Okay, so it was bad enough that Riordan found Reese while I was gone and adopted him without even asking me. That wasn't too bad, I don't guess. But the other day, this guy came to the house about us adopting a kid. Now, I wasn't exactly for it, considering the fact that Reese is enough, but 'Dan fell in love with this boy. He's such a softie.

Anyways, so I got the wonderful job of explaining to Reese what was going to be happening. Yeah... that didn't go over very well. It took me a few minutes to explain to where Reese understood that this boy wouldn't just be coming over, but staying here. In fact, living here for a very long time. I had to resort to using stuffed animals, but that's a different story.

Reese isn't happy about this whole idea, but I'm hoping that he gathered that he'll still be living here and be loved and all. I tried to make that clear, but I know that sharing us will be hard on him. I'm not sure what the schooling requirments will be for this child as it wasn't mentioned, but even if this place doesn't offer it, I may just convince 'Dan to put him in a normal school so that Reese still feels special and gets that one-on-one time with us.

Adjustments at home

The men had prepared a room for Caleb, in hopes of being able to bring him home eventually. Finally, the day arrived and the men drove home and showed Caleb the house. A quick tour of the house was first. They went up the half-flight of stairs to the main part of the house. First was the living room and then the kitchen. Kaden pointed to the door to Reese's room and told Caleb not to go in there unless Reese let him in. Then there was the upstairs bathroom and their bedroom door, which Caleb was told was off-limits.

On downstairs they went, showing Caleb the main area of the basement and gesturing towards the laundry room and bathroom. The last place was the room they'd set up just for the boy. "And this is your room," Riordan told the boy, opening the door to show it to Caleb.

Then Reese came home and the troubles started. The fish boy was not happy that Caleb was there now. He stomped his foot and pointed at the canine boy. "Noah liuh-kuh!" The boy stammered before running off to his room and slamming the door.

Riordan and Kaden exchanged glances and Riordan headed off to Reese's room while Kaden sat with Caleb in the living room. "Caleb, there's some rules you need to know. We've already told you about not going into Reese's room unless he lets you and that our room is off-limits. But there are some more. Don't leave the house unless you've told either Dad or me. You can only go into the backyard. Don't go into the pool unless one of us is outside with you. No sweets before meals." The man paused for a bit, thinking.

"Oh, I teach Reese here at home, so I planned to have you stay here and learn at least for this first week. If you seem to know most of the stuff, we'll find a school for you, how does that sound?" Kaden knew that Caleb was a more outgoing kid than Reese and would not like being stuck at home all day. Plus, if the boy was as smart as the file made him out to be, he was right on track with his schooling. Or close to it. The file hadn't had much on what schooling the boy had gotten, but he seemed fairly bright.

Caleb scowled, kicking his legs. Kaden sat there for a moment and watched him, then smiled and ruffled the boy's hair. "Go on downstairs to your room. We'll have to go shopping later and get you some stuff, but you might as well get settled with what you've got now. We'll have dinner in a little while."

As Caleb darted downstairs, Kaden went to see how Reese was doing. He entered the boy's room to see Reese sniffling in Riordan's lap. The man had his arms about the boy, hugging him. "We still love you very much, Reese. I'm sure Caleb loves you, too. It'll just take a little while for you two to get used to both living here..." Riordan told the boy while Kaden sat on the floor beside them.

Finally, Reese calmed down and the family started to get ready for their first meal together. It was sure to prove interesting....

In response to your earlier email, we have enclosed the information requested. In the time that Caleb has spent with us, he has seemed to settle to living with us. There is some tension between him and his brother, but we are working to soothe it over. Caleb has tried to interact with his brother, but hasn't succeeded yet.

Physically, the boy is sound. He's got bumps and bruises from playing rough as most young boys do. Caleb has filled out some since arriving here and has a hearty appetite. He has grown taller as well. We have discussed taking him to get a haircut, but don't want to push him too fast. Thus, his hair has gotten longer and more unkempt, try as we might to get him to brush it.

We went shopping for Caleb shortly after he arrived at our home. The nice button-up shirts and khaki pants that we brought home have suffered considerable wear since. Though not ragged, they are definately not in the best of shape anymore. Caleb's favorites seem to be the green and blue ones. He hates shoes and often tries to run off without putting them on.

Sincerely,
Kaden Williams and Riordan Briggs

Chimera Info Class

What is a chimera?
A pet-like creature that's part magic.

What do you want to be able to do with your chimera?
Play!

What type do you think your chimera will be (and why)?
Maybe a sprite or a dragon. Not a cat like the teacher's cuz I don't like cats! And not a bird cuz they fly. And I don't like water, so not that last one either.

What magical things sometimes happen to you?
I run faster than lots of other people. My daddies can't keep up sometimes...

I got to meet my chimera today! It's a dragon and it's going to be gold to match me! The tech was nice, but he didn't talk a lot... But my dragon's really cool! He's a boy, just like me and he's going to like running like me! We'll get to run really fast together! I can't wait until he gets to come home with me!

Well, Caleb got to meet his chimera for the first time today. Though the tech was rather rude to us, Caleb was very excited. I'm a little concerned on how this dragon chimera is going to fit in our house.. Or how Reese is going to take it. Riordan and I were talking about getting Reese a pet so that it wouldn't just be Caleb with something special. Probably a tank of fish or something a lot simplier to keep up with. But it'd be his own. We'd probably put the tank in his room, too.

Caleb talked about his chimera the whole way home and kept asking us thousands of questions we didn't know the answer to. Finally, I told him that when we got home I'd write them all down on a list for him. And I did, though I was stuck there for probably twenty minutes until he was sure he didn't have another question to ask next time. Poor tech is going to be bombarded next time...

Soccer Star

The whistle sounded and like magic, the dozen kids that had been running back and forth across the small area of grass halted and headed in one direction. Red and blue jerseys mixed as the two teams fetched their juice boxes and then started to scatter and find parents during their break. One of the children took his juice box and, while eagerly sucking at the little plastic straw, gazed about the stands.

Two men were sitting in the bottom row of stands, while another boy played nearby in the grass. They'd picked the end so that Reese could have some room to roam without disrupting the other parents. The fish boy was currently playing with some of his stuffed animals while sitting on the ground only a few feet away from the men. Kaden stood and waved at Caleb, who ran over happily as he spotted them. His tail was wagging excitedly and he couldn't wait until he got close to shout at them. "Did you see it?"

The men chuckled and Kaden walked the closing distance between them and the boy and put his arm about the kid's shoulders. "We did. You scored a goal and we're very proud of you!" The men were then subjected to a play-by-play analysis of the goal in question that lasted until the whistle blew again. "You'd better get back out there, Caleb!" Kaden gently guided the boy away, taking the juice box as the kid ran back onto the field to join his teammates.

The game continued on for the second half and the men joined in with the other parents in cheering the kids on. A parent or two yelled at the referee on occasion, objecting the call made. Riordan just shook his head. Some of these parents took this way too seriously. It was just a game for the kids to play and have fun with. What did it matter if they had a penalty called against them?

Caleb's tail was a blur behind the kid as he raced back and forth, occasionally in possession of the ball. But more often than not, he was merely trying to get the ball, either by stealing it from an opponent or by shouting at his teammates. Unfortunately, at that age, kids still liked to hog the ball whenever possible and there was little passing going on.

After the game, a rather excited Caleb found his fathers again. With such a young age group, the scores were always rather low and the boy had scored one of the few goals of the game. It was something to be proud of. And proud Caleb was!

The men decided to treat Caleb for his goal and stopped to get ice cream on the way home. Reese and the men got simple cones while Caleb was allowed to get a sundae. The boy was thrilled to get such a treat and dug in excitedly. The men exchanged looks, wondering if perhaps this had been a good idea after all...

Daddy said I have to write in my journal more often. He said I need to practice writing and learn to express my feelings. He also said I wouldn't be able to play outside until I did it. So...

I just asked him what to write about and he told me to write about school. School's out right now, but it'll be starting up again soon, he said. I like my school. There's lots of kids there and we have all kinds of fun. Some of them are even on my soccer team.

Daddy still teaches Reese here at home, but he said that since I'm out for summer, he'll give Reese a summer break as well. Though they still have little lessons every now and then. I'm glad I go to my school now. When I stayed with Daddy here for school, it was boring. Reese is stupid. Daddy said I shouldn't call Reese that. My brother just has a disability. Whatever that is.

Okay, Daddy said I wrote enough and can go play now!

Chimera Visit Form

Second Chimera Visit

Caleb was enjoying a nice time outside, playing catch with Kaden. The man tossed the ball to Caleb, who suddenly went very still. "Caleb? Caleb, are you okay?" Kaden jogged the short distance to the canine boy, glancing at the kid.

The boy shook his head just a bit and glanced up at his father. "I got a funny feeling. I... I think my chimera's ready." He couldn't really explain just what he'd felt, but the tech had said that he'd feel it and he just knew that it was his chimera.

Caleb tugged on his father's hand. "Let's go, Daddy! They said to hurry!" He didn't want to miss his chimera coming out!

Man and boy raced to the house to find Riordan on the phone. "They said Caleb's chimera is ready."

Kaden nodded. "Caleb felt it, tell them we're on our way." He reached over and gave his lover a quick peck on the cheek. Grabbing the car keys, he shooed Caleb out the door and into the car. "Be sure to buckle up."

"Drive fast, Daddy!"

"Caleb, I'm not speeding. We'll get there as soon as possible without getting a ticket." Still, Kaden couldn't help but speed a little along the way and was soon pulling up to Faction S.

Caleb opened the door to the car as soon as it stopped and was already at the doors to the building by the time Kaden had gotten the car shut off and out of the vehicle. "Hurry, Daddy!" The boy was pacing at the door as his father jogged over and they were soon rushing through the hallways to where they'd gone the last time they'd visited the chimera.

They met N inside the outer area and he nodded briefly to them. "Goldfur's ready to come out," he said in greeting, leading them to the room they'd visited last. They had to pause and wipe their feet and finally they were in the room. The lights were not as dim as last time and there was movement within the tank.

Caleb started to rush forward, but Kaden held him back. "Hang on, Caleb. Let's see what he wants you to do, first..." He quietly told the eager boy, who was forced to stand still, something rather torturous for him.

N seemed to take his time fiddling with some stuff on the screen, checking things over one last time to make sure that Goldfur truly was ready to come out. Finally, he typed in a sequence and the substitute amnotic fluid began to drain out.

Once that finished, the next few moments were a blur to Caleb and finally his chimera was standing before him. Filled with awe at this momentous occasion, the boy slowly stepped forward and ran his fingers gently over the dragon's head. "I'm gonna call you Rex."

Caleb has grown quite a bit. The boy still loves to run, though his attempts at running away have practically stopped now. I think he's realized that he's part of the family now, even if his brother still doesn't speak to him. Caleb's into soccer now and it has been really good for him. It lets him get some of that running energy out and teaches him good sportsmanship as well as how to follow rules.

He is very excited about his chimera and has been driving us up the wall with preparations for it to come home. For now, a place has been set up in Caleb's room, though we're unsure of exactly how fast this thing is going to grow...

We finally got Caleb's hair trimmed so it's not quite so long anymore. Kept the style pretty much the same, though Caleb seems a bit upset still about it. I think he liked the longer hair... but he couldn't be bothered to sit still long enough for it to be brushed, so it had to be trimmed...

His clothes.... are a mess. He tends to wear his soccer jersey, even when there's not a game. He loves the shorts as well and, try as we might, grass stains just do not come out of those clothes. He still hates shoes and can only be forced to wear them for short periods of time.

As far as Caleb's physical state, other than the usual bumps and bruises he's got from playing rough, he's in good shape. He's grown taller and has filled out well with good food. Such a sweet boy, even if he's rather active.

Sincerely,
Kaden Williams and Riordan Briggs

Bringing Rex Home

Caleb had been sad when N said that he couldn't take Rex home right away. The boy had asked every day since when they were going to let him bring Rex home. He'd about driven Riordan and Kaden up the wall with the repetitive questioning. Caleb had gotten to go see Rex one other time since the dragon had emerged. And now they'd called and said that he could come and pick his chimera up.

"Faster Daddy!" The boy squirmed about in the back seat, unable to sit still for the drive to Faction S. Kaden sighed and didn't comment on the remark. The boy'd already said it fifteen times and they weren't quite halfway to their destination.

The whole family was in the car. Reese was even there, which was something rare for the boy. Most of the time, the men tried to leave the boy either with one of them at home or with someone else. But they'd thought it might be good for Reese to first see Rex somewhere other than at home. The men had also discussed the possibility of getting the boy a pet of his own... perhaps some goldfish. They were fairly hardy and wouldn't die if Reese forgot to feed them a time or two... or so the men hoped.

Finally, the seemingly-neverending car ride did just that. They pulled into Faction S and Caleb was out of the car before Kaden had managed to come to a complete stop. The family managed to group together and the men managed to get Caleb to slow down so they could all keep up.

Then N was scowling at them and showing them to where the dragon chimera was staying. Caleb rushed in and was hugging Rex before everyone else could get inside. N grunted something at them and left. Riordan hung back with Reese, who was not happy to see that Rex was BIG.

"Reese, this is Rex. Rex is coming home with us... He'll live with Caleb in his room, downstairs..." Riordan softly explained, crouching down to the boy's level.

"Noh wan'." Reese scowled, crossing his arms defiantly.

Riordan gently stroked the boy's hair. "What if I said you could get some fishies? And put them in a tank in your room. Just like Rex will be in Caleb's room."

Reese's face lit up at that. "Fis'ie??"

Riordan nodded. "Fishies. You can even help pick them out." That cheered Caleb's brother right up and made the process of getting Rex to the car and inside much easier... until it was time for Reese to get in.

"No!" He shook his head, clinging to Riordan's leg. The man didn't get it for a bit, but then realized that between Rex and Caleb, there was very little space left in the back for Reese... and the boy was obviously not too fond of getting that close to the chimera.

"Ride up front with me!" Riordan told Reese, which caused the fish boy to grin and Caleb to frown.

Kaden chuckled. "You're riding with Rex, Caleb... you can ride up front some other time."
