The Ichsa smiled and bobbed his head. "Yea, I understand the askin'. I'd do the same thing if it me meeitn' you... If that made sense." Wow, he was good at not making sense today, wasn't he? He wasn't even entirely sure what he'd said himself and that was pretty good going. Still, the white mare had followed him so far; maybe he hadn’t confused her as much as he had himself.

"Erm, yea anyway. Why you?" Good question. "Well... I guess 'cos y' been nice t' me so far an' 'cos I got on with y' daughter, too. Y' jus' seem like a decent sort; not too proud but not too 'umble either, y' know? A lot of people go too far one way or the other... 's like... Y' gotta be proud of what y' do have an' confident in y'self but not brag about stuff or completely knock everyone else flat with y' utter egotism..."

Maurice twitched his tendril wings and tried to play his own words back through in his head. Well he thought he'd said what he was trying to say but he'd forgotten what he'd said at the beginning of his explanation now so he wasn't quite sure.

The blue stallion gave his pale-coated companion a lopsided smile. "Anytime I start talkin' crap y' allowed t' tell me by the way. Sometimes I go into auto-ramble without realisin' it."

She bobbed her head with an amused smile on her slender face. "It did make sense, Maurice, yes. Everyone makes sense, in my opinion. It's just that others don't always understand everything they listen to," she explained with a grin. "That is my thought on the matter, anyway."

With a second bob of her head and another smile, she flicked an ear in an equine shrug. "Extreme personalities can be irritating at the best of times," said the snow-coated mare with a slight nod, then chuckled. "I assure you, everyone goes into auto-ramble mode at some point, and I am no exception." She couldn't help but laugh, the ends of her muscular tails twirling and curling around the others, twisting to a new, more comfortable position. "And I'm not surprised you got on with Cressie so well," she began with a smile, "you certainly are quite charming, in my opinion, and you have such an endearing accent and way with words," she said with a smile. "Also, knowing my dear daughter, she must have given you a nickname. I'm sure you probably noticed, but Maurice is such a formal name. It suits you very well, but it isn't appealing to say it constantly in more comfortable conversation, and knowing Cressida, she loves giving nicknames to others. Tell me, what nickname did she give you?" She quizzed with a smile. Cressida had met this young stallion, and they seemed to have gotten on quite well. If Cressida hadn't changed much since they were separated, Maurice would not be a name she would want to use all the time, especially in casual conversation, so therefore she must have given him a suitable nickname. She could think of what Cressie would probably have dubbed him, but she'd rather ask instead.

The blue stallion gave an amused whicker and bobbed his head to Rhea’s words. “Well thanks; I do try t’ be likeable an’ ‘m glad y’ find the accent more endearin’ than indecipherable an’ annoyin’.” He remembered being told to speak properly by more than one Nequus in the past. With an internal chuckle, the silver marked Ichsa also remembered where he’d told them they could stick their opinions.

“But yea,” Maurice went on, shifting his footing slightly in the sand. “I decided t’ call her Cressie and she decided t’ call me Mo. Never ‘ad a nickname that I can remember before but I like it; ‘s nice t’ have somebody talk t’ y’ f’ long enough t’ think of something they’d rather call y’ than y’ name, yea?”

Having moved around so much since leaving the herd that his family had been a part of he hadn’t ever really stopped to just chat to many Nequus before. From the sample of those he had though; Niz, Chandara, Cressie and now Rhea, he felt that either he’d been very lucky so far or that on the whole people were far more decent than he’d hitherto believed. It would be nice if the latter were the case and, for the time being at least, the curly-maned stallion chose to believe it. Optimism was, after all, seldom a bad thing.

"I don't know why or how anyone would find it annoying or incomprehensible," she said with an equine shrug, smiling at him. "It's rather cute, in my opinion."

She nodded, smiling. "Oh yes, now it's even more clear to me. I used to call her Cressie when she was just a filly, so I suppose when you used her nickname she was quite happy to give you one, as well, and a lovely nickname it is," she said with a chuckle. "I hope you don't mind if I call you Mo now, as well. And yes, it is nice," she said with a smile upon her muzzle. "I haven't seen another nequus in such a long time, I'd almost forgotten how wonderful it is to have someone to talk to. Especially someone who's as kind as yourself," she said with a smile and a bob of her muzzle. He certainly was very kind. Such a polar opposite to the last one she'd met, but he'd received what he deserved. A sudden thought brought a smile to her face; she was separated from Cressida by an ichsa stallion, and now she was to be reunited with her due to another ichsa stallion.

Maurice chuckled softly and flicked a fly off his ear. “Well thanks Rhea; ‘m glad y’ think that an’ y’ welcome t’ call me Mo if y’ like. ‘s a lot easier than m’ full name an’ it’s got a nice ring to it, yea?” His brother and his sister had been given nicknames. Arseholes. Well he had one too now and his was better than their’s so there.

“It’s weird seein’ other people again after y’ been alone for a while, in’it?” the silver-marked Ichsa commented after a moment’s thought. “I didn’ do too good right away t’ be honest; I got better at it now though I think.” It was odd to remember that he’d actually been wary, afraid almost, of Nizhoni.

Niz! He had to go back and visit her soon; he’d almost forgotten his promise. Well, he could go soon enough; maybe in a few days, maybe sooner if Cressie showed up before he felt he really ought to go. It would be good to see the creamy mare again, to actually be able to make friends with her this time rather than just feel nervous of her. He’d definitely come a long way since reaching the ocean but he hadn’t realised how far until now. It was a good feeling.

The snow-white mare listened with a smile on her face, flicking the ends of her muscular tails. "Good, because I was prepared to call you Mo whether you allowed it or not," she said with a bright laugh. "It's such a perfect name for you, and yes, it does have a lovely ring to it." She tossed her curly white mane to the other side of her slim neck, and a soft breeze caused the black-tipped feathers to begin tickling her ear.

Weird to see others after a while? She furrowed her brow, thinking on it a bit, then nodded, her expression clearing. "Yes, it is rather strange to see others after going so long without seeing anyone. When you're away from others for so long it begins to feel like you're the only one left, like anyone and everyone else is just a fading memory. Then you see other nequus and begin talking to them again, and everything comes back to you. It's really a strange feeling. Luckily I didn't freeze up or run, isn't it?" She said with a laugh. "You're the first other I've seen in ages, and we've gotten along fairly well so far, in my opinion." She bobbed her head, flicking her ear so the feathers would stop irritating it. "Have you been away from others for a long while, Mo? You seem to have a similar opinion of being away from others for so long."

The blue Ichsa nodded an affirmative to Rhea’s query. “Yea, we are getting’ on well I think; y’ nice, not like some snooty buggers I run into round ‘ere. As t’ me,” he went on. “It was a while ago now but I spent… maybe half a year away from other Nequus, could’a been more I guess; wasn’ really keepin’ track.” He’d been too busy avoiding them to notice time pass. “Started seeing Nequus again back in the winter. Took me a while t’ adjust, I was kinda nervous of other people for a while but I got over it now.” Thankfully. Being jittery was really, really annoying.

It seemed a lifetime ago that Nyx had given him directions to come to the coast and, cornily enough, to himself. Finding himself in the sea. Wow. That really was too cheesy to utter aloud to anybody he didn’t know very well indeed. It sounded like something out of an awful story for foals, probably with a deep and meaningful message of something.

Smiling faintly at the thought, Maurice turned his attention back to the snowy mare before him. “ ‘m glad I did get back t’ people,” he commented with a bob of his head that dropped his curly mane into his face. He tossed his head to clear his view of the world and gave Rhea another smile. “ ‘s kinda borin’ bein’ by y’self all the time. Don’ get me wrong; I like m’ peace an’ solitude too but… I guess y’ can’ really appreciate one unless y’ got the other too if y’ follow me.”

"Yes, some nequus think they're better than everyone else, though I can't imagine where they stake those claims." She bobbed her head as she readjusted her wings to a more comfortable position on her back, and flicked an ear. "Winter? Not too, too long ago. I don't remember the last time I saw a nequus before you," she said with a smile. "It must have been directly after I lost little Cressie, so I think I've gone quite a long, long time without seeing anyone else. I might have spotted someone here and there since, but never had a larger conversation than to ask a few questions." She shrugged, trying to buy herself a bit more thinking time, then smiled. "I'm glad you've adjusted well, you're a wonderful companion."

She laughed a bit, twirling the ends of her tails. "It is rather boring, having no one to talk to. Alone time is very nice, but I agree. You can't fully appreciate it unless you're around others, otherwise its meaningfulness is lost."

With a flick of her ear, she snapped the ends of her tails together. "Well, Mo, I've been standing in one spot for much too long, and I'm still rather excited about the thought of seeing Cressie again after so long, so I need to burn off some of my extra energy," she said as she looked at him with a smile on her snowy muzzle. "Care to join me for a good run?"

Maurice gave a soft whicker of amusement and nodded. “Sure, sounds like fun t’ me. Went runnin’ with Cressie too; got m’self a bit left be’ind but I been workin’ on it. ‘opefully I’ll be able t’ keep up with you, an’ with ‘er once she shows up again.” It would be good to catch the gilded mare before he left for D’ob in serch of Niz. Wow. He certainly seemed to have made a lot of friends since he’d stopped being a recluse.

A light gust of wind blew the scent of the sea into his nostril and the blue-coated Ichsa pranced, showing his readiness for a good gallop. “After you Rhea,” he said with a grin and a toss of his head. Running was better with two; it motivated you to push yourself harder not to mention the pleasure of just being with another healthy creature and not speaking too much. Sometimes the very best moments you shared with others were conducted in silence.

"I love having a good run, though it's so much better with company," she said with a laugh, prancing about a bit with him. "You're in luck, then. The best place to work on stronger leg muscles is the beach, in my opinion. Running is difficult on the shifting sands as well as through the water, which tries to push you back and prevent you from running your full speed." Yes, Cressie would be hard to catch. The snowy mare was fleet of foot, she thought, but she knew her daughter was faster than she, and she had no idea how fast Mo was. She would find out soon enough, though.

Her ears swiveled toward him as he suggested she start first. She adjusted her wings to a better position for running, then reared onto her hind legs and, with a delighted whinny, vaulted into a powerful gallop across the beach. She hadn't had a good run on the beach in a long while, and it felt much different than racing across grass. She peered behind her after a few seconds to see where Mo was, hoping she wasn't too fast for him, but also wondering if he would surpass her. She wouldn't be surprised; if Cressie was fleet of foot when she was a foal, how fast would she be now, when she was fully grown? Certainly very fast, and the white mare wondered if Mo was faster than her. If he was, would she be able to keep up? Does it matter? She thought suddenly, then smiled. No, it doesn't. Not in the least.
