all odd and awkward.

I sent my brother into the bookstore to ask if they had the gothic lolita bible...And the cashier looked at him in a very weird way and then I had to explain to the person what I was looking for and when we left my brother went"I am NEVER asking something for you again!!!! scream " I asked him to do just so I could see the ladies reaction honestly sweatdrop
