"Mint, what a pretty name for a little girl." Abigale had misheard him over the crowd, and with the frilly skirt, he certainly didn't look like a boy.
When she was asked about scents, Abigale nodded her head. "I'm a herbalist. Alternative medicine is my trade, actually, and using smell to heal the body plays a large role in that." She smiled warmly, though it was hidden beneath her bandages. Adjusting her glasses, the woman looked rather confident speaking of her profession. "Jasmine, camomile, lavender; those are relaxing."

Esme had spent up until now just wandering about and getting familiarized with the place. She had talked with a couple of nobles who had liked her costume, and now had a pair of commissions. She was finally starting to get back on her feet. She had done a fair amount of walking about now, and though her 'granny boots' were quite comfortable, she needed to find a seat. She found a seat, near a small stand that seemed to be selling oils. And the closer she came to the stand, the better it smelled.
She sat down in the seat she had spotted, and watched the interactions of those around her. And there were some children running about. She always felt a little better when children were present.

"I slept in," muttered Nicollo to himself. His golden hair was a mess as he replaced his feathered mask on his face. He had no time to fix himself up all nice and pretty. He didn't want to miss a thing.
He found a crowd surrounding the shop that was holding this event. "I wonder what is going on?" he wondered aloud approaching the crowd. Scents hit him from every angle. Blueberry. Cherry. And one scent that brought a smile to his face, mint. He followed his nose closer to the shop, gently picking his way through the mass. He did bump a few people here and there dispite his efforts not to.

Esme blinked and looked up at the person who had just passed her. The poor male seemed a bit mussed. She smiled and waved to him, trying to resist the urge to play mother and fix him up.
Scratch that last statement.
"Excuse me...you look a little disheveled. Would you like some help fixing yourself up?"

"Ment." He corrected her, looking up at her as she explained her profession. "I dunno....'Livia works with those three all the time and she still looks like a raging ball of angry lady-dom." He countered, twirling his hair once more.
"Do you know what kind of smells make someone angry??"
As everyone enjoyed themselves, the scent known as Dark Carnival drifted pleasantly into the air with its purple and black fumes, creating little elephants and ring masters.

"Eu de Skunk." Abigale chuckled softly at the joke, though shook her head. "I don't believe there would be a reason to try and smell something for the sake of making someone angry. Your mother might just be overwhelmed by so many different scents."
She gave a sheepish smile, bowing her head politely. "Sorry, Ment." Glancing towards the lit candle, she seemed to brighten a little. "What kind is that, anyway?"

May bade Sommer farewell, but remained at the table long after the girl had left. After awhile, it became evident that the girl had, more then likely, gotten lost on her way too, or back from the restrooms.
The journalist contemplated the idea of going and finding the girl, when something caught her interest. Her peripheral view picked up elephants, and ring masters floating in the air. When she turned to view it better, she saw they were nothing but wisps of smoke dancing and floating in the air.
The tantalizing image had May stepping forward, and before she knew it, she was drifting to the stand with the scent. The intoxicating scent reminded her of the bubble gum boy who had prompted the theft, and guilt struck a cord in her heart.
She stared at the oil for a moment, not really paying attention to anything or anyone else. She was safe. She had a mask on, and even without the mask only one brat had caught her that night. And he wasn’t there at the moment.
The thought brought a brief moment of relaxation and she allowed the tenseness to leave her body as she stared at the magical smoke dance above her.

Skie had drifted into the crowd, drawn by the presentation at the center of the room. Was this the star of the show? As she watched, she noticed one of the scents trace elephants and ring masters in the air and paused for a moment.
What...? She'd never see smoke from an oil burner actually form images. It was almost as though it were deliberately doing so. Sniffing curiously, she found the smell to be most appealing despite the dark colours and moved in closer to ask what after the interesting display.
When the people before her moved aside, she saw another scent and wondered if it was part of some sort of traveling perfume merchant's stall. Though what it was doing there she had no idea. A quick check and the refreshingly clean smell of lemon met her senses, making her smile. What an interesting pair!
Quietly, she stepped up behind another woman who had engaged who she assumed to be the display's owner in conversation. At a break in their discussion, she waved politely and stepped forward, nodding apologetically as she stepped around Abigale, "Excuse me! I hope you don't mind my intrusion but would you mind telling what this display is? I haven't seen the like before..." She smiled, bowing slightly.

Sati watched uneasily as the woman she had been talking to wandered off, ignoring her conversation and her proffered gift completely. She looked almost spellbound. Sati could hardly blame her. Something was definitely odd. There was strangeness in the air, and Sati had been around long enough to know well that it had something to do with the scent.
Sati took off her monocle and polished it vigorously on her sari, and then peered through the crowd again. Ah, the source of the scent: the purple smoke trailed thick through the crowd, like crawling cotton candy. Sati felt familiar panic rising in her throat; the smoke was idly forming pictures, elephants and circus rings, whimsical and sinister.
"Drat," said Sati, gritting her teeth. This looked like magic, and as far as Sati was concerned, magic was trouble. She hissed through her teeth and signalled one of her guards, and the bull-masked man briskly walked over and graciously took her by the arm. That was better. Sati was unsettled, but as always, she was curious. She'd stay close to the hired muscle and find out just what this good-smelling sorcery was. It did smell so pleasant...
But now she'd put some distance between the smoke and herself. Sati and her escort made their way towards the outskirts of the party, halting next to a golden-haired man and his female companion. They'd lurk here until they knew just what the creepy smoke signified.

Degas wandered away from his coverstation as the draw of food came drifting in. He wandered to the Buffet of food and looked about it curiously wondering what exactly he could sample with his limited diet.
"What was the newest diet craze again...." He muttered fiddling with his mask. "Maybe I should just stick to fruit. There's not a single popsicle in this gathering and Twinkies aren't real food. Where's a fox when you need one?"
...Meanwhile Moros and Ozma had decided that getting a room was a good idea but lacking rooms bushes out back worked.

Kier was...bored. Now by herself at the edge of the crowd, she fiddled with a paper napkin she had aquired earlier. She carefully tore the napkin into squares, intending to fold them into cranes. True, she could go mingle with other people, but in places like this she preferred watching others, not approaching them. She'd already done enough watching, observing people in all manner of dress and shape. Fleetingly, she wondered what happened to the guy she met earlier, N-what's-his-name. Shaking her head, she set the napkin-cranes in her lap, eyes out toward the crowd.

Feeling a bit giddy and high, Nicollo found a filmiar face. "Lady Kier!" he sang making his way towards her. A huge smile was plastered on his face. He waved as his moved only pausing to fix his hair. "Lady Kier! Lady Kier! It's me! Nicollo!" He now only hoped she'd remember him.

Kier jumped in surprise, spotting a familiar face as she heard her name. Her napkin paper-cranes slipped out of her lap; she quickly scooped them up, standing as he approached her. She smiled, wondering what this 'lady' stuff was about. Raising her hand in greeting, she said, "Hey, nice to see you. Finally someone I know, kinda."

"Oh my! I'm so sorry!" Nicollo panted as he reached her. He hesitated for a moment to stare at the fallen cranes in what seemed like shock. He didn't seem to worry about his azure suit as he knelt in the dust and dirt to fetch the last of the white birds. With his big, goofy grin in place, he handed them back to Kier.

Kier raised her eyebrows at the apology. "...Don't worry about it? What's there to be sorry for?" Silly. She took her crane back with a whimsical little bow, returning grin for grin. "Yanno, for a party, there isn't much to do around here."
