Crystal had long since abandoned the glass of foul smelling drink, mingling through the gathered and observing the people there. It was like watching the mating dance of some obscene flock of birds, each guilded person trying to impress the next, although no one really knew who they were speaking to. Certainly, her dear Irene was out doing the same, having already impressed half the room. That made her smile, her grey eyes softening a little. She should try to have a good time while she was here.
Smoothing her gloved hands over her ebon and snow dress, she smiled politely to the women and men alike, greeting those that spoke. It was awkward, meeting the eyes of those who could very well be Lords and Ladies; she'd realized she was falling into old habits of what was acceptable of her class, and was fully intending to break the awkward feeling for tonight. Everyone here was equal, gorgeous, and free of worries...yes, she decided she'd fancy a dance, so she'd stop thinking so much.

Kyuubi glared silently at all the snotty nobles that passed by him. Gods, he hated stuck-up people. Enough to want to possibly pound their egos into the dirt. But for now, he would refrain from doing such a thing. He stepped away from the crowd, leaning against the wall of the ballroom and evaluating everything with golden-red eyes.
This place had nothing on The Den, he wasn't even sure why Kyoko had wanted to come. He'd have to convince Nyoko to throw a party at the cafe later. That would be much cooler than this stuffed up atmosphere.

Sommer moved along the table, trying to get closer to the dance floor again. She liked watching the people as much as she liked to dance herself. But as she moved along someone was in her path.
“Uhm, excuse me...” She spoke quietly.
That is when she noticed the woman wasn’t wearing a dress, or skirt, but a very nice looking outfit with pants. Well, no one had mentioned that skirts were optional.
“Someone should have told me pants were allowed...” She smiled softly at the woman.

During his careless scanning of the room the young man spotted that dark, silky dress and the silver mask which Crystal had wore. Eyes flashing with excitement for a brief moment, he began walking across the room faster in order to follow her movements and perhaps eventually reach her. He'd surprise her with his appearance no doubt. He wondered if he should pick up a fresh rose from one of the banquets...
With his sight focused on the girl, the young man's face came in contact with someone's firm back, followed by his entire body as momentum pushed the him onto the other. Surprised, he let out a short yelp and jumped immediately backwards, adjusting his clothings with haste.
"Oh! My mistake, please excuse me..."

May moved her attention swiftly from the punk-ish girl, to the one who now asked her attention. She smiled before stepping forward, in attempt to get out of the girl’s way, when the question of her outfit had been brought up.
May looked down at herself again, and managed to frown for a split second. She knew she looked apart, but she didn’t feel awkward enough to go home and change. But now she worried she might be mistaken as a boy later on in the night. She fought the urge to twirl her hair in a girlish manner.
Snapping out of the uncertain state the new woman wrought on, May looked at her and giggled. “No one told me they weren’t so I assumed I would be fine.”

Sommer blushed a bit under her feathery mask. She hadn’t meant for her words to be insulting or belittling in any way “Oh no... I meant to say I would have worn dress pants too. Skirts are too much of a hassle for me.”
She hoped she hadn’t offended the woman. Midori’s customs didn’t seem too different from her home but one could never know. Small differences could make a very big deal. “I am sorry, I am still new to this place and I’m trying to fit in at least a little bit.”
She looked out on the ballroom. “Is the masquerade this grand every year?”

May shrugged off the woman’s words with a giggle. “I have to wear skirts daily at the office. So when I come out I’d prefer not to have to wear anything…fluttery.” She explained with a nod before turning around at the table and grabbing another cup. This time she filled both her cup and the new one with punch.
“I wouldn’t know.” She started as she turned around, offering the new cup of punch to the girl. “This is my first time here, myself.”

And when someone collided with his backside, Kyuubi bristled and turned around to chew out the person... Only to be looking at a very feminine man... Or was it actually a very flat-chested woman? He had no clue, but the person was sexy all the same... Well, he hadn't seen Kyoko yet. He might as well flirt.
"Oh, don't worry. I'm glad you ran into me, I was just looking for someone to dance with," he purred without missing a beat, giving the man a playful and flirtatious wink.

She took the punch with a grateful smile, nodding her understanding. “It’s the exact opposite for me. Working with hot coffee wearing a skirt could be.... quite unpleasant.”
“This seems to be a grand affair, giving out tickets and all that.” Sommer sipped at her cup slowly, watching more people pass, all of them smiling or laughing. Then she realized she hadn’t even introduced herself yet. “I’m sorry, I’m Sommer.”
She figured the woman would at least like to put a name to the person since everyone's faces were hidden tonight.

Crystal could hear the yelp over the dull murmur of the crowd. It wasn't anything remarkable, as she'd been hearing all sorts of things she'd rather not have, but the voice sounded...familiar. She turned her stormy gaze to where a few people were moving back, since someone had run into...
If her face wasn't hidden behind her elaborate mask, she would have hid behind her hands. Leave it to Irene to be the center of attention! She folded her gloved hands in front of her stomach, decided to simply watch while keeping an eye out for a dance partner. Crystal was starting to get anxious, and that wasn't healthy for anyone.

Irene blinked. His first instinct was to blurt out a "what is wrong with you?" A subtle trace of his earlier thought, however, stopped him from doing so. Instead he straightened himself and pushed his mask back to the ridge of his nose.
And realized that he didn't know what to say. Did this man just asked him, a male, to dance? The young man had no problem dancing with females, but dancing with a male? He wondered if that was even allowed in formal situations. What impression would this leave to the ladies? Surely his mother would think this as a disgrace, a total disaster.
Oh, but the man didn't really say he wanted to dance with HIM. He sighed mentally, relieved that the other was not as blunt. The young man chuckled playfully, and nodded, bowing slightly as to show politeness.
"Thank you for your forgiveness...sir. As for a dancing partner, I am sure there are plenty of beautiful ladies out there to match your magnificence. Should I help you to invite one of them over?"

May chuckled at the thought of working with coffee in a skirt. The only time she dealt with coffee her entire day was when it was in a thermos on her desk during those late night articles. The ones where she wouldn’t be going home that night. Oh, and did those days seem to come often.
“Sommer?” May repeated the name, testing it out on her own tongue. “Sommer. Well, pleasure to meet you Sommer.” She turned to face the woman more fully, her right hand coming out in the air, offering it for a shake.
“I, myself, am May Taurt.” She smiled pleasantly waiting for the woman to return the gesture.

Kyuubi had to hide any stray emotions. Okay, so this feminine man wasn't bi. Alright, he could live with that. But he was almost afraid that if Irene were to find a woman, he would surely be the prettier of the two... That was a sad thought.
"I would appreciate your help, kind sir. I'm afraid that I may scare them away," Kyuubi replied, giving a low chuckle and scanning the room. Oh, he wouldn't mind scaring some of the higher-end women away. He didn't need some snotty woman. He was afraid he was scaring the normal women away...

Taking the offered hand in a sake, Sommer smiled. She already liked this woman. “May, a pleasure to meet you too.”
Her smile broadened a bit, maybe she had made her first friend on Midori? She surely wouldn’t object, May seemed to be a very nice person. Though she wanted to find out more about her, if given the chance. If May had come with a partner Sommer didn’t want to monopolize her time. “Did you come on your own, or did your partner get whisked away by one of the solo ladies?”

Irene smiled faintly, but shook his head. "You are humble, sir, and I think that is a great virtue. Perhaps all you need is a little confidence in yourself." The corner of his eyes searched for Crystal in the crowd. Surely she would dance with this man. He knew she was the type of girl who could care less about outter features...otherwise she'd have already fallen for him. Perhaps he saw Crystal as a challenge.
"You see, sir, there are a lot of ladies who would prefer a good heart and a sense of protection. From what I can tell, sir, you happen to possess both. All you need to do is to approach the right kind...such as that one."
Raising his hand, the young man pointed a hand in the direction where Crystal was standing, since it was rude to point at someone with their fingertips. He hoped the girl would take the hint and come over, or perhaps he would bring him to her.
