Ok I'm one of those skinny cosplayers but my BEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WORLD is a little bigger and she barely even cosplay's anymore because of all this nonsence....so I feel very strongly about this!

Lemme ask a new question...

Why shouldn't a bigger person cosplay a revieling costume?

Because its 'unatractive' ne?
So does that mean that 'unatractive' people should have a limit to what they can cosplay as well? Yeah I didn't think so because alot of us aren't supermodels mmhmm! I have alot of friends who are super atracted to "bigger" people and with good reason I think!

So my point here is that just because its unatractive doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist and if a voluptious girl/boy wants to cosplay Mai or a Sailor Star or ANYTHING ELSE then he/she has just as much of a right to it as the "smaller" cosplayers!

Cosplay is a passion that should be accessable to all who are interested and there shouldn't be rules for any certain "type" of person! We're all the same.....I think we've forgotten that cosplay is based on the costume not the body inside so why don't we stop judging the cosplayer based on how cute he/she is and start basing it on the quality of the costume!

So even if you're 350lbs. and I see you at AX next year and you're cosplaying Chocolate or Tifa from Bakaretsu Hunters, if its a good costume then you'll get a high five from me!

It just depends on if you have the juevos to wear; it but we all should cuz its cosplay and it rocks!

I agree with the one above, as long as it looks good even if you're fat you can cosplay in a revealing costume :3

that is always a tuff question. Most people say fat people should only pic fat characters to cosplay as but if they havent noticed there arent many fat characters. so they dont have much to choose from so they have to lay off. But osmetimes they just pick the completely wroing costume. Like I saw one I wouldn't even think it would be flattering on a girl who had a models body. But still fat people have just as much right to cosplay as skinny people do.

Exactly. Cosplay IS a passion, and it should not be limited by other peoples beliefs!

I think that it's a lot about what they choose to cosplay.
Larger people shouldn't try to cosplay characters that have skin showing everywhere. Like Faye Valentine or something. (unless the modify the costume.) biggrin
However I think they look fantastic in cosplays that are appropriate or flattering to their figures. (Which there are lots of!)

I agree to a cartain extent... But that's only really because i dont want to see anyone's junk hanging out (fat or skinny junk is nasty) and if your butt or back is eating a costume I'd rather not see it... (once again thin or not butts shouldn't eat clothes)

I think that people are saying to cover up- or at least my reason would be- because you get less s**t from stupid people who play the "ew gross" game so people who have less jueveos than others will feel less self consious. I know that even though noone could see it and i'm only a little chunky I was totally worried about my tummy looking "blech" or my boobs showing too much in my first cosplay ever. My first 4 hours of the con I was too busy fixing my dress and checking my chest to have any fun.

I think you should have fun regardless of what other people think.
But then, I'm really kind of out there... I wore a huuge mask to classes and people in the hallways yelled at me, and I didn't care, but if you think that people making faces or being assholes or doing whatever will make you feel bad, then you should either a) modify the costume or b) choose a less revealing costume.
If it's your favorite character from an anime you've loved for all time, then go for it. If you hate the character and didn't like the anime, then don't. Just do whatever you want, and don't worry about people (because most people are judgmental self-righteous assholes anyway). n.n
If you feel comfortable in revealing costumes, then by all means! Just make sure they fit properly, because as Goth_chi said, no matter how much you weigh, nobody wants to see your pants being eaten by your a**. Cosplay is all about fun, so have some!

i can understand why so bigger girls get scared...i knew i use to be but i always find people who are either covered up or modfy the outfit. there nothing wrong with a lil change here and there i think the people who do there own take always look the best.

the thing that makes me mad is when people ahve no sdies arent human bodies lol....not all outfit will out even on the skinnest lil thing better yet a..not so skinny lil thing lol

fat people should cosplay fat characters, fat people shouldn't cosplay skinny characters, because no matter how good a seamstress is, skinny characters done by fat people always look terrible. I'm not some intolerant person who hates fat people, I'm just a person who appreciates good cosplay, and frowns at bad cosplay, or purchased cosplay at that.

I feel bad saying this, but heavy people shouldn't do skimpy costumes. It's okay for them to cosplay, but don't try to pull off Mimiru from .Hack//Sign or something like that. I'm borderline underweight and I even clean up my skimpy costumes though, so I don't like when average weight people do overly skimpy either...

Why not? There's plenty of choices out there. So as long as flattery is considered.

A lot of my friends who cosplay are fat. And I they get kudos from me for cosplaying anyway, since I rarely see fat cosplayers. I guess my wording was pretty bad. I don't think fat people should do unbelievably skimpy costumes....but at the same time I think that holds true to people of all builds. I don't care if you look like a super model, I don't need to see most of your body.

I was just at a con a couple months ago where there was this one girl wearing a tiny bikini and a moogle hat. Now, when I first saw this I was at the pool area of the hotel so it seemed in place. But then I saw her later in the lobby and thought "...That's her costume? I thought she was just wearing that because she was swimming." Apparently she was being a "sexy moogle", according to someone from the Square Enix photoshoot. Despite having a nice body, many congoers on the forum agree she should've put more clothes on.
