Dia heard the flapping of his wings long before she saw the large dark shadow cast across the ground near her hooves. She'd be damned before she would let that monster anywhere near her fair skin.

Taking a sharp turn to her left, her eyes searched for shelter. Anything would do at this point, to keep Plague from reaching her. Beads of sweat covered her, and the candies in her hair continued getting tangled in with the sweaty mess. Her eyes stung from the saltiness, and her legs felt weary already from running. She would force herself to escape though, there'd be no giving up.

Another sharp turn to her left sent her barreling in the direction that Plague had made his grand entrance from. The trees would be able to prevent the stallion from attacking from up above, and perhaps she stood a better chance trying to lose him among the tall trees. Now all she had to do was make it into the forest without getting caught beforehand.

"Heading to hide now, are we?" he muttered aloud to himself as he watched the mare beneath him approach the wooded area.

The sores and scabs on his side had torn themselves open from the strain of running, and he felt his own blood seeping into the hair on his sides and legs. The pain from the newly opened inflictions only made him more irritable, but he pushed aside the thoughts of the pain and instead concentrated on the mare, and what he was going to do with her once he caught her. She'd been very bad, running from him like that. True, it was more fun chasing down and catching prey, but all the same, she'd been taught far better than this as a foal. Pity. It looked like she was in for a new lesson.

Swooping downwards, he prepared himself for a quick and rough landing, his pursuit bringing him much closer to where she was. He'd make it before she'd get to the tree's edges. In fact, he wasn't planning on allowing her to enter the forest at all.

Even at her fastest pace, Dia knew she couldn't outrun a flying predator, much less Plague himself. Darting back and forth, in hopes of deterring him from diving directly at her, slowed down her speed as well. She knew from experience, though, that going from side to side instead of in a straight path would keep Plague in the air, and not descending on her for an attack. It wasn't his style to strike prey when he wasn't completely sure that he would be able to hit the creature head on.

Taking the chance, she lifted her wings and forced them downwards, sending herself up a few feet off the ground. She knew it was more risky, to fly her way the rest of the way, rather than having her hooves firmly against the ground, but she knew she had to take that chance, else there'd be no doubt in her mind that he'd catch her with his aerial speed.

Although the chase was always fun, it irritated him that this mare, his mare, thought she could outsmart him. She knew better than to try his patience, to deny him what he wanted. After taking what meat off of her that he desired, he would beat some sense back into the foolish beast.

One eyebrow rose as he watched her lift herself up off the ground, and his own large, feathered wings gave two long strokes, and then narrowed themselves against his sides. Lowering his head in the direction he was aiming for, he dove down towards the ground, gaining speed and distance, growing ever so closer to his target. He had taught her better than this; what was she doing, trying to fly when she was at this great of a disadvantage? Perhaps she needed a reminder in why creatures shouldn't fly below the monsters chasing them.

Almost directly above her now, Plague shot out one cloven hoof, and came in direct contact with her upper back, and forced his weight down on her spine. Her wings were only strong enough to take on her own weight, and he was positive she wasn't prepared to take on his weight as well, especially by surprise.

Before she could grasp what was going on, she felt the pressure weighing down on her back, sending her to the ground. She was unable to prepare for the forced landing, and found herself tripping on her front leg, sending her quickly towards the hard ground. Fortunately, her instincts caused her to lean to one side, and her left shoulder took in the brunt of the fall, as she crashed against the rough earth beneath her. The speed she had been going at forced her fallen body to take a tumble, rolling her a few feet away from where her initial hit had happened, and she collapsed onto the ground in a final halt.

Groggily, she attempted to lift her head, her eyesight dizzy from the fall. She needed to pull herself back up, to pull herself together, so she could escape before he could get any closer. Deep inside, however, she knew her crash caused her to lose precious seconds to keep the lead in the chase, and that she would now have to face him head on, should she want to defend her beautiful self.

Having kept himself afloat in mid-air, Plague gently set himself onto the ground, and began walking towards the mare that lay only yards ahead of him. He knew he could have kept his hoof on her, pressured her back more, even to the point of snapping it, but there would have been no pleasure in killing her... not yet anyhow. There were many more ways to have fun with a creature besides killing it, and she was about to experience a few of those ways.

He stopped when his front legs were merely a few feet away, a safe distance should her horns decide to be rebellious and strike out against him. He hoped that she wouldn't be so foolish as to try a stunt like that, less she wanted them ripped from her skull quicker than she could scream.

"Stupid, stupid mare," he echoed, shaking his head as he stared down at her. "Running will get you nowhere but further on my bad side. You should have known that by now, Sweetness."

She didn't have to wait for her eyes to adjust to know he was closing in on her .The weight of the mutant sent little trembles through the ground at a small distance radius, and her aching body could sense his approach by the movement. Her nose received a blast of putrid odor, and it only took seconds for Plague's minions on four paws to catch up to their master. Seeing that their provider had already taken down his prey, they raced directly towards her and began gnawing furiously at whatever part they could reach. She sent them a warning growl, but they ignored it, and continued their raid. She could feel them entangling themselves in her mane and tail, teeth gnawing on her legs and sides, tiny claws scratching away.

Letting off a howl from the pain of the rats' attacks on top of the ache and soreness from her crash, she roughly shook her head, throwing three or four rodonts off as she did so, and attempted to raise herself up off the ground.

He said nothing as he watched his small companions flock towards the fallen kalona. They showed no fear of the creature that could no doubt end their sorry existences, but instead allowed their constant hunger to take control, to make their decisions for them. Emotions were a dangerous thing to deal with, and Plague knew the potential they could hold. That was why he strived to stay as far away from emotions as he possibly could. They brought nothing but stupidity and lowered defenses.

He watched as she let out a frustrated screech and flung rats off herself as she attempted to stand. It was only then did he step forward to intercede. His interceding, however, consisted of lifting up his dark hoof and pressing it against her cheek, forcing her downwards and sending her face once again to meet the grass and dirt.

"Try to escape, or fight me off, and I'll snap your neck," he told her coldly, his hollow eyes watching for her reaction.

He had every intention of following through with his threat, and twisted his hoof against her face, grinding her ivory cheek roughly against the dirt, to get his point across to her.

"Now..." He mocked, "What to do with such a naughty filly...."

It was just as her vision was clearing up that she felt the rough, grime-encrusted hoof of her chaser press up against her face. Before she had the opportunity or time to react, however, she found her head being slammed and held down against the ground. Her first reaction was to snarl, attempting to wriggle or kick her way free, but his clear threat killed her will and energy to do so.

As he rubbed her cheek against the dirt, she squeezed her eyes shut, silently hoping that none of the rats would have a craving to make a meal out of her eyes. Tiny little paws began to claw at her face merciless, and she felt a few sets of teeth beginning to chew on her muzzle and nose. Then, he began to taunt her, and she scowled, unable to do anything, helpless. She was far more than humiliated at this point, and furious as hell that there was nothing she could do. When she ever got the chance to retaliate, she would take it.

"How 'bout you find a new toy to play with?" she gritted through her teeth as she mentally went through the pros and cons on what would happen, should she be able to turn and bite his ankle. Pro; if she could dig her teeth in deep enough, she might give him a limp that would stay with him the rest of his life. Con; she'd be dead only seconds afterwards and would therefore never be able to take glee in his limp.

She decided not to bite him, after all.

A sharp kick of one hoof against her cheekbone was sure to shut up that smartass mouth of hers. In doing so, he relished in the cry that erupted from the strike and leaned down to nuzzle her neck, like a lover would. Yet, there was no love in his touch, and both knew it.

"But, I like the toy I already have..." he murmered, his muzzle lowering down to her side. As quick as lightening, he lowered his head, and dragged his jagged remnants of a horn across her upper side. ".... even if it happens to be a broken toy." he finished, raising his head.

Looking down on her, all he could do was scowl. He no longer held interest in taking blood or meat off of her; he was too disgusted in her disloyalty towards him to care about what his jaws and gums craved. Instead, he wanted to satisfy the craving his pride sent... to punish and correct this spoiled attitude the mare had grown to hold against him. She knew better, she had been raised better. She was to do as she was told, and never disobey.

It seemed like hours has passed before he finally stopped. She let out a pained wheeze as one swollen eye attempted to open itself to watch the mutant step back and away from where she lay. She didn't try to raise her head; the kalona mare had long since given up on trying to defend herself. Instead, she lay there, hoping with every passing second that he'd stop his relentless attack.

The kicking, the stomping, the stabs, the gnawing teeth of dozens of tiny rodents, it all had finally ceased. The rats, though dumb compared to the intelligence of a horse, knew from experience not to attack and feed when their caretaker was acting this way. They'd only become casualties in the warpath if they continued their raid while Plague continued his own.

She wanted to die, plain and simple. Just one quick stab with his jagged horn could do it. Even a kick to the head could manage it, if hit in the proper place. She just couldn't take this torment any longer... she had struggled to get away from him for so long, and only to be reunited with him under his terms, his conditions. She was sick of it all, she wanted to be her own master, do things her own way.

The pain soon became unbearable, and before she realized what was going on, dark shadows began to overtake her vision, and she struggled to stay conscious. Her eyes soon rolled to the back of her head, and she lay there limp, passed out on the grass.

Weeks had passed since their initial encounter, and Plague was quite pleased at the candy mare's change of attitude. Dia was fun to push around, and he took pleasure in every minute of it. He knew, even with her smart mouth and attitude, she'd still do whatever he requested. That's how he raised her, and that's he would continue to force her to be. It was the way it always had been, and he had no plans of changing it.

Letting out a yawn, he approached the clearing where the duo had reunited weeks earlier. It had become their rendezvous point on most days, when he felt the urge for company or something to pick at. Other days he'd go off to do things as he wished, leaving her to wait around the area, half expecting him to arrive.

Originally, she had refused to meet up with him and do his bidding, but a few of his 'lessons' convinced her that waiting on him would be one of her wisest decisions. She could try to run away, as she did before, but he always had a knack for finding her. After all, it was hard to miss a hot pink mare that trailed a strong scent of sugar wherever she went.

Giving his head a toss to send the mites and fleas for a ride, his hollow eyes scanned the area for any life forms, ignoring the ache in his jaw.

She hated him. Hated him.

One hot pink hoof squished hard against the foal flesh underneath her as she gritted her teeth. Although she enthusiastically loved the tender meat of a young creature, every now and then she craved a sugary taste and would mix in a bit of strawberry or whatever sugary fruit she could find, to add flavor to the already appeasing meal. Luckily for her, there was a nearby berry bush outside of the forest's edge, and she had taken her feast over to the side of the bushes to begin stomping the sweetness into the soft meat. Gloomily expecting the mutant at any minute, Dia finished up her berry squishing and leaned over to taste her tangy concoction.

As she began chewing away at her meal, her memory revisited scenes that had happened over the past few weeks and what she'd been forced through. Never in her life had she felt so humiliated as she had been by Plague's treatment. Worthless, inferior, foalish. She clenched her jaw in anger as the feelings began to overwhelm her once again. Her mind taunted her with one of Plague's many lectures. Her emotions were her downfall, and she knew it. Yet, as hard as she tried, she could not suppress her feelings – they drove her to being who she was.

She would find a way to escape him and his cruel ways. She had run off with the dream of living her own life and away from his authority in the beginning, and she wouldn’t stop at trying it again, when the time was right. But as long as he decided to keep her 'under his wing', her life would remain miserable, and remain as it currently was, despite their relocation.

His lips curled into a smug grin as he spotted his brightly colored beauty standing nearby against the bushes. The fresh aroma of death entered his nostrils, beckoning him closer to where she stood, and his mouth salivated with anticipation. The smell, combined with the mare's natural scent, made the meal even more appetizing, though the mare didn't smell as she usually did.

He paused, and looked her over with his dark black eyes. Something was different about her today, but he couldn't figure out what it was exactly. Her physical appearance hadn't seemed to change from the day before, but her scent seemed quite... odd. He studied everything about her, from her candies down to her striped legs, but nothing seemed to have change. Could the stupid mare have rolled around in something and had its smell clinging to her?

He snorted, figuring that was the most logical possibility. That, or it was something in the wind blowing by. Either way, it didn't really affect anything but his curiosity, and he stepped forward once again, growing closer towards the mare.

She could smell the mutant before she even heard his hooves dragging against the ground. Raising her head up from her midday snack, her pink eyes met with his cold, hollow ones, and she blinked. For a brief moment, she considered bolting in the opposite direction, but her pride kept her standing where she was. She refused to take off like a scared foal fearful for its life. This was Plague... this was the mutant who had taught her what she knew, though he wasn't too terribly older than herself to begin with.

Giving a soft snort of disgust, she lowered her head back down towards her food, and tore off a chunk and began chewing once again, as her thoughts took over. How was it that even though he abused her, taunted her, was the worst possible thing for her, that she continued to allow herself to submit to him? She had rebelled on many occasions and had been overpowered and forced back into submitting to his will, but even so, she always had the opportunity to fight back, but didn't always take it. Was she truly as dumb as Plague told her she was?

No, I'm not. She told herself, teeth grinding against the meat. She would show him one of these days. She would find a way to make him see that there was more to her than he assumed there was. And when she did, he'd regret it. Oh, how she'd make him regret it.

But until that day, she was forced to remain a servant to his command, a lackey to carry out his wishes. What scared her more than his strength, his capabilities for killing, his brutality, was the easiness it was for her to accept his command and do what she was told. That would be one of the first things she would change, when she got the chance.
