Some of the tension left the mare's body as he finally backed away. Wyrsa glared at him again. "Aye, you did," she acknowledged, "but I haven't seen much to prove that."
Damnit, she refused to be toyed with! And she refused to show him her fear. She'd stand up to him out of spunk and spite alone if necessary!

Tloc laughed, his own voice grumbling in his throat. That was a good response, he would have to admit. "If you can see it, you'll be okay... it's the things you don't see that you need to beware of." Not that he was trying to actually... be nice or anything.

Wyrsa cocked her head and considered this. He had a good point. Was the fearsome Kalona actually giving advice? Well, she certainly wasn't going to look a gift-demon-horse in the mouth!
"I'll keep that in mind," she said coolly. "And who shall I be scanning the sky for?" the mare asked. It would be nice to know his name...or the name of someone to watch out for, depending on how...helpful...the Kalona chose to be.

Tloc considered the questions... probably mis-interpreting. "Vultures, mostly. They won't wait until your dead before the start eating you."

The mare thought about that. "Never heard that before," she admitted. She was not going to push her luck with a thank-you.

"Now you have," Tloc said shortly. Finally, he looked around at their position. He knew the desert fairly well, and where all the spots are. Now that he thought about it, his kalona tummy was hungry, and it was time to tame that beast before he really did take a bite of the mare. He never had a taste for soquili blood, really.
Without saying a word, he broke off. There was an oasis around here.... one with many food groups. Tloc didn't look back to see if the mare followed. He let the light from his own fire to lead the way and avoid the traps that lingered under the sand.

Wyrsa's head jerked up, startled, as the stallion abruptly turned and headed somewhere only he knew. She snarled slightly to herself...no way was she letting him leave now! Not before she got his name!
Telling herself she was several kinds of fool, the mare gamely trotted after the Kalona, her glare boring holes in his rump.

A slight breeze picked up across the desert, and brought the mare's scent from behind him. He snorted with a slight sense of satisfaction. The wind shifted again as they got closer to the oasis.
Finally, they arrived. Tloc's hooves became louder as they struck the harder ground. He easily snatched up a palm leaf and ate it. A little later, he'd have to take up one of those small creatures he could hear scurrying around. "You can eat, if you'd like."

The Soquili was surprised when she found herself in the oasis. It was something she'd never expected to see out here in the desert. Oddly enough, the palm trees and scrub made her long for the cool, dark forest.
Hmph. That wasn't here nor there, and so she couldn't afford to waste the time to think of such things. Wyrsa sniffed some of the brush carefully before taking a bite. It wasn't that bad, all told. Probably a bit better than the scrub she'd eaten earlier.
But why was he being so...so nice?

If only she knew.... Tloc reasoning to come to the oasis were purely his own selfish need for nutrients. The kalona finished his palm large palm leaf and then turned to see the mare. Since she was outside of the light his hooves offered, she looked more like a shiny statue. The stallion smiled wryly, this one was so defenseless out here... and purely at his own mercy to whatever he decided.
"It won't bite... though, there could be something hiding in there, and then what would you do? Bash it to death with your blunt head?" Tloc choked on a laugh.

Wyrsa shook her head at the stallion. "I'd stomp on it of course," she retorted and took another mouthful of brush. She really didn't like that smile. Especially not the way the fangs seemed to catch reflections from the flames on his hooves.

Tloc's eyes lingered on her hooves in apparent disapproval. Not only was this mare wingless, but her hooves were.... smooth! "But your feet are so... round." he might as well be talking about 'coodies' with that tone in his voice. "I do not know how you wingless, hornless, and flat-hoof, type soquilis survive.... and stray wolf could...." Tloc's eyes sparkled with the fire from his hooves as he raised his head, to prove once again his point from earlier "...ravage you and you could do nothing to stop him."

Wysa sniffed in disdain. "Not every Soquili has a superiority complex," she replied and returned her attention to her meal. He didn't have to try and intimidate her...he'd already done that tonight. And did he have to point out that compared to a Kalona she was virtually defenseless? Wrysa was not a mare who liked having her nose rubbed in her shortcomings, and only the fact that this stallion was a Kalona was keeping her from lashing out at him in more ways than one.

"Hmm... and what are you going to about it?" Tloc laughed, egging the mare on, "Talk me to death and hope that one day I may find a little humbleness....." The kalona snorted and arched a brow at the normal soquili, "M'lady... I wouldn't hold my breathe. I know how much better I am."

"I'm perfectly aware that words aren't going to make much of an impression on your thick skull," she replied sharply. "I know that you need to be put in your place, and I know that I'm certainly not the one to do that."
But oh, how she wanted to be able to put him in his place! If only...ah, it was useless to wish. And it was said that the gods looked down upon those who wished to be other than they were. In other words, she was stuck and life sucked.
