roothands It's the idea of non-Jews consuming his music and the message and wanting to be Jewish that really bothers me. That's against Jewish law. You can't convert people, even if you're passively doing so. There is a REASON why there isn't a huge market for popular music that has a Jewish message. The thing is that usually, the non-Jews who listen to his songs don't even pay attention to the words. The non-orthodox people probably listen to the words. That is what matisyahu wants. he wants non-orthodox people to listen to his songs and come back to judaism.

I didnt used to, but when my grandpa died I heard one of his songs and it made me feel better xp

I have 2 friends who love Matisyahu, and neither of them are Jewish, and neither of them want to be Jewish because of his songs.
It has nothing to do with them not listening, or listening to closely...
No where in his songs does he saying,"BEING JEWISH IS AWESOME!" or anything like that, he simply sings about Jewish related things, that could really relate to anyone if they believed in God. Saying that he's converting people, even if it is passively, is a ridiculous argument. sweatdrop If someone actually listens to his songs and says,"HEY I WANT TO BE JEWISH." Chances are, they'll lose moral after finding out you have to bathe naked or get circumsized...at least if you want to be Orthodox...
Even then, I don't really think a rabbi would convert someone for reasons of listening to Matisyahu or "Just because".
When I started listening to his music, I hadn't made up my mind about converting, and I can't say it didn't help me just alittle, but the music was really a small small fraction of the equation. 3nodding

I like him.. I think his song "Jerusalem" sent a message to everyone about the holocaust

I think he is awesome..granted, he can be a little overboard... but I like him.

LOL... It's the bisexual flag..... I am bisexual... I know it is rare in the jewish religion, but thats just me mrgreen
