Yeah, the fake Gaia log in page trick has been floating around for a little bit now. Also a bad one now is links that take you to pages with cookie grabbers. They get your info even if you don't type anything. Part of the problem is you can't always tell where a link goes if they use something like tinyurl. And it is common practice to use tinyurl for signature links due to the character limit in them, so it makes things harder on people now. gonk

Luckily if you are warey things like that will not effect you. A good idea is to NOT save your password anywhere but your head. Gaia uses cookies for session ids. But since Gaia is not too quite to Web 2.0 it is still hard to break into it.
It is sad that people have to ruin such a great thing as the internet.

Only two people have attempted to scam me through PM when my account was only a few days old. Do they honestly think they could get much out of me if I did fall for it?
I've heard of rich Gaians being scammed and hacked...but c'mon, people!! gonk

They aren't exactly typically so target when they often have PMs being sent out for scamming. After all, generally if you are rich on Gaia already then you've been around enough to know better than to fall for the stupid stuff. Newbies may be targeted if anybody is targeted with these at all because they expect newbies are more likely to fall for it.

You know given the fact that people try and hack accounts all the time you would think that other people would finally wise up. It is not like back when I first joined Gaia and the world was still new to communicating with others online. It is just upsetting to know that something like this is a problem.

Nobody was here before 2003 and the interwebs was certainly not new by that time. razz There's a fairly seizable population here though of young kids, often ones who really shouldn't be here anyway according to the TOS, and younger kids are often foolishly too trusting of anything they come across that doesn't outright state malicious intentions when it comes to places they communicate with others. The stupid critters think because somebody says they are a mod it must be so and so they should SO hurry up and give that person their password because they don't want to get teh banzored! Oh noes! ;o; Or else also they may just be stupid in another way, namely not paying attention to what kinds of things are going on lately in the way of viruses and hacking and such and don't know about things like password fishing with fake log in pages and such.

True, most people are just here to mine for gold and talk with their friends for a month before they forget Gaia exists.

When I was still new to Gaia someone got all chummy with me and started begging me to let them borrow my demonic guitar. I was skeptical so they offered a katana for me to 'borrow' as well so I went with it. Then they skipped accounts and never heard from them again. But the joke's on him because the katana was worth more than the guitar a few months later.

xd Nice I love it when s**t like that happens. xp I am wary of the idea of borrowing stuff from people. Maybe if Gaia put like a forced return system in place. Where I could set an object to be borrowed for X amount of days/weeks/months, it would be one thing.
